Gympie, QLD
Employment Type: Full Time (Part Time Considered)
Salary: Competitive remuneration package based on experience + ProSal Incentive, with relocation support available for the right candidate
Gympie Veterinary Services has been a trusted part of the local community for more than 50 years, delivering high-quality veterinary care across the region. As the practice has grown, so too has our commitment to investing in our people, facilities and services.
Our recently renovated hospital reflects our commitment to continuous improvement, providing a modern and progressive environment where both our team and patients can thrive. We are always looking for ways to enhance the care we provide, with a CT scanner due to be installed in the coming months as the next exciting step in our clinical journey. Combined with our branch clinics in Tin Can Bay and Murgon, you'll be joining a practice that embraces innovation, supports professional growth and continues to invest in the future of veterinary medicine.
We are fortunate to have a loyal and engaged client base who value the care we provide. Supported by modern equipment and an experienced team, we are able to diagnose and manage the vast majority of cases in house, offering excellent continuity of care for our patients.
Why Join GympieThis is a rare opportunity to join a large and supportive mixed animal practice with a team of 13 veterinarians and a highly skilled group of qualified and registered veterinary nurses. You'll be surrounded by experienced professionals who genuinely enjoy collaborating and supporting one another.
While we are a mixed practice, we have made this an opportunity for a veterinarian seeking a dedicated small animal focus, particularly in consulting and general practice.
Gympie offers an ideal balance between metropolitan and rural practice. As a regional city, we are often the first point of contact for urgent and emergency presentations. This provides valuable exposure to emergency medicine and surgery without the demands of a dedicated ECC environment. You'll gain experience managing a diverse caseload while always having the support of colleagues around you. When emergencies arrive, it's a genuine team effort, with experienced vets and nurses working together to achieve the best outcomes.
Outside of work, you'll enjoy the lifestyle benefits of the Gympie region, with beautiful countryside, affordable living, and easy access to the Sunshine Coast and the stunning beaches of Rainbow Beach and Noosa.
What We OfferWe know experienced veterinarians are looking for more than salary alone. That's why we offer benefits designed to support your career, wellbeing and lifestyle.
- Work-life balance and flexibility - We understand that everyone has different priorities. Let's discuss what flexibility looks like for you.
- Professional development and career growth - Generous CPD allowance, Vet Education membership, VSB registration covered and additional professional membership support to help you continue building confidence and advancing your clinical skills.
- National career opportunities - Be part of one of Australia's largest veterinary networks, providing access to mentorship, collaboration, leadership development and long-term career progression opportunities.

- Provide expert leadership in animal welfare, veterinary care, husbandry and experimental procedures supporting complex research programs.
- Shape capability and workforce development through consistent competency, training and development frameworks across animal facilities.
- Champion animal ethics, welfare, biorisk and microbiological security, embedding effective risk-based approaches into animal studies.
- Drive continuous improvement, standardisation and quality across facilities to strengthen regulatory compliance and research service delivery.
- Build collaborative partnerships across scientific, animal ethics, biorisk, HSE, quality and facility teams to enable successful animal studies.
- Apply your scientific and technical expertise to solve complex problems, develop new approaches and contribute to publications, reports and scientific communication.
- Tenure & work schedule: Indefinite, preferably full-time. Role is predominantly site-based
- Applications are open to Australian Citizens
- Appointment is subject to obtaining or holding an Australian Government Negative Vetting 1 security clearance and providing a national police check. Other security, medical or character requirements may also apply.

You'll work calmly and constructively across disciplines, follow detailed procedures consistently, speak up when something isn't right and adapt to a highly regulated, sometimes time critical environment.
Selection criteria:- A veterinary degree eligible for registration in Australia, or an equivalent combination of relevant qualifications and animal research experience.
- Proven experience leading technical animal teams and delivering high-quality services to diverse stakeholders.
- Strong capability in planning, budgeting and delivering scientific projects involving animals.
- A demonstrated commitment to animal welfare and ethical research, with knowledge of the Australian Code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes.
- Experience leading animal research studies involving pathogens, across laboratory and/or livestock animal models.
- A collaborative, hands on approach, with the ability to work across animal handling and husbandry through to complex technical and scientific activities.
