Westmead Hospital is a key facility of one of Australia’s largest major health and medical research precincts and is the principal referral hospital for Western Sydney Local Health District providing district level health services to Parramatta, Holroyd and The Hills Shire LGAs including tertiary and quaternary services to greater Western Sydney, greater metropolitan Sydney, rural NSW and other states. It is a principal referral centre for other metropolitan hospitals within the district including Auburn Hospital, Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospital.
Westmead Hospital is a leading centre of research, training and specialisation in all fields of Medicine and Dentistry, providing services in Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Kidney and Pancreas transplantation, Cancer Care, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Neonatal Intensive Care, Trauma, Bone Marrow Transplantation, Critical Care, Aged Care and Rehabilitation, Adult Acute Psychiatry (networked with the co-located Cumberland Hospital) as well as other specialised medical and surgical services.
The Westmead Hospital Emergency Department (ED) operates 24 hours, 7 days per week and manages all types and levels of illnesses and injuries. As one of six major trauma centres in the state, the ED also cares for people with the most severe physical injuries. Westmead Hospital ED presentation numbers are among the highest in the state, currently around 80,000 per year.
Westmead Hospital is one of Australia’s largest centres for postgraduate training to specialist levels in all fields with over 100 PhD students and other postgraduate students supervised by Westmead Hospital scientists and clinicians. Westmead is home to internationally recognised institutes of health research, the most prominent being the Westmead Millennium Institute. The Westmead Millennium Institute is one of the largest medical research institutes in Australia, conducting research into a wide range of human disorders affecting both adults and children, including infectious and immune diseases, cancer and leukaemia, liver and metabolic diseases, eye and brain related disorders and heart and respiratory disorders.
Cumberland Hospital, co- located with Westmead Hospital provides primary and secondary mental health services to the local population and tertiary acute, extended and forensic mental health services to greater western Sydney and NSW. There is also a range of community mental health residential facilities, recovery support and specialist treatment services located on the campus.
The SRMO works as part of a multi-disciplinary team which includes medical, nursing and allied health professionals.
The SRMO is directly responsible to the supervising Emergency Medicine Specialist of the day, with overall supervision by the Term Supervisor and the Emergency Department Director.
The SRMO must work effectively with other specialty teams and nursing staff in the wider hospital, to ensure optimal patient care. The Trainee must also interact professionally with clinicians outside of the hospital, including GP’s and community nurses.
What you'll be doing
WSLHD - SRMO - Emergency Medicine (Westmead)
The primary purpose of the SRMO in the Emergency Department is to provide clinical care, under appropriate supervision, to patients requiring emergency medical services in a complex clinical environment. This position will provide experience in a critical care environment and have responsibilities and opportunities for autonomous practice commensurate with the level of experience of the incumbent.
The following rotations are available to SRMO:
· Westmead Emergency
· The Children’s Hospital Westmead Emergency
· Westmead and Auburn anaesthetics
· Westmead ICU
· Other rotations may be negotiated depending on availability
Westmead ED is accredited for provisional & advance training with 16 hours/7 days emergency physician cover.
Our teaching program has multiple streams dedicated to different requirements including a weekly registrar teaching. There are also skills days throughout the year specific for provisional trainees and preparation in both the primary and fellowship exam.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- At least two years working as a Medical Officer
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment
- Ability and willingness to work at the facilities within the Network to deliver patient care. Ability and willingness to participate in a rotating roster including days, evenings, nights and weekends and preparedness to participate in an on call roster for the emergency department.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary framework
- Evidence of continued professional development and commitment to self-education
- A professional attitude and flexibility in work role

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Must have completed at least four postgraduate years training including a minimum 12 months full time Emergency Medicine experience in an Australian Public Hospital or equivalent (not as an Observer)
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment with commitment to self-education and continuous professional development.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team with an understanding of the roles of the doctor and other members of the healthcare team
- Ability and willingness to work at the facilities within the Network to deliver patient care. Ability and willingness to participate in a rotating roster including days, evenings, nights and weekends and preparedness to participate in an on call roster for the emergency department.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.

- Provide regular reporting to Regional Manager on all staff performance, service quality, operational performances and issues.
- Recruit team members with appropriate skills for the specific roles being recruited for.
- Effectively manage customer complaints or challenging situations as they arise, with early notification to the Regional Manager, and to the Head of National Programs when needed.

The Unit is based at Werribee Mercy Hospital. The unit is supervised by a Head of Unit and is made up of Geriatricians, an Advanced Trainee, BPT registrar, HMO’s and an Intern. There is a strong multidisciplinary team consisting of medical, nursing and allied health staff. In addition to ward responsibilities, you will have the opportunity to be involved in ACAS rounds as well as specialist clinics. Werribee Mercy Hospital is a teaching hospital of the University of Notre Dame.

Make a meaningful difference with us We’re looking for someone who wants to make the world a little better through small moments that leave big impacts. As a Technical Accountant, you’ll step into a broad, hands-on role where curiosity, critical thinking and fresh ideas are genuinely valued. Working closely with the Technical Accounting Manager and teams across the business, you’ll analyse complex transactions, solve challenging accounting issues, support statutory reporting and strengthen financial reporting practices across the UnitingCare Queensland Group. You’ll gain exposure to a diverse and complex group operating across health, aged care, retirement living, community and disability services, providing opportunities to work on a wide variety of accounting, reporting and strategic business matters. If you’re self-motivated, accountable and confident taking ownership without needing constant direction, this is an opportunity to make a real impact beyond the scope of a traditional financial accounting role. We are seeking someone with strong intellectual curiosity, a passion for understanding how businesses, transactions and systems work, and a genuine desire to learn. You’ll enjoy exploring the “why” behind complex issues, continuously developing your technical expertise and contributing fresh thinking to the way we solve problems and improve processes.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys asking questions, understanding how things work, and going beyond the numbers to understand the underlying business, commercial and operational drivers behind transactions and outcomes. Please note, this position is Full Time, Permanent. Flexibility is important to us, and we know it is to you, too - this role supports hybrid working by agreement. Your part in our UnitingCare team:
- Support the preparation of Group and entity general-purpose financial statements, supporting workpapers, key judgements, estimates and disclosures in line with Australian Accounting Standards.
- Prepare technical accounting analysis and position papers for routine and complex transactions, and support the development of practical accounting policies, guidance and reporting controls.
- Partner with Finance teams, business stakeholders and external auditors to resolve accounting queries, coordinate audit deliverables and improve reporting quality, balance sheet integrity and audit readiness.
- Support reviews of key balance sheet balances and work with Finance teams to investigate and resolve aged, unusual or unsupported items, improving the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.
- Provide technical accounting support for strategic initiatives such as restructures, capital developments, financing arrangements, significant contracts and system implementations, contributing to practical and commercially aligned outcomes.
What makes a difference for us?
- Satisfy the relevant probity checks required by legislation or policies. This may include: a Nationally Coordinated Police Check, Right to Work in Australia, Insolvency Check.
- Tertiary qualification in business or accounting, with CA or CPA qualification.
- Minimum five years’ experience in external audit, statutory financial reporting, technical accounting or financial accounting; Big 4 or mid-tier audit experience will be highly regarded.
- Strong working knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, including practical experience preparing statutory financial statements, accounting workpapers, and technical accounting analysis. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound professional judgement and communicate complex accounting matters clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse complex financial information, identify accounting issues and recommend practical solutions.
- Experience in not-for-profit, health, aged care, community or disability services, or retirement villages highly regarded.
