WSLHD - Trainee - Intensive Care Unit - Westmead Hospital
Westmead ICU is an accredited C24 unit by the Australian College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM). There are a range of regular training activities in the unit, including weekly didactic lectures, tutorials, case conferences, journal club, trainee education days, simulation sessions. Specific teaching and preparation activities for primary and secondary CICM exams are part of our educational program.Trainees will be routine rostered through post cardiac surgical pod of ICU. All external rotations required for CICM training, including anesthetics, medicine, rural ICU, and pediatric ICU are provided. ICU Trainees are encouraged to complete an audit / research project during their tenure. There are opportunities to participate in educational activities involving Junior Medical, Nursing and Allied Health staff, and medical students.

Westmead Hospital is a key facility of one of Australia’s largest major health and medical research precincts and is the principal referral hospital for Western Sydney Local Health District providing district level health services to Parramatta, Holroyd and The Hills Shire LGAs including tertiary and quaternary services to greater Western Sydney, greater metropolitan Sydney, rural NSW and other states. The Westmead Health Precinct currently under development is envisaged to be the largest hospital building project undertaken in Western Sydney and will transform the iconic but ageing Westmead Hospital into an innovative, contemporary, and integrated centre that will continue to deliver high quality healthcare and expand the education, health, and research capability of the area.
Westmead Hospital is a leading centre of research, training and specialisation in all fields of Medicine and Dentistry, providing services in Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Kidney and Pancreas transplantation, Cancer Care, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Neonatal Intensive Care, Trauma, Bone Marrow Transplantation, Critical Care, Aged Care and Rehabilitation, Adult Acute Psychiatry (networked with the co-located Cumberland Hospital) as well as other specialised medical and surgical services.
Intensive care unit in Westmead hospital comprises of 46 beds including 10 beds for post cardiac surgical patients. Common ICU admissions include complex medical cases such as sepsis, severe respiratory or cardiac failure, complicated bone marrow and kidney transplant, and surgical cases including trauma, neurosurgery, vascular, cardiothoracic, ENT, plastic surgery, urology, upper GI, hepatobiliary, and colorectal procedure
What you'll be doing
WSLHD - Trainee - Intensive Care Unit - Westmead Hospital
· Trainees will be allocated clinical shifts on a roster including day and night shifts.
· As a member of ICU medical team to participate in the management of critically ill patients in the ICU, or on outreach service, under the direct or indirect supervision of intensive care senior medical staff.
· Daily duties include patient assessment, documentation in patient records, preparation of discharge summaries, ordering, and reviewing investigations, performing ICU procedures such as line insertion, communicating with other specialty teams and patients’ family members.
· Trainees are expected to participate in assessing patients, formulating a management plan, managing uncomplicated airways, inserting central venous and arterial lines, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation under the supervision of a more senior member of intensive care team.
· Trainees participate in the Trauma calls, attend emergencies on the wards as a member of hospital based clinical emergency response system (CERS), and review patients referred to ICU from wards, ED, and recovery unit. Excellent communication and teamwork skills are crucial to maximize performance while on these duties.
Supervision Arrangements
The ICU trainee will be supervised by the duty ICU consultant for day to day activities. Supervisors of Training will be allocated in accordance with requirements from the College of Intensive Care Medicine.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
- Completion of three (3) years post graduate experience at commencement of position, with documented experience in ICU and/or anaesthetics.
- Clinical experience, cognitive skills, and basic technical skills appropriate for managing critically ill patients under the supervision of senior medical staff.
- Demonstrated time management and problem-solving skills in the clinical setting.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
- Evidence of continued professional development and commitment to self-education, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Demonstrated career goal to undertake training in intensive care medicine or other critical care specialities.

·Provisional fellows are expected to independently and under mostly indirect supervision of the consultant staff, be capable of assessing critically ill patients, formulating a management plan, managing airways, inserting and supervising central venous and arterial lines, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
·Provisional fellows participate and supervise more junior staff in the Trauma calls, clinical emergency response system (CERS) in the hospital wards, and review patients referred to ICU from wards, ED, and recovery unit.
·Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills are required to lead a team of more junior ICU medical officers, effectively and efficiently communicate and negotiate management plans with other hospital staff, specialty teams, and also patients and their relatives.
Under the supervision of intensive care consultants, provisional fellows, will lead a team of junior medical officers inside ICU and on outreach service. Provisional fellows will be the senior on-site ICU doctors at night shifts.
POSITION SUMMARY AND LOCAL BACKGROUND
Westmead Hospital is the principal referral hospital for western Sydney, renowned for its comprehensive, highly specialised and complex services provided to its community, statewide and nationally.
Patients come to Westmead Hospital for treatment of major trauma, bone marrow transplant, renal transplant, pancreas (islet) cell transplant, neurosurgery, interventional neuroradiology, oral healthcare, radiation oncology, cardiology interventional services, cardiothoracic surgery, advanced gastroenterology, deep brain stimulation, neonatal intensive care, and services for adult eating disorders, complex epilepsy, complex dermatology, adult cystic fibrosis, and Huntington disease.
Intensive care unit in Westmead hospital comprises of 49 beds, including 12 beds for post cardiac surgical patients. Common ICU admissions include complex medical cases such as sepsis, severe respiratory or cardiac failure, complicated bone marrow and kidney transplant, and surgical cases including trauma, neurosurgery, vascular, cardiothoracic, ENT, plastic surgery, urology, upper GI, hepatobiliary, and colorectal procedures.
All required external rotations for the purpose of training with the college of intensive care medicine (CICM) are available for this position. These include anaesthetics, medicine, paediatric ICU, rural ICU. Allocation of rotations will be made following each annual recruitment.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
- Advanced trainee of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) who have passed CICM fellowship examination.

The St Vincent's South West BPT Network may offer 1 or 2 year contracts (as required for completion of basic training) to applicants who have completed their time in an accredited BPT role. All other applicants will be offered 3 year contracts, subject to change, with final rankings from the application process and service provision requirements determining the length of training contract that will be offered. Previous or current registration with RACP in non-BPT roles does not guarantee a 2 year contract.

What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the Basic Physician Trainee (BPT) is to provide effective medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in medical practice in a complex clinical environment in inpatient and outpatient areas in the public health organisations within the Network.
Basic Physician Training roles consist of rotations through medical departments, working under an appropriate level of supervision by consultants. Rotations have different levels of responsibility and team structures. BPTs will gain increasing clinical autonomy and accountability as team leaders throughout the course of the three-year training program, building on their skills and attributes with the goal of entering an Advanced Training program.
BPTs undertaking the care of medical patients should ensure that they operate within their own level of expertise within a collaborative clinical care model and to seek consultation with the treating physician when appropriate, in the following activities:
- Clinically assess patients, incorporating consultation/history taking, examination, and formulation of a differential diagnosis and management plans
- Discuss diagnoses and management plans with patients and their families or carers
- Document the progress of patients in multiple settings
- Prescribe medications tailored to patients’ needs and conditions
- Transfer care of patients
- Choose, organise and interpret investigations
- Assess and manage acutely unwell patients
- Plan, prepare for, perform, and provide after care for important procedures
- MBBS or equivalent, current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- This role requires eligibility for or current registration as a Basic Physician Trainee with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and intent to obtain Fellowship of the RACP. What is your current RACP status?

The Team
The Child Health and Parenting Service (CHaPS) provides important health and wellbeing services to families across Tasmania with children aged 0 to 5. The service promotes the healthy development and wellbeing of children, providing growth and developmental assessments, health-focused early intervention, referrals and connections with other early childhood providers.
The CHaPS Residential Parenting Unit (lilinga) supports early intervention and support to families to navigate the adjustments and broad range of challenges that can arise during early parenting, equipping them with the confidence, knowledge and tools needed to support family wellbeing.
lilinga means Tasmanian Myrtle Beech (Nothofagus cunninghamii) in palawa kani, the language of Tasmanian Aborigines.
The Role
The lilinga Clinical Nurse Specialist ensures delivery of comprehensive care to admitted families, working alongside the multidisciplinary team. The Clinical Nurse Specialist develops, implements, and evaluates care plans in partnership with families, with a focus on early parenting challenges, infant sleep, family and parenting routines and communications, and infant/toddler mental health and wellbeing.
You will need
- Demonstrated experience and/or qualification in early parenting support, along with a strong understanding of primary healthcare principles.
- Proven ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team, and form strong partnerships with families, to provide integrated and co-ordinated care.
- Expertise in evidence-based primary healthcare interventions relevant to infant/toddler behaviours, infant sleep, infant mental health, and responsive parenting practices.

Westmead Hospital is a leading centre of research, training and specialisations in all fields of medicine and dentistry, providing services in cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, kidney and pancreas transplantation, cancer care, obstetrics and gynaecology, neonatal intensive care, trauma, bone marrow transplantation, critical care, aged care and rehabilitation, adult acute psychiatry (networked with the co-located Cumberland Hospital) as well as other highly specialised medical and surgical services.
The Westmead Hospital Emergency Department (ED) operates 24 hours, 7 days per week and manages all types and levels of illnesses and injuries. As one of six major trauma centres in the state, the ED also cares for people with the most severe physical injuries.

Critical care services within Westmead Hospital are provided by the Intensive care unit and the medical and surgical high dependency units. About the role
The Financial Analyst provides financial and commercial support across HammondCare Foundation & Innovation, Healthcare & Hospitals and strategic capital development initiatives.
The role is responsible for the financial management of the HammondCare Foundation ($3M budgeted revenue), including month-end activities, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, analysis and process improvement. The role also supports strategic financial planning activities including business case development, financial modelling, investment analysis and executive reporting.
The role is instrumental in gathering data, planning, defining scope and executing projects. The role ensures business requirements are accurately captured from the outset and consistently aligned with project objectives and desired outcomes.
This is a permanent part-time role 3 days per week (22.8 hours) based at St Leonards with hybrid opportunities.
Key Responsibilities include
Foundation Finance Support
- Own month-end financial processes for HammondCare Foundation including journals, accruals and reporting.
- Prepare monthly management reports, variance analysis and commentary.
- Support the Head of Foundation with financial planning, budgeting and forecasting.
- Provide financial insight and analysis to assist operational and strategic decision making.
- Monitor financial performance and identify risks and opportunities.
- Support grant acquittals and donor fund reporting as required.
- Drive continuous improvement in Foundation finance processes and reporting.
Budgeting, Forecasting and Analysis
- Support coordination and preparation of annual budgets in WorkDay Adaptive Planning across Health and Foundation portfolios.
- Assist with rolling forecasts in WorkDay Adaptive Planning and long-term capital planning.
- Produce financial analysis, trend reporting and scenario modelling.
- Analyse data to provide meaningful insights into performance drivers and financial outcomes.
- Simplify complex information and translate technical jargon into clear language accessible to all team members.
- Leverage data insights to diagnose issues and develop effective solutions.
- Gather, validate, and document comprehensive business requirements.
- Model business processes to identify and capitalize on opportunities for improvement.
Reporting and Performance Insights
- Prepare KPI reporting across Health, Foundation and Innovation portfolios.
- Support health activity reporting including NWAU analysis and performance monitoring.
- Assist with ad hoc financial analysis and strategic projects.
- Support reporting requirements for key funding arrangements and strategic initiatives.
Stakeholder Management
- Develop strong working relationships with the Head of Foundation, capital team, business leaders and finance stakeholders.
- Act as a trusted financial adviser providing timely and accurate information.
- Present financial information in a clear and meaningful manner to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
About You

The Group Billing and Receivables function is a centralised Support Service that undertakes billing and receivable activities across Mercy Health and comprises multiple teams that support the Health Service and Health Ageing business streams.
Reporting to the Billing & Receivables Manager, Health Services, the Collection Officer is responsible for timely collection of outstanding debtors across multiple systems and sites in accordance with Australian healthcare funding models. About the opportunity
This is a rare executive leadership opportunity to lead the opening of one of Victoria’s most significant Emergency Department expansion projects.
Werribee Mercy Hospital is preparing to open a landmark Emergency Department expansion that will double the department's capacity, increase treatment spaces from 33 to 67, and enable the hospital to care for an additional 25,000 patients each year.
Reporting to the Executive Director – Werribee Mercy Hospital, the Executive Director – WMH Emergency Department Expansion will hold single-point executive accountability for the readiness, safe opening and early operation of the expanded Emergency Department.
This is not a project delivery role. Dedicated workstream leads and a Program Director are responsible for delivery across workforce, infrastructure, commissioning, model of care, digital systems, industrial relations and change management. As Executive Director, you will provide strategic direction, executive oversight and decision-making, ensuring all readiness standards are achieved, and the expanded Emergency Department opens safely and successfully.
Working closely with Mercy Health executives, senior medical and nursing leaders, government stakeholders and system partners, you will drive alignment across the organisation and provide confidence that the expanded service is operationally, clinically and culturally prepared to meet the needs of one of Australia’s fastest growing communities.
This role will:
- Provide executive leadership and accountability for Emergency Department readiness, opening and transition to business-as-usual operations
- Lead executive governance, assurance and reporting to the WMH Executive, Project Control Group and Board Committees
- Define and oversee operational readiness standards and determine whether readiness requirements have been achieved
- Lead the Go / No-Go decision-making framework and provide recommendations regarding operational commencement
- Drive executive engagement with senior clinical leaders across nursing, medical and allied health services
- Provide leadership through a significant workforce growth and organisational change program
- Lead executive relationships with Ambulance Victoria, Department of Health, VHBA and other health service partners
- Ensure patient safety, quality, operational performance and workforce readiness remain central throughout commissioning and opening
- Oversee hyper care and successful transition of the expanded service into ongoing operational leadership

About the role
The Financial Controller (FC) reports to the Deputy CFO and manages 3 direct reports and a team of 12.
The role will have oversight of group level financial accounting, reporting and internal controls and be responsible for corporate level financial accounting. The FC and will work with finance teams to ensure accuracy and integrity in the financial accounts and be responsible for external and internal audit, preparation of statutory accounts, regulatory and FBT compliance and the development of internal controls and policies and procedures.
This is a permanent role based in St Leonards with hybrid opportunities.
Key Responsibilities include
- Month end accounts, including reviewing results, conducting variance analysis and working with business partners to understand drivers or corrections
- Preparation of consolidated statutory financial statements
- Identify, raise and provide insights and recommendations for improvement on financial accounting issues, risks and internal controls based on interpretation of accounting standards, best practice and other changes to reporting frameworks
- Compliance with FBT regulations and lodgment of returns
- Compliance with all relevant statutory obligations
- Maintaining and updating corporate policies and ensuring compliance.
- Maintain and improve financial processes, procedures, and internal controls
- Responsible for ensuring the monthly completion of balance sheet reconciliations by the Finance Team in compliance with agreed format to a high quality in readiness for Management review and Auditors.
- Oversee compliance with accounting standards and other regulatory requirements including coordination and liaising with the internal / external auditors
- Responsible for Aged Care Financial Reporting and Quarterly Financial Reporting processes and submission
- Responsible for the Financial Control team’s month end reconciliations (including fixed assets, leases, banking, payroll, accounts payable and credit cards, etc.)
- Preparation of budgets and forecast for accounts managed by Financial Control team
- Identify and drive efficiencies within the Financial Control Team
- Various project work as directed by the Deputy CFO
- Provide leadership and development of Financial Control team
About You

Your opportunity
As a Registered Nurse at Winston Hills, you will provide safe, compassionate clinical care for residents with diverse and complex needs. You will work closely with residents, families and the multidisciplinary team to identify changes early and support each resident’s quality of life
With empathy and resilience, you will:
- Assess residents and develop, implement and review individual care plans
- Administer medications and maintain accurate clinical documentation
- Recognise and escalate resident deterioration, incidents and near misses
- Apply infection prevention and control practices, including outbreak precautions
- Support care team members to deliver safe, person-centred care
What you’ll bring

What’s required:
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA
- Bachelor of Nursing or an equivalent recognised qualification
- NDIS Worker Screening Check clearance
- Sound knowledge of nursing principles, safe resident care and clinical escalation
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
What’s preferred:
- Current first aid certification
- Availability to work morning and night shifts.
Clinical knowledge
You understand how to recognise and respond to changes in a resident’s condition, including reduced oral intake, dehydration, weight loss, confusion or delirium, falls risk, reduced mobility, skin concerns and pressure injury risk.
You also understand the importance of monitoring and preventing issues included in the National Aged Care Mandatory Quality Indicator Program, such as falls, pressure injuries, unplanned weight loss, medication-related harm, infections, restrictive practices and changes in resident wellbeing.
Experience and development
Aged care or other relevant clinical experience is valued but not essential. We welcome nurses who bring a fresh perspective, a willingness to learn and a positive approach. You will be supported to build your knowledge and confidence within residential aged care.
Casual availability
For casual roles, flexibility is important. You should be available across a range of shifts and willing to assist at short notice occasionally when unexpected staffing needs arise. This casual position requires morning and night shift availability.

Your Role as Administration and Intake Officer
As an Administration Coordinator, you’ll support The Way Back and Suicide Prevention Services by keeping operations running smoothly, managing referrals, conducting intake screenings, and acting as the first point of contact to help deliver timely, high-quality care. Key accountabilities include:
- Maintain program compliance, audits, and accreditation
- Keep credentialing, registrations, insurance, and MOUs current
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders
- Prepare weekly invoices in TechOne
- Provide reception and frontline admin support
- Process referrals and conduct intake and follow-ups
- Coordinate staff induction and orientation
- Maintain IT services
- Reconcile WMQ credit cards
- Assist with events and meetings
What We’re Looking For
- NDIS Worker Screening Clearance and Orientation completed
- Relevant qualification and/or experience in admin or community services
- Strong admin and IT systems skills (Office 365, TechOne, databases)
- High-level interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience supporting people in emotional distress
- Strong problem-solving and analytical ability
- Excellent organisation and time management skills
- Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain)
A Valuable Addition, Yet Not a Must-Have!
- Tertiary level qualifications in social work, mental health and/or other relevant disciplines.
Essential Requirements
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination status (or as required by legislation and WMQ policy)
- Relevant probity checks required by legislation and WMQ Limited policy.
- Current Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel for work
