If you are a confident and clinically experienced Registered Nurse with strong assessment skills, sound clinical judgement and a passion for cardiac care, we want to hear from you.
Make your next career move and join our dedicated Cath Lab team at St John of God Bendigo Hospital.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, patient-centred nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures.
- Complete comprehensive pre-procedure assessments, including clinical history, medication review, observations and relevant risk assessments.
- Provide safe and effective pre-, intra- and post-procedural nursing care within the Cath Lab environment.
- Monitor patients closely throughout procedures, recognising and responding promptly to changes in clinical condition.
- Assist with the preparation and safe positioning of patients for cardiac procedures and ensure all required equipment and clinical resources are available.
- Administer medications and procedural therapies safely and in accordance with relevant policies, including sedation and other medications as required within scope of practice.
- Monitor patients following procedures, including assessment of vital signs, pain, bleeding, vascular access sites and potential complications.
- Recognise and appropriately escalate clinical deterioration or procedural complications, working collaboratively with medical and senior nursing staff.
- Work closely with cardiologists, cardiac technicians, anaesthetic staff and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and efficient patient care.
- Provide education, reassurance and support to patients and their families throughout the procedural journey.
- Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive clinical documentation and provide clear clinical handover.
- Contribute to safe discharge planning, including patient education regarding post-procedure care, medications, wound/access-site management and follow-up requirements.
- Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control, medication safety and clinical governance.
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture and an exceptional patient experience.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will ideally have at least 5 years of post-registration nursing experience, with previous experience in Cath Lab, cardiac, coronary care, perioperative or another procedural setting highly regarded.
You will have well-developed clinical assessment and critical thinking skills, with the ability to confidently manage patients in a fast-paced and technically specialised environment. You will demonstrate sound clinical judgement, strong prioritisation and effective communication skills, together with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
You will also demonstrate:
- Strong clinical assessment, monitoring and escalation skills.
- Ideally, 5+ years' nursing experience, with relevant cardiac/procedural experience highly regarded.
- Experience caring for patients undergoing invasive procedures is highly desirable.
- Sound understanding of patient safety, infection prevention and medication management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a calm and reassuring approach to patient care.
- The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- A commitment to clinical excellence, continuous learning and delivering a positive patient experience.
You will hold current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse, along with recent clinical experience in an acute care, cardiac, procedural or relevant healthcare environment. Previous Cath Lab or cardiac nursing experience will be highly regarded; however, we are also interested in Registered Nurses with strong acute clinical skills who are looking to develop their career within the Cath Lab environment.
