Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for site management oversight, clinical monitoring and central monitoring deliverables with a focus on patient safety, protocol/GCP/regulatory compliance and data integrity. Oversees site interactions post activation through site closeout. This may include patient recruitment, investigator payments or other related activities. May be responsible for identification of critical data and process, protocol execution risks and risk mitigations related to completion of the Risk Assessment and Categorization Tool (RACT).
- Reviews the study scope of work, budget and protocol content and ensures the clinical project team (CRAs/CeMs) is aware of the contractual obligations and parameters. Uses prior clinical experience, operational data, metrics and reports to identify risks to clinical trial management deliverables. Escalates to the project manager any risks to clinical trial management deliverables (timeline, quality and budget) and any activities and requests which are out of contracted scope.
- Employs strategic thinking and problem-solving skills to propose and implement risk mitigations. Participates and presents in key meetings such as Kick Off Meeting.
- Serves as an escalation point for communications with investigator site staff and may be required to interact on the phone or in person with principal investigators or other site staff members. This may include accompanying CRA team members to sites for observation or conflict resolution.
- Collaborates with other functional leaders such as Study Start Up, Patient Recruitment and Data Management to coordinate delivery handoffs and meet expected study milestones such as site activation targets, enrollment targets and database lock timelines. Reviews and provides feedback on other functional plans (e.g. Data Management Plan, Communication Plan) as they relate to the clinical trial management activities.
- Responsible for development and ongoing maintenance of clinical study tools and templates, including the Clinical Monitoring Plan. Ensures CTMS, dashboards and other systems are set up and available for use by the clinical team, including overseeing user acceptance testing (UAT) as needed. Ensures access and audit trail reviews are conducted as required.
- Coordinates initial and ongoing training to the study team regarding protocol specificities, Case Report Form (CRF) completion, dashboards, Sponsor Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), clinical plans and guidelines, data plans and timelines for the study.
- Oversees resourcing allocations for CRAs and Central Monitors, site assignments and study team members' conduct, and identifies risks to delivery or quality. Ensures quality of the clinical monitoring, central monitoring and site management deliverables within a project and maintain proper visibility of its progress by the use of approved systems and / or tracking tools.
- Reviews the project oversight dashboards and other clinical trial systems (e.g. Clinical Trial Management System (CTMS), Electronic Data Capture (EDC), eDiary, Electronic Patient Reported Outcomes (ePROs), Trial Master File (TMF), IVRS/IWRS, Central Monitoring dashboards), to oversee site and patient activities, study team conduct and to ensure the data has been updated to reflect timely execution of all operational aspects (required visits/calls, duration, and frequency) according to plan.
- Understands the monitoring strategy required for the study and, where required, participates in the development of the study risk assessment plan. Is accountable for their assigned clinical team members' understanding, ongoing compliance and delivery according to the stated monitoring strategy, CMP/SMP, and risk plans.
- Reviews the content and quality of site and central monitoring documentation (site monitoring calls, site visit reports, site letters, central monitoring reports and pertinent correspondence), to ensure they represent site management activities and conduct and that they appropriately convey any risks to protocol/GCP compliance, trial conduct, patient safety or data integrity. Document requested revisions and approvals in CTMS. Ensures these deliverables are provided according to company and/or sponsor specifications, including delivery deadlines.
- Interacts with the client and other functional departments related to clinical monitoring, central monitoring and site management activities and deliverables. Provides status updates on the clinical deliverables and risks to clients, project management and leadership as per departmental or study agreements. Provides solutions for obstacles in protocol execution and site management.
- Demonstrates understanding of other functions' roles in achieving compliance and delivery according to protocol, SOPs, ICH GCP and country regulations This may include data management, study start up, patient recruitment, medical monitoring, pharmacovigilance and Quality Assurance (QA). Supports Inspection Readiness for clinical trial management scope.
- Oversees CRAs and Central Monitors assigned to the study and routinely assesses study-specific process and training compliance, CMP compliance, and identifies emerging risks. Develop and support execution of corrective action plans at site and study level. Supports and completes activities to achieve data cut and lock deadlines.
- Provides feedback to line managers on staff performance including strengths as well as areas for development.
- May be assigned to larger, more complex trials or may coordinate clinical activities for a team of CTMs across a portfolio of projects
- May coach and mentor CTMs regarding functional clinical delivery, evaluation of project risks, and action implementation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or RN in a related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Demonstrated ability to lead and align teams in the achievement of project milestones
- Demonstrated capability of working in an international environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in site management and monitoring (clinical or central)
- Preferred experience with risk-based monitoring

Position Summary The Research Manager - Cancer Surgery is a senior member of the Clinical Research Unit (CRU), responsible for providing strategic and operational oversight of the Cancer Surgery (Surgery and Anaesthetics, Perioperative Medicine & Pain Medicine) research portfolio. The Director, Clinical-Translational Science will provide scientific leadership across AdvanCell's biobanking and clinical translational research activities, supporting the delivery of translational research aligned with clinical development objectives.
The role will provide scientific oversight and technical support for sample processing, storage, data management and analysis, ensuring all activities are conducted to the appropriate quality, safety and regulatory standards. The role will lead and coordinate translational research initiatives using clinical samples and data to identify and develop novel biomarkers and research, working collaboratively with AdvanCell's cross-functional teams and external partners.
It will also support the development and expansion of in-house research capabilities, scientific interpretation and communication, and the translation of research findings into insights that inform clinical development and research decision-making.
Key Responsibilities and Duties Biobanking and Research Operations
- Provide oversight of patient-derived biological sample collection, processing, storage, and utilisation, ensuring processes are timely, accurate and appropriately documented.
- Manage, train and mentor biobank technical staff, fostering a high-performance culture and supporting ongoing professional development.
- Develop, optimise and maintain sample processing protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in collaboration with relevant cross-functional teams.
- Ensure sample processing activities are performed consistently, accurately and with full traceability.
- Oversee biobank data capture and integrity, including maintenance of relevant databases and records.
- Ensure biobank operations, infrastructure and resources are appropriately planned to support current and future clinical studies and pipeline expansion.
Note: Some samples require immediate processing upon receipt at TRI, which may occasionally require work outside standard hours.
Clinical Translational Research
- Design, lead and coordinate innovative translational research strategy and programs in collaboration with AdvanCell's clinical and cross-functional teams and external partners, focused on the discovery and development of novel biomarkers and other approaches to advance clinical research.
- Apply robust scientific and operational approaches to ensure translational research activities align with AdvanCell's clinical development and corporate reseach objectives.
- Identify, evaluate and establish in-house research capabilities where feasible, including Multiplex ELISA, immune cell phenotyping, cfDNA/cfRNA analysis, PBMC-based sequencing and proteomics workflows.
- Contribute to experimental design, bioinformatics analyses and biological interpretation of multi-omics and other translational datasets.
- Translate translational research findings into scientific insights that inform clinical development and research decision-making.
- Identify opportunities to expand research activities through external collaborations and funding opportunities.
Scientific Leadership and Collaboration
- Provide scientific leadership, mentorship and technical guidance to research staff and scientific collaborators.
- Contribute scientific expertise to cross-functional project discussions, supporting research planning, project progression and decision-making.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal teams, external research partners and other relevant stakeholders.
- Prepare and communicate scientific data and project updates through internal presentations, reports, publications and presentations at national and international conferences.
Data, Systems and Quality Oversight
- Ensure the integrity, quality and traceability of biobanking and translational research data.
- Oversee data workflows and systems to support efficient analysis, appropriate data storage and regulatory compliance.
- Maintain robust documentation and data management practices across biobanking and translational research activities.
- Promote and uphold AdvanCell's Quality Management System (QMS) and ensure quality and compliance across research and laboratory operations.
Other Responsibilities Laboratory Operations and Infrastructure
- Ensure the biobank team and infrastructure are equipped to meet current and future strategic demands, including new clinical studies or pipeline expansion.
- Oversee the maintenance, calibration and operational readiness of laboratory equipment and infrastructure.
- Ensure appropriate escalation and coordination of equipment servicing and repairs to minimise disruption to critical workflows.
- Provide oversight of inventory management processes, ensuring continuity of supplies and efficient resource utilisation.
Continuous Improvement and Innovation
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and methodologies in biobanking, biomarker research and translational science.
- Identify opportunities to improve research workflows, laboratory capabilities, data processes and scientific output.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies and methodologies where they provide value to AdvanCell's research and clinical development programs.
Compliance, Governance and Documentation
- Ensure all laboratory and research activities comply with applicable institutional, ethical, radiation safety, workplace health and safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and accurate records across relevant research and laboratory activities.
- Ensure appropriate adherence to approved protocols, SOPs and quality systems.
- Promote a culture of compliance, quality and continuous improvement across research activities.
- Undertake other duties and responsibilities as directed by relevant management.
Essential Skills, Qualifications, Industry and Educational Requirements
- PhD in cancer biology, immunology, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and training.
- Background in immunology and/or clinical biomarker research, ideally within oncology or a related field.
- Demonstrated wet-lab expertise in human biospecimen handling, including processing and analysis of blood and urine samples (e.g., circulating nucleic acid extraction, protein quantification, QC, ELISA, flow cytometry).
- Appropriate immunisation status commensurate with processing human biobanking samples.
- Demonstrated ability to design, lead, and deliver innovative clinical translational research projects and manage multidisciplinary teams.
- Proven experience in liquid biopsy biomarker development.
- Proven experience working effectively within multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders.
- Strong organisational, prioritisation, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- High level of attention to detail, ensuring accuracy, reproducibility, and rigorous documentation of experimental work.

About the role:Reporting to the Nursing Director, as Nurse Unit Manager you will lead the scrub/scout nursing team at Flinders Medical Centre, overseeing clinical practice, rostering, and quality improvement across a high acuity perioperative environment.
Duties for the role will include:
- Ensure that service provision and the activities of the Division / Unit / Ward / Service are person and family centred and professionally and effectively conducted by contributing to the development of an integrated team approach and culture which is highly responsive to the needs of our consumers,
