The Postdoctoral Fellow will be a member of the School of Medicine and Psychology and will report to Professor Tegan Cruwys. The Postdoctoral Fellow will provide research support for the ACT Wellbeing Framework Project, a collaboration agreement between ANU and the ACT Government addressing wellbeing in the ACT. This program of research is broadly focused on enabling evidence-based policy decision-making in the ACT, particularly to inform new solutions to "wicked" problems in health and education. Projects focus on (1) the effect of school-based risk factors on children's wellbeing and belonging, and (2) the effect of early life disadvantage on educational outcomes. This role will have a particular focus on leading statistical analysis of large population linked data.

The Postdoctoral Fellow is expected to contribute towards the research effort of the institution and to develop their research expertise through the pursuit of defined projects relevant to this research partnership. While this is a research focused role, the Postdoctoral Fellow is expected to undertake work in all three areas of academic activity: research, education and service (including outreach). The allocation of time to each area will be discussed with the position supervisor annually and be reflective of the conditions of the external funding, the appointees research agenda, school and interdisciplinary teaching requirements and leadership opportunities within the School environment.

• Undertake independent research in the area of disadvantage and wellbeing with a view to publishing original and innovative results in refereed journals, present research at academic seminars and at national and international conferences, and collaborate with other researchers at a national level.
• Collaborate with senior staff to actively seek and secure external funding, assist to prepare and submit research proposals to external funding bodies as appropriate.
• Contribute to the teaching activities of the School at the undergraduate and graduate levels. This includes, but is not limited to, the preparation and delivery of lectures and tutorials, the preparation of online material, marking and assessment, consultations, and with students or acting as subject coordinators.
• Supervise students working on individual or group projects at undergraduate, honours, graduate-coursework levels. Assist with supervision of research students.
• Assist to supervise research support staff in your research area.
• Actively contribute to all aspects of the operation of the School.
• Assist in outreach activities including to prospective students, research institutes, industry, government, the media and the general public.
• Maintain high academic standards in all education, research and administration endeavours.
• Take responsibility for their own workplace health and safety and not wilfully place at risk the health and safety of another person in the workplace.

The filling of this position is intended to constitute a special measure and is aimed at increasing employment opportunities for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons in line with the strategies in the ANU Enterprise Agreement.

This newly established role will provide leadership for the School's Indigenous community engagement, strengthening relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The role will support the Indigenous Governance Group and ensure community perspectives inform medical education, research and outreach.

We are seeking an experienced Indigenous health or educational professional with expertise in Indigenous health education, community engagement and strong stakeholder relationships.

The School of Medicine and Psychology (SMP) was established in 2023 to bring together expertise from Medicine and Psychology to develop a unique educational and research environment. The focus is to produce psychologists, researchers, and medical graduates who practice compassion, conscience and professional excellence, and with a knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and culture. The school partners with a number of healthcare organisations to deliver teaching and training including but not limited to ACT Health, community practices throughout the ACT and Southwestern NSW. The school is currently undertaking a major investment in its Indigenous Health Team and Program, to improve Indigenous Student recruitment and retention, ensure Cultural safety for students and staff in the program, enhance integration of Indigenous health into the medical curriculum and to grow and deepen community relationships.
