The role provides practical policy, planning and project support to develop, coordinate, deliver and improve statewide population health initiatives.This includes but is not limited to policy development, project management, program delivery, stakeholder management, monitoring, evaluation, reporting, operational coordination and advice to government.

The Team

The Public Health - Improvement (Strategy and Policy) team within Population Health is responsible for leading and supporting the delivery of major whole-of-government commitments in preventive and population health. This includes Tasmania's state 20-year preventive health strategy, state tobacco action plan, and relevant actions under the Long-Term Plan for Healthcare in Tasmania 2040.

The Role

The role provides statewide lead project management for allocated streams of work within the team's broader program, with a particular focus on the state's 20-year preventive health strategy. The role supports the planning, coordination, delivery, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of statewide population health priorities, and provides team management and guidance across policy, planning, project and program delivery activities.

In this role, you will,

• Lead policy and strategic planning activities, including drafting, implementing and reviewing statewide population health policies, strategies, plans and legislative or regulatory initiatives.
• Apply contemporary project and program management approaches to lead the planning, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of population health initiatives, projects and government commitments across the team's program of work.
• Lead the gathering, analysis and application of evidence, data and relevant contextual information to support evidence-informed population health policy, planning, program design and decision-making.

You will need

• Demonstrated experience and expertise in project management skills, including the ability to lead and deliver projects or initiatives within agreed priorities, timelines, resources, governance arrangements and reporting requirements.
• Demonstrated experience and expertise in policy and strategic planning skills, including supporting the development, implementation and review of policies, legislation, strategies and plans in a government, population health or related setting.
• Demonstrated high level skills in gathering, analysing and interpreting evidence, data and contextual information to support policy advice, planning, program design, implementation and decision-making.

The Team

The Medical Team operates under the powers delegated by the Director of Public Health under the Tasmanian Public Health Act 1997.

The primary purpose of the Medical Team is to provide public health medical leadership and expertise to support Public Health - Protection and Public Health - Improvement. These public health medical functions support risk management, prioritisation, decision-making and responses to public health issues to deliver evidence-based public health outcomes.

The Medical Team consists of Specialist Medical Advisors, Medical Officers and Public Health Medicine Trainees.

The Role

The Public Health Medicine Fellowship Trainee is a medical practitioner, in accordance with Agency strategic directions, policies and service specifications, has the primary objectives to:

• Study and acquire public health medicine competencies and assessments at a level to satisfy the training requirements of the Public Health Medicine Advanced Training program of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM), Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).
• Support the DPH to discharge statutory duties and exercise statutory powers under the Public Health Act 1997, Radiation Protection Act 2005, Poisons Act 1971, Fluoridation Act 1968, Food Act 2003, and other relevant public health legislation.

Salary

$132,460 to $139,392 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
