Canberra Hospital ICU, with annual admission rate of 2500 to 2800 patients, holds unlimited accreditation with the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) of Australia and New Zealand for training in intensive care medicine and has advanced trainees providing after hours cover. The unit meets all College requirements for training in Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Trauma. The unit has a strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate education and clinical research offering excellent opportunities for clinicians to engage in high quality academic activities.
The TYF position(s) at Canberra Hospital ICU aim to fulfil the training requirements of CICM's final 12 months of its intensive care training program (also known as the Transition Year). It is a transitional role between that of a phase 2 trainee to a junior specialist, with flexibility and graded responsibility to allow increasing clinical autonomy and responsibilities including directing patient management, supervising, and managing the multidisciplinary clinical team, collaborating with other multi specialty clinicians whilst being supervised by an immediately available intensivist.
The position will have a dedicated rostered protective time to pursue and demonstrate interest in the following fields: critical care ultrasound and echocardiography, research, medical administration.
Note: This is a temporary position available from February 2027 for a period of 12 months.
