Transform lives, every single day
Do you want a career that means more? At Anglicare, we bring the strength, the support and the strategy to make it happen.
We're a well-respected not-for-profit that's been serving society's most vulnerable for over 170 years. Each year, we achieve life-changing outcomes for thousands of people who rely on our person-centred support. And now, we're extending our reach and impact even further.
As our Community & Justice Chaplain – Dubbo, you'll have the opportunity to share the hope of Jesus and provide compassionate pastoral care to people experiencing disadvantage, isolation, incarceration and significant life challenges.
Whether you're supporting someone through a personal crisis, walking alongside a person in custody or building meaningful connections within the community, your ministry will be grounded in the belief that every person deserves dignity, compassion and the opportunity for hope.
Be welcomed into a compassionate, respectful and purpose-driven Christian community where we don't just talk about values – we live them.
Your opportunity
We are seeking a compassionate, resilient and gospel-centred Chaplain to provide pastoral care and spiritual support across correctional and community settings in Dubbo.
This opportunity offers two options:
- Combined Community & Justice Chaplaincy: 60% Community Chaplaincy and 40% Justice Chaplaincy, providing ministry across both community and correctional settings.
- Justice Chaplaincy Only: An opportunity for candidates who wish to focus exclusively on providing pastoral care and spiritual support within the correctional environment.
Please note: Community Chaplaincy is only available as part of the combined position. Applicants interested in undertaking Community Chaplaincy must also be willing and able to fulfil the Justice Chaplaincy component.
Working collaboratively with local Anglican churches, Anglicare services, correctional stakeholders and community organisations, you'll build trusted relationships, provide practical and spiritual support, and create opportunities for people to explore and grow in the Christian faith.
Community Chaplaincy – 60% of the combined role
You'll build meaningful relationships with individuals and families experiencing disadvantage, social isolation and complex life circumstances within the Dubbo community.
Working alongside local Anglican churches and community partners, you'll provide pastoral care, strengthen community connections and help people access practical assistance and ongoing support.
You'll create opportunities for people who may be disconnected from traditional church communities to experience belonging, friendship and the hope of the Christian gospel.
Justice Chaplaincy – 40% of the combined role, or a standalone opportunity
You'll provide Christ-centred pastoral care and spiritual support to people in custody within the Dubbo correctional environment.
Through individual pastoral conversations, crisis support, chapel services, Bible teaching and discipleship, you'll support individuals navigating challenging circumstances and significant life transitions.
You'll offer a compassionate, non-judgemental presence while encouraging spiritual growth, personal reflection and positive life choices.
For applicants interested in Justice Chaplaincy only, this will be the primary focus of the position.
With integrity and compassion, you will:
- Provide Christ-centred pastoral care, spiritual guidance and crisis support to people experiencing disadvantage, isolation, incarceration and complex personal circumstances.
- Facilitate individual pastoral conversations, chapel services, Bible teaching and opportunities for discipleship within the correctional environment.
- For the combined position, build relationships across the Dubbo community, supporting community engagement, outreach and connection with local Anglican churches.
- Develop collaborative relationships with correctional stakeholders, Anglicare services, local churches and community organisations to strengthen pastoral support and referral pathways.
- Maintain professional boundaries, accurate records and safe ministry practices while complying with relevant organisational, correctional and safeguarding requirements.
What you'll bring
You're a mature, relational and resilient Christian with a genuine heart for people experiencing disadvantage and complex life circumstances.
Your ministry is grounded in a strong personal faith, sound biblical understanding and a desire to share the hope of Jesus through both words and actions.
You understand the importance of meeting people where they are, listening without judgement and providing compassionate pastoral care that respects each person's dignity and circumstances.
You'll bring the confidence to engage with people from diverse backgrounds, including those experiencing incarceration, homelessness, financial hardship, social isolation or significant personal challenges.
You'll also demonstrate the emotional maturity, sound judgement and professional boundaries required to minister effectively within structured correctional environments and, for the combined position, community settings.
What's required
- A strong, mature and active Christian faith, with a commitment to gospel-centred, Bible-based ministry and ongoing participation in a local evangelical church.
- Relevant theological qualifications or studies, together with demonstrated pastoral ministry experience or appropriate pastoral care training.
- Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate pastoral care and build trusted relationships with people experiencing disadvantage, crisis or complex circumstances.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, emotional resilience and the ability to respond calmly and appropriately in challenging situations.
- Ability to work collaboratively with churches, community services and correctional stakeholders while maintaining professional boundaries and adhering to safety and safeguarding requirements.
The successful candidate will need to satisfy relevant Anglican ministry licensing or appointment requirements, correctional security clearances and applicable Anglicare pre-employment checks.
What's preferred
- Experience in justice chaplaincy, prison ministry, community chaplaincy or outreach to marginalised communities.
- Experience providing crisis pastoral care, Bible teaching, discipleship and evangelistic ministry.
- Understanding of the challenges experienced by people affected by incarceration, disadvantage, social isolation and family disruption.
- Experience working alongside Anglican churches and developing community-based ministry partnerships.
- Knowledge of the Dubbo community, regional NSW service networks and local Christian ministry opportunities.
You'll also share our organisational values of integrity, justice, compassion and excellence, embedding them in everything you do.
Why Anglicare?
We provide meaningful opportunities and choice, both for the individuals and communities we support and the dedicated people here who make it happen.
At Anglicare, you'll get the security, stability and opportunities that come with a strong, well-established organisation that's ready for the future. You'll belong to a community of kind, humble and respectful people who share a commitment to serving others.
You'll also be supported to gain new knowledge, deepen your experience and expertise, and shape a rewarding career in Christian ministry.
On top of that, here are just some of the tangible benefits you may enjoy in a career with us:
- Flexible work options, where available, to help balance work and life.

- Ongoing professional development and training to strengthen your ministry practice.
- Exclusive discounts across hundreds of retailers.
- Employee Assistance Program and access to Fitness Passport, subject to eligibility.
We're many services, with one purpose – to meet people where they are and walk with them. At Anglicare, we believe everyone is Made for Connection, with God, with each other and with the places we call home.
But sometimes, life unravels. That's where we step in, in Community and Mission, offering hope, support and presence.
From community outreach to correctional chaplaincy, every moment of connection matters. And it's not just what we do. It's how we do it: side-by-side, with compassion and care.
As our Community & Justice Chaplain, you'll help bring this purpose to life across Dubbo, building meaningful relationships, sharing the hope of Jesus and walking alongside people who may otherwise feel forgotten or disconnected.
Are you ready for a career that means more?
If you're passionate about Christian ministry and want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people experiencing disadvantage and incarceration, we'd love to hear from you.
We welcome applications from candidates interested in either the Justice Chaplaincy-only opportunity or the combined Community & Justice Chaplaincy position.
When applying, please indicate which option you are interested in:
