About the Role
Join a dedicated Safety & Wellbeing team supporting the mental health and psychological wellbeing of staff members. This is a permanent position based in Wollongong, with occasional travel within NSW required to support outreach and service delivery across regional and metropolitan units. Working in collaboration with the Occupational Psychologist, you will provide evidence-based psychological advice and support to enhance member mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, including consultancy to people managers regarding the wellbeing of their teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the coordination of incident response during critical incidents or adverse events, in line with the agency's processes, to support members and staff exposed to work-related incidents that may impact their mental health.
- Lead the delivery of mental health support and psychological first-aid services alongside the Mental Health Services Team, supporting members exposed to work-related traumatic incidents.
- Adhere to current clinical governance frameworks, policies and procedures, ensuring accurate documentation and record-keeping within case management systems.
- Collaborate with the broader Safety & Wellbeing Team to provide expert advice to members and leaders, supporting the design, delivery and quality improvement of mental health services and programs, including education and training.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of research, trends and evaluation methods in mental health and psychological wellbeing, particularly as relevant to the emergency service sector, to inform evidence-based practice and program design.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives informed by emerging research, aligned with strategic goals, mental health frameworks and operational demand.
- Proactively engage in outreach by travelling across NSW to promote, monitor and support mental health service initiatives.
- Engage in clinical supervision and meet legislative requirements set by relevant professional registration boards, including identifying professional/clinical matters relating to individual or organisational risk.
Key Requirements
- Full registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), with a minimum of 5 years' post-graduate experience.
- Demonstrated high-level knowledge, skills and experience in trauma-informed practice, evidence-based psychological tools, theories and practice, psychological first aid, psychosocial hazards (including potentially traumatic events) and critical incident response.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound clinical judgement and adhere to clinical governance protocols, including service evaluation and quality improvement.
- Board Approved Supervisor status with AHPRA, or a commitment to complete competency-based supervisor training with a board-approved provider.
- A valid NSW driver's licence and the ability and willingness to travel to emergency service unit locations throughout NSW, often at short notice.
- Thorough knowledge of AIIMS principles and processes, and/or willingness to obtain competency within 12 months.
