Section overviewThe Radiochemistry and Environmental Sciences Laboratory sits within the Radiation Health Services Branch and is responsible for ARPANSA's laboratories and field measurement capabilities required for the measurement of radiation in people and the environment. This includes maintenance of ARPANSA's radiation emergency response laboratories.
Primary purpose of the roleIn this role, you will lead the planning, coordination and delivery of ARPANSA's Radiochemistry and Environmental Sciences (RES) Laboratory Safety Uplift Project. Operating under broad direction, you will manage complex stakeholder relationships, project governance, technical inputs and delivery activities required to achieve fit-for-purpose laboratory infrastructure outcomes that improve safety, compliance and operational resilience.
You will act as the central coordination point between scientific staff, Facilities and Engineering, WHS, procurement specialists, contractors and executive stakeholders, ensuring the right expertise is engaged at the right time to support informed decision-making and effective project delivery.
The role is responsible for establishing project governance arrangements, managing project scope, budgets, schedules, risks and dependencies, and ensuring refurbishment activities align with laboratory operational requirements and relevant standards. You will support the successful delivery of infrastructure upgrades while minimising impacts on critical laboratory functions and maintaining stakeholder confidence throughout the project lifecycle.

Section overviewThe Modelling, Assessment and Emergency Preparedness (MAEP) Section provides advice, underpilled by health impact assessments and expert knowledge, to international bodies, Commonwealth departments and agencies, state and territory regulators, industry and members of the public. The section specialises in dose and risk assessment for planned, existing and emergency exposure situation, maintains expertise in modelling radiation exposure and doses to people and the environment, and maintains and coordinates expansion of the Australian National Radiation Dose Register (ANRDR). Provides support to our obligations under the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty by undertaking programs as the radionuclide National Data Centre.
Primary purpose of the roleThis role is directly responsible for providing leadership, co-ordination and advice on the application of modelling and assessment to support ARPANSA's technical and scientific support services function. You will be required to perform and lead a range of very complex and sensitive scientific and coordination tasks associated with environmental dispersion modelling, radiation dose calculations and health and environmental impact assessments. You will work closely with other staff within the MAEP Section and more broadly with staff across the Agency to ensure that advice provided is based on the latest scientific knowledge and national and international experience.

Key ResponsibilitiesReporting to the STEM Laboratory Manager, the Laboratory Technician plays a key role in supporting teaching staff and ensuring the effective operation of science laboratories.
- Prepare, test and set up experiments, practical activities and demonstrations
- Provide in class support during practical lessons as required
- Maintain laboratories, equipment and scientific resources
- Manage stock, purchasing and inventory systems
- Ensure compliance with health, safety and regulatory requirements
