The Position

Assist the Executive Director Medical Services (EDMS) in the coordination, administration and evaluation of Agency wide aspects of Medical Services.

Responsible for ensuring that the recruitment, appointment, credentialing and employment of junior medical staff are consistent with legislative and Award provision.

Responsible for overseeing the recruitment and workforce planning for junior medical staff, selection and ongoing training requirements (Vocational and pre-vocational).

Responsible for overseeing the strategic development and improved partnership and communications with General Practice and the wider community health care providers

Act in the position of EDMS as required, in addition to being delegated as required.

Selection Criteria

Clinical Leadership experience at a senior level in a tertiary, regional health service. or equivalent.

Holds or is working towards Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA), or Associate Fellowship of RACMA (AFRACMA), or equivalent post-Graduate health management qualification(s).

Demonstrated experience and interest in the organisation and management of medical staff within a rapidly changing hospital environment with a client-centred and clinically driven management philosophy.

Sound knowledge of and experience in contemporary human resource management issues.

Demonstrated understanding of junior medical staff issues as they impact in a teaching hospital environment.

Demonstrated high level of interpersonal skills and ability to work with and lead other staff including the ability to work and liaise with other health professionals.

Demonstrated achievement of a high level of customer/patient focus by setting and monitoring standards and promoting an ethos of excellent patient/customer service.

Sound knowledge of the national and state health policy framework impacting on health service delivery in Tasmania.

Demonstrated understanding of legislation relevant to the position.

The Package

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 -$310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

The Youth Hospital in the Home (Y‑HiTH) team is part of the Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) in North‑West Tasmania. Based in Devonport, this multidisciplinary team provides intensive, home‑based mental health care for young people aged 16–24. The Position

Be part of a multidisciplinary youth mental health service (16-25 years of age) delivering high quality mental health care and, in accordance with Mental Health Service principles, National Mental Health Standards, Agency policy, legal requirements and relevant professional competencies.

Child and Youth Mental Health Services Aim:

We are seeking a Senior Clinical Psychologist with extensive knowledge, understanding and experience in forensic mental health issues and risks, specifically in relation to young people, and their families/carers, presenting with complex mental health concerns and/or complex behaviours of concern. You will have a proven ability to conduct high level clinical assessments, including the development of comprehensive management plans and completion of court reports.

This new position has been developed as a recommendation from the recent Commission of Inquiry Report (Tasmania) to support young people in youth detention who require trauma-informed psychological intervention. The Senior Clinical Psychologist will have a passion for providing a person-centred approach and working within a multidisciplinary team environment.

As part of CYMHS Reform, clinical services in Tasmania are under development with many exciting professional, developmental and research opportunities available.

This position is based in Launceston in the new Divert and Connect Program which is currently in the early stages of development. This role will provide you with the opportunity to assist in implementing new programs in Northern Tasmania, working collaboratively with other government and non-government services. Travel to Ashley Youth Detention Centre will be required as part of this role.

The Role

• Provide comprehensive evidence-based clinical assessment, treatment, and assertive case management service, including the development and implementation of specialist treatment programs and group programs, and the provision of formal psychological reports as required.
• Provide high quality, timely evidence based written court assessment reports for young people appearing in Tasmanian Courts in relation to offences.
• Work as a member of the multidisciplinary team from a case management framework, including outreach and case management reviews, to ensure continuity of care and best practice outcomes for young people detained in youth detention.

You will need

• A minimum of five years post graduate experience, with extensive knowledge, understanding and experience of forensic mental health issues and risks in relation to young people and their families/carers presenting with complex mental health concerns and/or complex behaviours of concern with a proven ability to conduct high level clinical assessments including demonstrated problem solving, advanced therapeutic interventions and the development of comprehensive management plans and court reports.
• Proven high level interpersonal skills including oral and written communication, negotiation, conflict resolution and decision making, together with the ability to develop comprehensive oral and written reports.
• Extensive experience and knowledge of effective liaison and consultation with other services and agencies in the context of providing specialised mental health assessment, advice, and training.

There is strategic vision for an Older Person's Emergency Department geriatrician role. The Aged Care specialists provide multiple services to inpatients (including a consultative service and shared care orthogeriatrics model of 10-20 patients) and outpatients, as well as provide a robust educational program.

Clinics include memory, falls and balance and movement disorders. All clinics involve Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment and are supported by a dedicated aged care clinic nurse and closely associated with the Community Rehabilitation Unit which is co-located on the site. Clinics include a mix of face-to-face and telehealth (video/telephone) consultations. There is also the option to participate in regional TAZREACH Outreach clinics.

There are opportunities to pursue research interests as part of this role. The department provides a strong education program to undergraduates, allied health, nursing and postgraduates.

There is strong collegiality, stability, and energy within the group of 17 geriatricians.

The Aged Care Department has an establishment of 9 FTE registrar positions which includes up to 4 advanced trainees in geriatrics, with the remainder being registrars in Geriatric Medicine. These positions are supported by 6 interns in acute geriatrics and 1 intern in orthogeriatrics; and 6 resident medical officers across the subacute services.

The Role The successful applicant will provide services in Geriatric Medicine including diagnosis, treatment, and care for patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The role also includes participation in an after-hours roster and on-call service, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs, and continuous quality improvement activities.

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $222,789 - $319,701 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $309,222 - $319,701 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

• Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025

In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

• Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year.
• Motor vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum, pro rata.
• Participation in Private Practice Scheme 35% or allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35%.Subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of base salary plus on call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.
• Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $17,483per annum, pro rata.
• Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate.
• Professional development and accelerated pathways.

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria as:

• Holds specialist registration; or
• Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway; or
• Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality.

• Experience in Anatomical Pathology, Cytopathology and Chemical Pathology
• Successful completion of the Australasian, or equivalent overseas, training program in Pathology
