About the Opportunity
A unique and exciting opportunity has become available for a 12 month Maternity locum for a Senior Generalist Speech Pathologist based at Broken Hill Health Service. You will be part of a small innovative team adapting service provision for the Rural/remote context. There is opportunity to gain a wide range of experience in Acute Adult dysphagia, Paediatric feeding, Adult Communication disorders and Paediatric Speech and Language. You may also deliver services via outreach visits or Telehealth. It is a role that will support junior clinicians and we encourage involvement with quality improvement projects. Being rural and remote we have multiple networks that can support advancement in the different areas of Speech Pathology. Explore the role by contacting the Manager, Tracy Herlihy. We will accept applications from appropriately experienced Level 2 clinicians ready to transition to Level 3 role and if you feel you have more experience in Adult rather than Paediatric work, caseload maybe modified to suit your skill set.
Provide senior clinical oversight and interventions for the Speech Pathology team based within the Broken Hill Hospital and Health Service.
- Provide assessment and treatment to the adult and paediatric Speech Pathology Services utilising a collaborative practice model in a multidisciplinary team.
- The clinical services span the areas of acute, subacute, outpatient and community.
Outreach and telehealth services may also be components of future services that will be required.
- Degree in Speech Pathology or equivalent as recognised by Speech Pathology Australia and eligibility for practising membership of Speech Pathology Australia, with at least 3 years postgraduate experience and skills in Adult and Paediatric caseloads, with the ability to manage complex conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team to deliver high quality, evidence-based Speech Pathology services to paediatric and adult clients with complex communication and swallowing disorders within the acute, rehabilitation and general outpatient settings.

- Demonstrated high level organisational, time management and prioritisation skills in an environment of competing clinical, supervisory and administrative demands.
- Demonstrated high-level written and verbal communication, consultation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, with proven ability to liaise effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, implement and evaluate service delivery, individually or in collaboration with others, including quality improvement processes, and share the findings with other staff and stakeholders as appropriate.
- Demonstrated ability to apply and share professional expertise through the provision of effective clinical supervision, education and support to Level 1 / 2 Speech Pathology staff, tertiary students, Allied Health assistants, school based trainees and work experience students.
- Current unrestricted NSW driver's license or equivalent, with willingness to travel for outreach programs, potentially with overnight stays.
