Based in the iconic outback town of Broken Hill, the Clinical Lead – Primary Care and Rural Generalism (Far Western NSW) will play a pivotal role in developing and delivering safe and high-quality rural generalist care across rural and remote communities in Far Western NSW, while also contributing meaningfully to clinical leadership and service delivery across RFDSSE.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Clinical Service Provision (0.8 FTE)
- Provide clinical leadership across Far Western Primary Health services including Clive Bishop Medical Centre and Network Clinics (12 outreach clinics)
- Deliver high-quality primary care including acute, chronic, preventative and mental health services
- Undertake consultations in clinic, community, outreach and telehealth settings
- Ensure continuity of care through appropriate follow-up, referrals and coordination
- Supervise and support GP/RG Registrars, junior doctors and medical students
- Provide clinical teaching, mentoring and assessment for learners and help create a positive and supportive learning environment
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and local health partners
- Engage respectfully with local communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, to deliver culturally appropriate care
Medical Administration (0.2 FTE)
- Collaborate with Clinical Director of Primary Care to develop and deliver a Rural Generalist (RG) training model
- Support GP Registrars across ACRRM and RACGP pathways
- Build educator capacity among supervisors and ensure quality clinical supervision
- Coordinate training experiences aligned with RACGP, ACRRM, HETI, and university partner requirements
- Promote Rural Generalist career pathways and improve training and support for Registrars and supervisors
- Support Clinical Governance activities, including accreditation (NSQHS, AGPAL/RACGP), quality improvement, clinical audits, and morbidity and mortality reviews
- Contribute to the development and review of clinical protocols, policies, incident reporting and risk management
- Assist in the expansion of services aligned with RFDSSE strategy and mission.
Essential Criteria
- Fellowship with either RACGP or ACRRM. FACRRM and FRACGP-RG preferred

Join the RFDS and practise medicine where it truly matters. This is a genuine rural generalist opportunity offering clinical variety, procedural exposure, and the chance to make a lasting difference.
This is not a standard clinic role. You’ll see diverse presentations, build continuity with remote patients, and become part of the communities you serve. You will fly in and out via aircraft or use road travel for drive-in clinics.
You will have support from a number of multidisciplinary team members including flight nurses, medical officers, pilots and the executive team along with fully equipped facilities.
Rostering
Available cycles in the form of:
- 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off
- 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off
- month on/ month off
Happy to discuss models with candidates but looking for continuity to ensure patient stability and team cohesion.
The Package
As a GP you may elect to be paid via:
- a salary package ($211,927 to $296,805), or
- percentage-based remuneration (70% billings earning typically $2,000 to $2,500 per day)

- Proven leadership and operational management experience in a complex, fast-paced environment, with the ability to oversee multi-site operations; experience in healthcare, emergency services or a community-focused organisation is advantageous but not essential
- Strong people leadership capability, with demonstrated experience in recruitment, team development, employee engagement and performance management
- Sound understanding of governance, compliance and WHS/OHS, with the ability to manage operational risk, incidents and continuous improvement effectively
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Business, Management, Health Administration, Community Services or a related field, with relevant workplace safety certifications (e.g., Fire Warden, First Aid) or willingness to obtain

About this OpportunityThis opportunity is open to experienced Mental Health Clinicians and Mental Health Nurses as well as suitable internship candidates seeking to develop their practice in a supported environment.
Reporting directly to the Mental Health Service Manager, you will be inspired to deliver a stepped mental health service that is evidence based and culturally safe in the context of remote First Nations communities across regional and remote Australia.
You will be supported to deliver moderate intensity mental health services to clients who are not able to access appropriate services due to living in remote locations or being ineligible for existing services. Delivering evidence based psychological interventions, you will utilise a combination of telephone, telehealth, and face to face consulting methods to achieve positive outcomes for RFDS SA/NT clients.
You will be a vital resource to remote communities, ensuring to identify activities to further develop - and increase awareness of - mental health and emotional wellbeing services.
About YouYou are:
- Experienced in the delivery of mental health interventions in line with National Standards for Mental Health Services and practices
- Aware of treatment approaches for remote First Nations communities and associated healing practices
- Experienced in integrating existing government and non-government agencies and other human service providers in the planning and delivery of services.

We are seeking a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to join our well-established Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs, and Wellbeing Team. This multidisciplinary team delivers high-quality, recovery-focused care from four Wellbeing Place centres and through outreach services to more than 30 remote communities across Western NSW, travelling by 4WD and light aircraft to reach those who need support most.
This role will support the Mental Health Nurse Incentive Program (MHNIP), funded by the Western NSW Primary Health Network and successfully delivered by RFDS for several years. The introduction of the Mental Health Nurse Practitioner position reflects our commitment to expanding access to advanced mental health care for regional and remote communities.
As a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, you will provide coordinated clinical care and therapeutic support to people living with chronic and complex mental health conditions across Broken Hill, Dubbo and Western NSW. The MHNIP model offers exceptional flexibility, enabling consumers to access the right care, at the right time, for as long as they need it-an approach particularly valuable for those experiencing severe and persistent mental illness.
Working collaboratively within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will deliver advanced clinical assessments, diagnostic expertise and evidence-based treatment planning, helping to address health inequities created by geographical isolation. The role combines therapeutic intervention, care coordination and case management, tailoring support to each individual's goals and recovery journey in accordance with MHNIP guidelines and contemporary best practice.

About this OpportunityRFDS SA/NT retrieval doctors support remote South Australia & Northern Territory by providing remote emergency advice, clinical coordination of primary retrievals & aeromedical emergency care from our Port Augusta base. You may be based/living in Adelaide maintaining your skills in emergency medicine or anaesthesia, with a passion for supporting regional communities part time by driving to Port Augusta once every 4-8 weeks for a 4-7-day rotation as part of a team of highly skilled doctors and flight nurses. About You- Unrestricted Medical Practitioner registration with AHPRA.
- Fellowship with ACEM, ANZCA or RACGP/ACRRM with JCCA or GEMS certification.
- Minimum three years' experience in Emergency medicine and/or Anaesthesia.
- Minimum 6 months training in a critical care environment.
- Experience in procedural skills, resuscitation and paediatrics.
- A good understanding of and appreciation for primary healthcare, allied healthcare and your nursing colleagues.
- Experience supervising and mentoring consultants, registrars and medical students.
- Highly developed leadership, management and communication skills.

About the roleRural Generalists (RGs) at RFDS join a team that combines experienced RGs alongside Retrieval Consultants, together providing primary care, emergency aeromedical care and telemedicine - a uniquely supported environment for RGs and senior GP trainees alike.
The RFDS Primary Health Care Service is delivered by a team of RGs, ACRRM and RACGP Registrars, nurses, midwives, and allied health professionals. Comprehensive health services are delivered by a combination of telephone consultations, scheduled fly-in clinics encompassing GP/Nurse/Midwife/Mental Health/Oral Health, with additional permanent Remote Area Nurse clinics across various SA locations. These services include General Practice, Preventative Health, Community Medicine, Obstetrics Shared Care, Aged & Palliative Care, Men's & Women's Health, Mental Health, Sexual Health, and Aboriginal Health.
RGs also provide emergency telehealth consultations to both patients and remote area clinicians (RANs, mine site paramedics), and low to moderate acuity emergency aeromedical care collaboratively with our highly skilled flight nursing team. High acuity retrieval cases are additionally supported by a team of Retrieval Consultants, providing additional critical care advice both on call and in person.
All new doctors receive a formal week-long clinical orientation in Adelaide, followed by supernumerary buddied shifts the first week in Port Augusta. The service is supported by administrative staff and a 24/7 Operations Control Centre located on-site.
About YouWith a keen interest in rural and remote emergency and primary care medicine you will be challenged to use your expertise and initiative in both aeromedical and remote outback clinic environments.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Current Fellowship or on a pathway to fellowship with one or more of the following:
- Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACCRM)
- Royal Australian College of General Practice (RACGP)

About this OpportunityThe Clinical Director Retrieval Services is the medical head of aeromedical retrieval services in RFDS SA/NT. The role supports the Executive General Manager of Medical and Retrieval Services and leads a team of doctors in the achievement of our strategic goals, ensuring the delivery of 24/7 high quality aeromedical clinical care and best practice clinical governance aligned to NSQHS standards. The role is also responsible for the development, implementation and delivery of alternative and innovative service delivery methodologies.
You'll come to work knowing that your efforts are enabling our organisation to remain at the forefront of rural and remote health care delivery and advocacy. Importantly, you're also helping ensure our organisation is efficient, effective and sustainable now and in the future.
