- The SA Virtual Emergency Service (SAVES) operates every evening between 7pm and 7am giving virtual ED support to 33 rural hospitals. SAVES doctors conduct each shift from the RDWA offices at Mile End.
- Supported hospitals can refer category 3 to 5 presentations for telephone and video consultation with a SAVES GP. Patient records are managed through Sunrise EMR, with consult orders referred to SAVES and a follow up phone call from the originating site to initiate a consultation.
- The SAVES facility has VC equipment to dial into all supported hospital emergency departments. Progress notes for the emergency presentations are entered directly into Sunrise. In the instance a patient requires face-to-face review, local on-call GPs are available to attend as needed. An orientation to the service is provided either prior to the first shift or at the start of a scheduled session. This will typically take 4 hours.

About the Role:
An exciting opportunity is available to join the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) as a Clinical Coder (Level 2) or Advanced Clinical Coder (Level 3) within the Health Information Management Service (HIMS) - a critical function that supports high-quality patient care, accurate data reporting, and sustainable health service delivery.

In these roles, you will be responsible for the timely and accurate translation of clinical documentation into ICD-10-AM (current edition), ensuring coded data is suitable for statistical analysis, epidemiology, hospital planning, research, and quality assurance. A key outcome of your work is the accurate assignment of Australian Refined Diagnosis Related Groups (AR-DRGs), which directly underpin Activity Based Funding (ABF) and inform organisational decision-making.
As a Clinical Coder (Level 2), you will apply your coding expertise to a broad range of clinical cases while contributing to team capability through mentoring and knowledge sharing.
As an Advanced Clinical Coder (Level 3), you will take the lead on complex and specialised cases, working closely with clinicians to clarify documentation and ensure coding accuracy at the highest level. In both roles, you will play an integral part in maintaining coding quality standards and supporting continuous improvement across the service.
You will report to the Manager Coding Services, working both independently and collaboratively within a professional and supportive team environment that values accuracy, accountability, and ongoing development.
To be eligible for this position as a Clinical Coder (Level 2) ASO4 classification, you must successful completion of a recognised HLT50321 Diploma of Clinical Coding course in ICD-10-AM (current edition) or equivalent, together with demonstrated competency in ICD-10-AM coding; or International Transition to ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS.
To be eligible for this position as an Advanced Clinical Coder (Level 3) ASO5 classification, successful completion of the HLT50321 Diploma of Clinical Coding Course in ICD-10-AM or equivalent, together with demonstrated advanced competency in ICD-10-AM (current edition) coding as determined by Manager.
