Where you'll be working Join a supportive and collaborative team at the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced clinician who is passionate about improving the mental health and wellbeing of children, young people, and their families.
CAMHS is a specialist service providing assessment, treatment, and care coordination for children and young people aged 0-17 years experiencing moderate to severe mental health concerns across Hunter New England Local Health District. We work closely with young people, families, carers, schools, and community partners to deliver evidence-based, developmentally appropriate care that supports recovery and positive outcomes.
Our New England North West CAMHS clinicians provide support to young people living across the region. You'll have clients located at your base site, and at neighbouring sites. This position has been based in Armidale, though we also welcome applications from prospective employees based in Glen Innes or Inverell, and who have capacity to travel and deliver telehealth services.
The Opportunity As a Mental Health Clinician with CAMHS, you will provide discipline specific mental health assessments, treatment, and care coordination services for children, adolescents, and their families or carers. Working within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you'll collaborate with Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists/Clinical Psychologists in Training, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Nurses, and a Dietitian to deliver high-quality, family-centred care.
Our service offers specialist child, adolescent, and family-based mental health interventions, including individual, dyadic, and family therapy. You'll contribute your professional expertise while working collaboratively with colleagues across the broader CAMHS network, with access to regular supervision, ongoing professional development, and opportunities to expand your clinical skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivering discipline specific specialist mental health assessments, evidence-based interventions, and case management for children, young people, and their families or carers.
- Providing trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and recovery-oriented care.
- Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and with external service providers to support coordinated care.
- Applying sound clinical judgement to assessment, formulation, risk management, and treatment planning.
- Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with professional, legal, ethical, and organisational standards.
- Contributing to quality improvement initiatives and the ongoing development of CAMHS services.
- Managing a clinical caseload with an appropriate level of autonomy while accessing support and supervision as required.
You'll be supported by the CAMHS New England North West Team Leader, alongside an experienced team of Clinical Psychologists, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Nurses, Dietitians, and Child & Adolescent Psychiatrists. Glen Innes District HospitalGlen Innes District Hospital is located within the Hunter New England Local Health District, part of the Glen Innes Severn Shire local government area. The facility is a 24-bed Level 3 rural hospital, incorporating a two-bay, four-bed Emergency Department (ED). In addition to emergency care, the hospital provides medical, obstetric, and day surgery services. Within the ED, a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) is available onsite on Fridays and is strongly supported by Armidale Rural Referral Hospital's Emergency Department. The Emergency Department is currently undergoing a $50 million redevelopment, which will deliver a modern, purpose-built ED designed to support flexible clinical services and contemporary models of care for the Glen Innes community now and into the future. Emergency services will continue to operate at a Level 3 role delineation, managing minor injuries, as well as resuscitation and stabilisation prior to transfer to higher-level facilities.

Located on the land of Kamilaroi/Gomeroi/Gamillaray people, Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital, with 282 beds is the largest healthcare facility in NSW outside the Sydney-Wollongong-Newcastle metropolis.
Our Paediatric and Adolescent Inpatient Unit provides services to children in the New England, North West & Upper Hunter area and is the major referral centre for the northern sector of HNELHD. The Paediatric Unit has 18 beds with over 2600 admissions per year. Including orthopaedics, ophthalmology, dental, gastroenterology, endocrinology, oncology and mental health admissions. Our Paediatric outpatient clinic sees an approximate of 5000 patients annually. Visiting subspecialty outreach clinics from JHCH include Paediatric Surgery, Endocrinology, Neurology, Brain Injury, Respiratory/CF, Haematology-oncology, Cleft palate, Immunology, Rehabilitation, Neonatal follow up, Cardiac and Out of Home Care. We boast a strong experienced community allied health team providing developmental assessments and specialty clinics.
Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital also provides Level 3 Neonatal Services, supporting newborns delivered at our Level 4 maternity service. The paediatric team attends all high-risk deliveries and provides neonatal resuscitation, stabilisation, and ongoing care for infants born 32 weeks' gestation or 1500 g, as well as initial resuscitation and stabilisation for infants born unexpectedly below these thresholds prior to NETS retrieval. Our Special Care Nursery provides short-term CPAP, phototherapy, glucose stabilisation, sepsis management, feeding and growth support, temperature regulation, and transition care for infants returning from tertiary units. Neonatal care consistently represents more than half of our inpatient workload, making it a central and defining component of the paediatrician role. The service maintains close partnership with NETS and John Hunter Children's Hospital, . Candidates with combined general paediatrics and neonatal skills or interest are strongly encouraged to apply and will be instrumental in shaping the neonatal service development.

What You Will Be Doing
No two days are the same. You'll have the opportunity to work across multiple areas, broaden your experience and build skills that are transferable across paediatric and special care nursing.
You will:
- Provide safe, high-quality and family-centred nursing care to babies, children and young people.
- Work across Paediatrics and Special Care, gaining experience across a diverse range of clinical presentations.
- Care for premature and newborn babies requiring additional monitoring and support.
- Provide nursing care to children and young people with medical, surgical, orthopaedic and eating disorder presentations.
- Complete clinical assessments and monitor patients, recognising and escalating changes in condition.
