You will demonstrate a high level of initiative, creativity & contribute to our vision of innovative models of care.
The Director of Nursing & Midwifery (DNM) is operationally responsible to the General Manager & professionally responsible to the Executive Director of Nursing & Midwifery, Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD). The DNM is a member of the senior executive team of the SHG providing leadership & is responsible for the overall management & clinical practice of Nursing & Midwifery Services in Shoalhaven Hospital Group.
The DNM will provide effective leadership and governance for Nursing and Midwifery Services at SHG. The DNM will ensure that procedure, practice, professional development & research are planned, delivered & evaluated in line with ISLHD strategic priorities.
The role will provide guidance & support to ensure that there is a focus on service development & appropriate oversight of practices, trends & indicators. Ongoing assessment & improvement in operational processes & clinical outcomes is an inherent responsibility of this position.
The DNM is responsible for the supervision, coordination & management of the nursing services and/or operations to ensure the delivery of high quality consistent patient care, efficient use of resources & staff who conform to all contemporary practice standards.
The DNM will foster & maintain close professional relationships with relevant clinical managers, peers & District managers to achieve organisational goals.
As a nursing senior manager it is essential to ensure that systems and processes are in place to support the Nursing/Midwifery Unit Managers to meet the standards outlined in the Nursing and Midwifery management Framework. The DNM will be a visible and supportive leader, driving excellence through the display of behaviours that align with the NSW Health CORE values.
Shoalhaven Memorial Hospital is the main referral hospital for the Shoalhaven region , providing emergency care, medical, surgical, mental health and orthopaedic services. The hospital has an Intensive Care Unit focusing on ventilated, high dependency and coronary patients, Children's Ward and Maternity Unit, as well as a purpose-built regional Cancer Care Centre.
The hospital is currently undergoing a significant $440M redevelopment that will redefine how healthcare is delivered within the Region. Once complete in 2026, the new seven-storey Acute Services Building and refurbishments on the current hospital site will bring a focus on career development. allowing you to grow your career, acquire new skills and advance professionally as the hospital continues to develop. Within this redevelopment, a purpose-designed Mental Health Inpatient Unit will open for the first time at Shoalhaven Memorial Hospital, providing local consumers with access to comprehensive inpatient mental health care closer to home. What you'll be doing
The Trainee in Rehabilitation Medicine will provide a consultative rehabilitation service t o inpatients and outpatients within the facilities of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District, in conjunction with the supervising Specialists. The Trainee will assist in the development and implementation of a goal-oriented Rehabilitation plan and the coordination of Rehabilitation treatment at facilities within the Rehabilitation Networks as well as referral to other facilities as required.
The Trainee will gain experience in general principles of Rehabilitation Medicine and perform comprehensive Rehabilitation Assessment and care of patients referred to the Department of Rehabilitation. This position supports pre-requisites for future training positions with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).
Work at Bulli, Coledale, David Berry, Port Kembla, Wollongong and Shoalhaven Hospitals may be required.

A little about us.
The Mental Health Inpatient Unit at Shoalhaven Memorial Hospital will comprise a 32-bed unit, that will include 4 Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre beds, 16 Acute Mental Health beds and 12 Mental Health Rehabilitation beds, delivering specialist inpatient assessment, treatment, stabilisation and recovery-focused care for adults across the Shoalhaven. This purpose-built Mental Health unit has been designed to support both voluntary and involuntary consumers, providing a modern therapeutic environment that promotes recovery, safety, dignity and family-inclusive practice. Importantly, these beds will form part of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Mental Health Services network bed structure, working in close partnership with Mental Health services across the broader District. With this networked approach ISLHD can ensure consumers have access to the most appropriate level of care throughout their recovery journey, while staff benefit from strong professional connections, collaborative models of care and opportunities for development across a diverse range of mental health settings.

The DNM will provide effective leadership and governance for Nursing and Midwifery Services at SHG. The DNM will ensure that procedure, practice, professional development & research are planned, delivered & evaluated in line with ISLHD strategic priorities.
The role will provide guidance & support to ensure that there is a focus on service development & appropriate oversight of practices, trends & indicators. Ongoing assessment & improvement in operational processes & clinical outcomes is an inherent responsibility of this position.
The DNM is responsible for the supervision, coordination & management of the nursing services and/or operations to ensure the delivery of high quality consistent patient care, efficient use of resources & staff who conform to all contemporary practice standards.
The DNM will foster & maintain close professional relationships with relevant clinical managers, peers & District managers to achieve organisational goals.
As a nursing senior manager it is essential to ensure that systems and processes are in place to support the Nursing/Midwifery Unit Managers to meet the standards outlined in the Nursing and Midwifery management Framework. A little about us.
Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed-base count of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.
Wollongong is located an hour’s drive south of Sydney on a narrow coastal strip bordered by the Royal National Park to the north, Lake Illawarra to the south, the Tasman Sea to the east and the Illawarra Escarpment to the west.
