Are you a Registered Nurse, with an interest in providing compassionate maternity care? In partnership with Federation University, St John of God Health Care offers the Student Midwife Employed Program, enabling you to complete the Graduate Diploma of Midwifery while being employed as a Registered Nurse/Student Midwife. We will support you to meet the clinical requirements of the qualification through regular, rostered, paid shifts, building skills and confidence to become the midwife you want to be.
You will be offered fixed-term employment on a part-time basis working as a Registered Nurse/Student Midwife.
While a place on the Federation University Graduate Diploma in Midwifery course is guaranteed for successful candidates, the enrolment into the course and payment of course fees are arranged directly with the university and is the responsibility of the participant.

The Requirements:
Required to be enrolled or eligible to enrol in the February 2027 Graduate Diploma in Midwifery at Federation University
Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA)
At least one year post graduate experience as a Registered Nurse
Must be eligible to work in Australia
Intends to remain employed as a Registered Midwife at St John of God Health Care for a minimum of 12 months post completion of qualification

Embark on your midwifery career with Epworth through our 2027 Midwifery Postgraduate Program. This is a unique opportunity to join our dedicated and supportive team of midwives, where you will continue to grow your clinical knowledge and professional skills in the rewarding field of midwifery.
Throughout the 12-month program, commencing in February 2027, you will be guided, mentored, and supported by our experienced Clinical Educators. The program offers a combination of practical experience and academic learning, delivered in collaboration with La Trobe University as part of the Graduate Diploma of Midwifery.
This is a fixed-term 0.8 EFT position, comprising:
- 0.5 EFT paid employment
- 0.3 EFT supernumerary clinical placement (unpaid student model)
You will work on a rotating roster across various maternity settings, gaining comprehensive, hands-on experience.
Please note: Once your application with Epworth is successful, you will be required to apply separately to La Trobe University as part of the course admission process.

You are passionate about delivering an exceptional patient experience by delivering high-quality Midwifery care. Professional, empathetic and compassionate in your personal conduct, you have the ability to inspire others and be a positive role model. You are motivated to continually learn, improve and promote best practice.
You will have:
- Current AHPRA nursing registration
- Australian Citizenship / Permanent Residency; OR New Zealand Citizenship
- You will have a minimum of one-year acute clinical nursing experience following your graduate year within the perioperative setting.
