ED/IPU Nights — Face-to-face clinical handover with day doctor at 1730 – 1800 and 0730 – 0800 in the Emergency Department. You will be required to be onsite from 1730 to 2300. The on call doctor overnight is expected to attend the hospital when requested to attend by Nursing staff. Provide medical care to inpatients, complete discharge summaries and review admitted patients as requested. Provide onsite medical care to patients presenting to the emergency department. Provide medical care to admitted postoperative patients. Complete contemporaneous and comprehensive clinical documentation in eMR. Provide and lead clinical review, rapid response, trauma and cardiac arrest services across the facility Check pathology and radiology results in the ED results message centre ordered by any doctor, follow-up and document management plans for any results needed further action and review any patients returning for follow-up of results. Provide surgical assistance in theatre when required. Participate in the training and supervision of students, junior medical officers and registrars. Participate in morbidity and mortality meetings, MDT meetings and other clinical meetings as requested.

The Doctor will be working as a Sole Practitioner in the ward with direct telephone links to Northern NSW Hospital Consultants. The locum will be supported in the Hospital by experienced Senior Nurses in the ward and ED staff - Specialist (FACEM) who is rostered every day and ED RMO. The ED Medical Officers assist with any ward emergencies and cover the ward after hours. The Doctor may also be asked to assist with emergencies in the ED while on duty as will the ED Doctors assist with any emergencies on the inpatient ward.

What You'll Be Doing
As part of a small, close-knit clinical team at Ceduna MPS, you'll provide generalist nursing and/or midwifery care across acute, aged care, and emergency presentations. Working within a multi-purpose service model means genuine breadth in your day-to-day practice.
- Deliver safe, person-centred nursing and/or midwifery care across MPS service streams
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients with varied and complex needs
- Collaborate with medical officers, allied health, and Aboriginal health practitioners to support holistic outcomes
- Contribute to a culturally safe environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and families
What You Bring
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Midwife with AHPRA
- Experience in a generalist, rural, or remote clinical setting
- Confidence working with clinical autonomy and a broad patient cohort
- Sound understanding of culturally responsive care principles
- Current immunisation status meeting SA Health requirements
- Eligibility to work in Australia for the duration of this engagement

We are excited to be able to offer Consultant posts within the newly developed division of Emergency and Acute Medical services at YNLHN. Although the working environment has improved over the last year, there is still plenty to do to improve our processes. We are looking for applicants who will be keen to make a real difference to patient care by providing clinical leadership, training and supporting clinical governance.
The region has a fledgling GP training scheme that we wish to expand in the next few years. Recently, there has been a significant investment in junior staffing across both Port Pirie and Wallaroo hospitals that have contributed positively to the working environment, leading to increased clinical safety and efficiency.
There are Consultant posts available at Wallaroo Emergency Department and Port Pirie Emergency Department. Both departments have seen a 10% increase in attendances over the last year All applicants must have attained a post-graduate qualification or be within six months of attaining this. Doctors who have attained FACEM, FRACGP and FACRRM are welcome to apply.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical services to the highest standard with limited supervision, exercising professional judgement and advanced clinical competence.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the emergency department efficiently and safely.
- Respond to MET/Code Blue/Code Black calls as required during shifts.
- Supervise, train, and provide guidance to junior medical staff and allied health professionals.
- Participate in teaching, quality assurance, continuous improvement, health promotion, and community education activities.
- Contribute to Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and departmental performance.
What We’re Looking For:
We’re seeking a dedicated and experienced medical practitioner who holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent, with appropriate specialist qualifications such as FACEM, FACRRM, or FRACGP. Ideally looking for a 0.5 to 1.0 full time equivalent commitment, however all applications will be considered. You must be registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration, or hold an equivalent qualification as defined in the SA Medical Officers Award. The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to work independently, lead clinical teams, and deliver high-quality emergency care in a multidisciplinary setting.
