About the role
The Manning Base Hospital Unaccredited Medical Trainee – Acute Medicine position offers committed trainees interested in a future of rural practice the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and gain experience in providing effective medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment in inpatients and outpatient areas in the public health organisation.
This Unaccredited Training position is aimed at providing PGY4 Trainees and can offer rotations between General Medicine, Emergency Department, Acute Medicine (ED/ Short Stay), Critical Care (up to 4 positions should the applicant express interest in these focus areas). The role is also expected to provide educational support to Junior Medical Officers within the hospital setting.
Upon completion of the Acute Medicine role, doctors will be well prepared to apply for trainee positions in Basic Physician Training, Intensive Care or Emergency Medicine, and will also have acquired many transferable skills that will be useful in other training programs such as Paediatrics and General Practice. This role is also highly relevant to those wanting to be an acute generalist (e.g. ACCRM).
Participation in relief / nights are expected on an equitable basis.

A spectacular meeting point of coastal beauty and hinterland wonder, the Manning Valley is a gem on the NSW North Coast. Cruise the beautiful river, swim at stunning beaches and find bushwalks, waterfalls and lookouts along the way.
Manning Hospital consists of 180 beds and, within, provides an excellent range of other specialist inpatient services including Emergency Medicine, Palliative Care, General Medicine, Paediatrics, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Intensive Care, Psychiatry, Renal, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Anaesthesia, Rehabilitation Services, Urology and Oncology Services to the local communities of Taree, Forster, Tuncurry and surrounding Lower Mid North Coast.
Manning Base Hospital treats approximately 25,000 inpatients, 33,000 Emergency Department patients and 90,700 outpatients each year.
With a population of over 90,300 and with the median age of 52 years old the Lower Mid North Coast Sector is projected to have the highest growth in the group age of 85 years and over.

About the role
The General Medicine Department at Manning Hospital provides generalist care to patients admitted under the General Medicine teams which are led by Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs) and Staff Specialists (SS) physicians. The physicians are also subspecialised in areas including respiratory medicine, renal, gastroenterology, cardiac, geriatrics medicine and Infection Diseases. The department is accredited with the Basic Physician Training (BPT) program.
This Unaccredited Training position is aimed at providing PGY4 and above doctors who are interested in joining Basic Physician Training an opportunity to further develop their skills at a subspecialist level whilst rotating amongst General Medicine teams with various sub-specialities; educational roles; afterhours hospital wards coverage; and also rotating in roles whilst conducting assessments of potential General Medicine patients in the Emergency Department.
The Unaccredited Trainee forms part of the General Medicine team and is responsible for providing, under the supervision of the Physician, General Medicine services, to patients admitted or in the process of being admitted under these teams. The Unaccredited Trainee will develop expertise in General Medicine practice, in a complex clinical environment in inpatients and outpatient areas at Manning Hospital.
This role will include participation in afterhours hospital coverage (Evening, Night and Weekend shifts). The applicant must have a commitment to rural practice and rural communities.

Where you will be working:
Wyong Hospital has a busy and active General Medicine Department with the opportunity to be attached to and help develop the MAU. Positions are also offered in ICU and a variety of subspecialties (including palliative care, cardiology, geriatrics, rehabilitation, medical oncology) at Wyong, Gosford, and Woy Woy Hospitals. The General Medical teams are supported with interns and residents and headed by either a staff specialist or VMO or combinations of these. Supervision is provided by dedicated general medicine specialists and subspecialty specialists where appropriate. CCLHD has strong links with the University Of Newcastle Medical School. Third year medical students are attached to each General Medical team. Teaching responsibilities include the teaching of the medical students, JMOs and BPTs. BTPTs are attached on rotation from Hunter New England.
Gosford Hospital is the principal referral hospital and trauma centre for the Central Coast, with over 500 inpatient beds and 24/7 access to the emergency department and operating theatres. A recent $368 million dollar redevelopment delivered a new emergency department, ICU, nuclear medicine facility, special care nursery and expanded medical imaging services.
Wyong Hospital is an acute major metropolitan hospital with over 300 beds providing inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to residents in the northern region of the Central Coast. A recent $200 million expansion delivered a new emergency department, ICU, paediatric unit, inpatient wards, theatres and expanded medical imaging services.
Woy Woy Hospital is a 30 bed care unit which provides sub-acute and transitional health care including rehabilitation and community health services, and which works closely with the current acute inpatient facilities and outpatient support services, with shared staffing to promote a continuum of care.
In conjunction with the University of Newcastle, CCLHD has recently opened the Central Coast Clinical School and Research Institute on the Gosford Hospital campus, providing additional opportunities in training and research.

The Hospital
Concord Repatriation General Hospital is proud of its healthcare service excellence and leadership in clinical care. Concord is part of a network of hospitals and healthcare services within Sydney Local Health District and offers a comprehensive range of specialty and sub-specialty services in the inner-western suburbs of Sydney.
Concord Hospital is committed to ensuring the community has equitable access to high quality patient-centred care that is timely, evidence-based, culturally appropriate and efficient. The hospital provides this care in partnership with highly skilled and committed staff.
The Department of Emergency Medicine
The Emergency department has 2 resus bays, 16 acute beds, a rapid access and fast track area and a new 5-bed ED short stay unit due for completion in late 2025. A high-end CT scanner has been installed adjacent to the resuscitation bays with a co-located radiology department.
Our department is a receiving centre for major burns, a primary PTCA centre for STEMI and is an acute stroke service referral centre. Our patient population is a cohort with complex medical conditions and high acuity presentations and a small proportion of paediatric attendances.
Concord ED is a major referral site and is accredited for 24 months of advanced ED training with Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM). We provide opportunities to get involved in research and quality assurance activities and encourage consolidating the practice of evidence-based medicine.
The role
As an ED SRMO you will be part of the dynamic team providing emergency care under the guidance of Emergency Consultants. What you will be doing
The primary purpose of Trainee Stage 2-4 Trainee in Emergency Medicine is to provide high-quality medical care under appropriate supervision to undifferentiated patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
Our Emergency Medicine Network sites are fully accredited and meet all requirements for advanced training with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM). If you are a registrar level doctor (non ACEM trainee) looking to gain ED experience and join a team of friendly and enthusiastic ED staff in a bustling regional centre, then look no further than the Wagga Wagga Base Hospital Emergency Department!
Wagga Wagga is the largest inland city in NSW, situated in the Riverina area just under five hours’ drive southwest of Sydney, four hours’ north from Melbourne, and just under three hours’ drive west from Canberra. It is a lovely and welcoming, family-friendly city with plenty to see and do. Some examples include the city’s museum, art gallery and Civic Theatre, the Wagga Beach, the Wiradjuri walking track encircling the city, the beautiful Botanical Gardens, along with great boutiques, cafes, restaurants and wineries, good schools, and a local university. We are surrounded by stunning countryside in all directions, with the Snowy Mountains and multiple National Parks all within easy reach. There is a regional airport in Wagga which provides regular direct flights to and from Melbourne and Sydney in an hour, and Brisbane in two hours.
The city itself has a population of approximately 65,000 people. WWBH is the major rural referral hospital for the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD), which services 250,000 people in total across the vast Murrumbidgee area in NSW.
The WWBH ED has over 45000 presentations per year, with a wide variety of cases including general medicine and surgery, obstetrics, orthopaedics, and mental health. Approximately 25% of the ED presentations are paediatrics. One of the many advantages of coming to work in a regional centre is the exposure to rural medicine and procedural skills in a supervised environment, which includes managing significant trauma cases from farming/machinery accidents and MVAs.
WWBH is the regional trauma centre seeing approximately 100 major trauma presentations per year, the regional stroke centre, and the regional PCI centre with 24/7 access to two interventional cardiology labs and interventional radiology services. The ED has 3 resuscitation beds, and acute and subacute / ambulatory care areas. There is a co-located Emergency Department Short Stay Unit (EMU) with 8 monitored beds.
Non vocational ED registrars are rostered to all areas of the ED including EMU, which ensures not only access to the breadth of presentations but makes the most of the opportunities in our procedure rich environment.There is double FACEM cover from 0800-2400 daily with an on-call FACEM overnight.
Opportunities in this role at Wagga include FACEM supervision to complete an ACEM qualification such as the Emergency Medicine Certificate, Diploma and/or the Advanced Diploma. There is an extensive ACEM Emergency Medicine Education and Training (EMET) teaching program in place at WWBH ED called the “WESTEND” teaching program to facilitate this, with fortnightly full day sessions run by local FACEMs and specifically aimed at non vocational mid-grade ED medical officers including Rural Generalist and GP trainees. There are 10 hours of paid protected teaching time once a fortnight, along with favourable rostering to attend external courses. There is also the option to do critical care rotations in anaesthesia and ICU, as well as rotations in paediatrics and ultrasound. Research is encouraged and supported by the ED, as is participation in trauma grand rounds and our M&M program. Ongoing career opportunities in the MLHD include transitioning to a permanent ED Career Medical Officer (CMO) and/or a senior ED CMO position which is recognised as a vital role in our local workforce.
WWBH ED also has strong ties to both University of New South Wales and University of Notre Dame Rural Medical Schools, with opportunities to support the student learning experience both within the ED and in an academic post.

The primary purpose of the Trainee - Stage 1 in the Emergency Department is to provide clinical care, under appropriate supervision, to patients requiring emergency medical services in a complex clinical environment. This include both Adult and Paediatric patients. This position will provide experience in a critical care environment and have responsibilities and opportunities for autonomous practice commensurate with the level of experience of the incumbent.
The Trainee - Stage 1 is expected to supervise and participate in teaching Junior Medical Officers and Medical Students, and taking part in research where appropriate.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- Proof of English language proficiency if not Australian University qualified or evidence of completion of English language proficiency to satisfactory requirements within three (3) months of date of application.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team with an understanding of the roles of the doctor and other members of the healthcare team.
- ALS2 certificate preferred or commitment to complete within 12 months of commencing appointment. Blacktown-Mt Druitt Hospital Emergency Departments are part of Network 5 of the NSW Training Program. The hospitals within this Network are Westmead, Nepean, Blacktown, Tweed, Mt Druitt, Auburn, Orange and Children's Hospital Westmead.
The Advanced Trainee in Emergency Medicine may be rotated to any one of the following hospitals:
- Westmead Hospital
- Nepean Hospital
- Westmead Children's Hospital
Other rotations available include: simulation, toxicology, ultrasound, paediatrics, anaesthetics, psychiatry and medicine/surgery.

Wagga Wagga is the largest inland city in NSW, situated in the Riverina area just under five hours’ drive southwest of Sydney, four hours’ north from Melbourne, and just under three hours’ drive west from Canberra. It is a lovely and welcoming, family-friendly city with plenty to see and do. Some examples include the city’s museum, art gallery and Civic Theatre, the Wagga Beach, the Wiradjuri walking track encircling the city, the beautiful Botanical Gardens, along with great boutiques, cafes, restaurants and wineries, good schools, and a local university. We are surrounded by stunning countryside in all directions, with the Snowy Mountains and multiple National Parks all within easy reach. The city itself has a population of approximately 65,000 people. WWBH is the major rural referral hospital for the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD), which services 250,000 people in total across the vast Murrumbidgee area in NSW.
The WWBH ED has over 45000 presentations per year, with a wide variety of cases including general medicine and surgery, obstetrics, orthopaedics, and mental health. Approximately 25% of the ED presentations are paediatrics. One of the many advantages of coming to work in a regional centre is the exposure to rural medicine and procedural skills in a supervised environment, which includes managing significant trauma cases from farming/machinery accidents and MVAs.
WWBH is the regional trauma centre seeing approximately 100 major trauma presentations per year, the regional stroke centre, and the regional PCI centre with 24/7 access to two interventional cardiology labs and interventional radiology services. The ED has 3 resuscitation beds, and acute and subacute / ambulatory care areas. There is a co-located Emergency Department Short Stay Unit (EMU) with 8 monitored beds.
Non vocational ED registrars are rostered to all areas of the ED including EMU, which ensures not only access to the breadth of presentations but makes the most of the opportunities in our procedure rich environment. There is double FACEM cover from 0800-2400 daily with an on-call FACEM overnight.
Opportunities in this role at Wagga include FACEM supervision to complete an ACEM qualification such as the Emergency Medicine Certificate, Diploma and/or the Advanced Diploma. There is an extensive ACEM Emergency Medicine Education and Training (EMET) teaching program in place at WWBH ED called the “WESTEND” teaching program to facilitate this, with fortnightly full day sessions run by local FACEMs and specifically aimed at non vocational mid-grade ED medical officers including Rural Generalist and GP trainees. There are 10 hours of paid protected teaching time once a fortnight, along with favourable rostering to attend external courses. There is also the option to do critical care rotations in anaesthesia and ICU, as well as rotations in paediatrics and ultrasound. Research is encouraged and supported by the ED, as is participation in trauma grand rounds and our M&M program. Ongoing career opportunities in the MLHD include transitioning to a permanent ED Career Medical Officer (CMO) and/or a senior ED CMO position which is recognised as a vital role in our local workforce.
WWBH ED also has strong ties to both University of New South Wales and University of Notre Dame Rural Medical Schools, with opportunities to support the student learning experience both within the ED and in an academic post.

The Marie Bashir Clinical Research Provisional Fellowship in Adolescent Health was named after the former Governor of New South Wales and former Chancellor of the University of Sydney, Professor Marie Bashir. The Marie Bashir Fellowships acknowledge the great role that she played in the development of adolescent mental health services in New South Wales and her abiding concerns for youth health care, particularly for those at the margins of

This Adolescent Research Clinical Provisional Fellow position in Adolescent Health is supported by NSW Health and affiliated with the University of Sydney's Professor of Adolescent Medicine and the Network Head of Adolescent Medicine. The preferred applicant may be considered for the award of a conjoint academic title (levels A to D) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney at a level commensurate with their qualifications and experience. Where you will be working:
Orthopaedics is a growing specialty based on the migration from COVID to the Central Coast as well as our aging population. Challenges arise with trauma, arthroplasty and revision arthroplasty. CCLHD is known as a stable environment well support by the senior medical staff for a trainee to develop their skills clinically and professionally. Being a busy Regional Centre, the focus is on quality care for our patients in a multidisciplinary team.
Gosford Hospital is the principal referral hospital and trauma centre for the Central Coast, with over 500 inpatient beds and 24/7 access to the emergency department and operating theatres. A recent $368 million dollar redevelopment delivered a new emergency department, ICU, nuclear medicine facility, special care nursery and expanded medical imaging services.
Wyong Hospital is an acute major metropolitan hospital with over 300 beds providing inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to residents in the northern region of the Central Coast. A recent $200 million expansion delivered a new emergency department, ICU, paediatric unit, inpatient wards, theatres and expanded medical imaging services.
In conjunction with the University of Newcastle, CCLHD has recently opened the Central Coast Clinical School and Research Institute on the Gosford Hospital campus, providing additional opportunities in training and research.

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category
- Completion of at least three postgraduate years working as a medical officer with demonstrated competence in Orthopaedics and experience in operating theatre and a demonstrated commitment to a career in Orthopaedics.
- Demonstrates ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills (at the required level of competency) and judgment and expertise.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, including providing leadership and direction to ensure appropriate management of patients.
- Demonstrated time management, problem solving skills, excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and computer skills, along with evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education.
- Demonstrated understanding of how the District is Caring for the Coast and how this role would contribute.
- Previous experience in research will be favourable.
