The primary purpose of the role of the Post Graduate Fellow in General Surgery (Acute Care and Emergency Surgery) is to provide a structured post-Fellowship development program for a recently qualified specialist General Surgeon, consolidating advanced clinical skills while developing expertise in emergency surgery leadership, service implementation, clinical governance, education and research.
The Post Graduate Fellow will provide high-quality clinical care, diagnostic and consultative specialty services in General Surgery at the level of a Post Graduate Fellow, and participate in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities within the General Surgery Department and Canterbury Hospital as required. The position will coordinate and support General Surgery Mortality and Morbidity meetings, including preparation of agendas, documentation of minutes, monitoring of actions arising, and support implementation of quality improvement initiatives. They will ensure high standards of professional performance and contribute to an academic environment which supports education, research and professional development.
The Fellow will play a central role in implementing, evaluating and continuously improving Canterbury Hospital's enhanced all-day emergency surgery model. The role will provide senior clinical support for emergency general surgical patients and a key point of liaison between General Surgery, other surgical specialties, Anaesthetics, the Operating Suite, Emergency Department, inpatient units and hospital management. The role also includes coordination of, and participation in, dedicated emergency theatre sessions and general surgical care, together with departmental administrative support, supervision of junior medical officers and medical students, support to coordination and delivery of trainee education, quality improvement and research activities.
The successful applicant will be a current registered Medical practitioner, registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) with recognised qualifications in General Surgery and/or other equivalent specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW Staff Specialists (State) Award.
Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship prior to, or within three months of the expected commencement date, may be considered.
The option of part-time/job share arrangements is available.

The Senior Sonographer performs complex ultrasound procedures with a high level of competency, ensuring quality patient care, efficient scheduling, and effective training of sonographers and students within a structured quality framework. The position will also provide leadership and supervision across the Ultrasound Department daily operations and ensure comprehensive management of Sonographers, including trainee Sonographers.

You will be part of a small innovative team adapting service provision for the Rural/remote context. There is opportunity to gain a wide range of experience in Acute Adult dysphagia, Paediatric feeding, Adult Communication disorders and Paediatric Speech and Language. - Provide assessment and treatment to the adult and paediatric Speech Pathology Services utilising a collaborative practice model in a multidisciplinary team.
- The clinical services span the areas of acute, subacute, outpatient and community.
Outreach and telehealth services may also be components of future services that will be required.
- Degree in Speech Pathology or equivalent as recognised by Speech Pathology Australia and eligibility for practising membership of Speech Pathology Australia, with at least 3 years postgraduate experience and skills in Adult and Paediatric caseloads, with the ability to manage complex conditions.

To provide for the coordination, delivery and evaluation of clinical nurse education (including programs) at the ward/unit level. Such education may include orientation and/or transitioning for new nursing staff, undergraduate and casual nurses as well as meeting the ongoing educational needs of existing nursing staff. The CNE will work in collaboration with the Principal Nurse Educator and Nurse Unit Manager and wider hospital team to develop and implement clinical education programs relevant to the specialties and basic nursing competencies. This is a great opportunity to work in a brand new, purpose-built mental health unit due to open soonat the Shoalhaven Memorial Hospital in 2026. The successful candidate will be required to work at Shellharbour Hospital until the service opens at Shoalhaven Memorial Hospital.
The Mental Health Inpatient Unit at Shoalhaven Memorial Hospital will comprise a 32-bed unit, that will include 4 Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre beds, 16 Acute Mental Health beds and 12 Mental Health Rehabilitation beds, delivering specialist inpatient assessment, treatment, stabilisation and recovery-focused care for adults across the Shoalhaven. This purpose-built Mental Health unit has been designed to support both voluntary and involuntary consumers, providing a modern therapeutic environment that promotes recovery, safety, dignity and family-inclusive practice. Importantly, these beds will form part of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Mental Health Services network bed structure, working in close partnership with Mental Health services across the broader District. Shoalhaven Memorial Hospital is the main referral hospital for the Shoalhaven region , providing emergency care, medical, surgical, mental health and orthopaedic services. The hospital has an Intensive Care Unit focusing on ventilated, high dependency and coronary patients, Children's Ward and Maternity Unit, as well as a purpose-built regional Cancer Care Centre.
The hospital is currently undergoing a significant $440M redevelopment that will redefine how healthcare is delivered within the Region. Once complete in 2026, the new seven-storey Acute Services Building and refurbishments on the current hospital site will bring a focus on career development. allowing you to grow your career, acquire new skills and advance professionally as the hospital continues to develop. Within this redevelopment, a purpose-designed Mental Health Inpatient Unit will open for the first time at Shoalhaven Memorial Hospital, providing local consumers with access to comprehensive inpatient mental health care closer to home.
