The Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS)

The Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS) is a statewide specialist service within PYMHWS, providing expert forensic mental health assessment, consultation, treatment and care coordination for young people aged 10-25 years who are involved in, or at risk of involvement in, the youth justice system.

The Opportunity:

The Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS) is a statewide specialist service within the Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS), providing expert forensic mental health assessment, consultation, treatment and care coordination for young people aged 10-25 years who are involved in, or at risk of involvement in, the youth justice system.

The Nurse Unit Manager (NUM), River Unit, provides senior clinical, operational and nursing leadership for the specialist mental health unit at Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct (CCYJP), supporting young people in Youth Justice custody with complex and/or acute mental health needs.
The NUM is responsible for the safe, effective and high-quality operation of the River Unit, providing leadership, line management and workforce development for nursing staff and working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary FYMHS team, Youth Justice and key health and community partners. The role promotes young person-centred, developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed and culturally safe care, with a focus on clinical excellence, accountability and continuous improvement.

The position is primarily based at Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct, with travel to other PYMHWS and Youth Justice sites as required.

About You:

• Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing or equivalent, or bachelor's degree in nursing.
• Postgraduate Diploma or working towards a Master's degree in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing.
• Registration as a Nurse under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act (2009) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
• A minimum of 5 years' relevant (post-graduation) clinical mental health experience.

Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) is looking for an experienced Psychosocial Health Lead to join our Health, Safety & Wellbeing team and lead the next phase of our psychosocial health and safety program. This is a senior specialist role with genuine organisational scope.

You'll work across clinical, operational and corporate teams to strengthen how we identify, assess and control psychosocial hazards, with a particular focus on work design, occupational violence and aggression, trauma exposure, psychological safety, early intervention and organisational wellbeing.

Rather than focusing on standalone wellbeing initiatives, this role is about building sustainable systems that prevent harm, strengthen recovery and embed psychosocial health and safety into how work is designed, led and delivered.

About the role

As Psychosocial Health Lead, you will provide specialist leadership across PYMHWS's approach to psychological health and safety.

You will:

• Lead organisation-wide psychosocial hazard identification, risk assessment and control.
• Work with leaders, workers and Health and Safety Representatives to understand how psychosocial risks arise in practice.
• Support analysis of workload, work design, staffing, systems, organisational change and other drivers of psychosocial risk.
• Lead the development and monitoring of psychosocial risk registers, control plans and improvement actions.
• Provide specialist expertise in occupational violence, aggression and trauma-related psychosocial risk.
• Support psychologically safe work practices and organisational wellbeing initiatives.

You will bring:

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work, occupational health and safety, human resources, organisational development, wellbeing or a related discipline.

• Strong knowledge of Victorian occupational health and safety legislation and psychosocial risk requirements.

About the Role:

The Senior Clinician provides clinical care and coordination at a senior level within the Early Psychosis team supporting young people aged 12-25 at ultra-high risk of developing psychosis or experiencing a first episode of psychosis, who may also present with a range of comorbid mental health issues.

Provide leadership within a multidisciplinary team delivering evidence-based interventions, supporting a multidisciplinary clinical team with supervision, training, and clinical governance responsibilities.

Provide comprehensive mental health and risk assessments, case management, and evidence-based psychological interventions to young people and their families.

What You'll Do:

• Provide leadership, supervision, and participate in clinical governance processes for a clinical sub-team within the Early Psychosis program
• Manage and undertake mental health and risk assessments, formulations, individual service plans, psychological treatment, crisis interventions, and family work and systems containment

• Partner in service innovation, working closely with the Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) to implement, evaluate, and continuously improve the MHICAR response to acute deterioration.
• Champion best practice frameworks, actively embedding the DHHS Reducing Restrictive Interventions framework into everyday care and shaping a safer, more therapeutic ward culture.

About You:

• Registered with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse
• Postgraduate Diploma or Masters in Mental Health Nursing
• A minimum of 5 years' previous experience in nursing practice within the mental health field, including young people experiencing mental health disorders.
• Expertise in the provision of acute care with young people from a range of backgrounds and diagnoses; including, risk assessment, mental state assessment, psychoeducation related to illness, care coordination, and partnering with young people and family/carers.
• Advanced knowledge and skills in trauma-informed care, sensory modulation and SafeWards.
• Recent experience in a nursing leadership role, RPN3 or above.
• Ability to physically participate in being a credentialed MOCA (Management of Clinical Aggression) trainer to Foundation level.

The Opportunity

The Occupational Violence & Aggression (OVA) Projects Lead leads the development, implementation and continuous improvement of a coordinated, prevention-focused approach to occupational violence and aggression across PYMHWS. The role works in close partnership with clinical and operational teams to translate risk, incident experience, evidence and frontline insight into practical programs of work that improve staff and young person safety. The role supports implementation across all PYMHWS services and sites, ensuring initiatives are tailored to local clinical contexts, embedded into day-to-day practice and evaluated for impact.

What You'll Do Lead OVA Improvement

• Lead a focused program of work to strengthen the prevention and management of occupational violence and aggression across PYMHWS.
• Translate identified risks, incident learnings, staff experience and data into practical, prioritised improvement actions.
• Coordinate priority OVA projects from design through to implementation, evaluation and sustained practice change.

Work Alongside Our Clinical Teams

• Partner closely with clinical and operational leaders, frontline staff and Health and Safety Representatives to understand how OVA risk presents across different services and settings.
• Co-design solutions that are practical, proportionate and workable in real clinical environments.
• Support teams to embed changes into everyday practice rather than creating stand alone safety processes.

Strengthen Our Controls

• Review OVA risks and the effectiveness of existing controls across PYMHWS sites and services.
• Support improvements to areas such as duress and emergency communication, work design, escalation processes, environmental controls, security interfaces and post-incident response.
• Identify systemic gaps and opportunities to strengthen prevention-focused controls and reduce risk at the source.

Build Capability and Confidence

• Work with clinical educators, leaders and subject matter experts to strengthen OVA capability across the workforce.
• Develop practical guidance, resources and targetted education based on the risks staff are actually experiencing.
• Support local champions and implementation leads to build sustainable OVA practices within their teams.

Use Data to Drive Action

• Bring together incident data, risk assessments, workforce experience and clinical context to identify patterns, hotspots and emerging risks.
• Develop meaningful measures to understand whether OVA initiatives and controls are making a difference.
• Translate insights into clear recommendations, priorities and improvement activity.

Create Sustainable Systems

• Help develop and strengthen PYMHWS's OVA framework, procedures, tools and governance arrangements.
• Monitor implementation of agreed actions and provide clear reporting on progress, risks and outcomes.
• Connect OVA work occurring across different services into a consistent, organisation-wide approach that can be sustained beyond the six-month project period.

About You

• Strong OVA knowledge and an understanding of risk, prevention and control in healthcare or another complex environment.
• Experience leading improvement projects and turning plans into practical, sustainable change.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with clinical teams, leaders and HSRs.
• Good risk and systems thinking, with the ability to identify patterns, priorities and practical solutions.
• Confidence using data and evidence to inform decisions and evaluate improvement.
• A practical, adaptable approach and the ability to work across multiple services and sites.
• A genuine commitment to staff and young person safety and to creating safer systems of work.

About the Role

This is a Full Time Fixed Term position at 80 hours per fortnight within the Parkville EMR Service contracted to 26th March 2027. You will be responsible for maintaining the education systems to support the business as usual function for the EMR. You will play an integral role leading the design and development of the EMR software upgrade impacts, quality and function of MST and educational materials including tip sheets, eLearnings and other materials that are generic to all four hospitals. You will be responsible for maintaining MST, which is the Epic training environment, which is integral to onboarding and ongoing education executed by Parkville hospitals.

Classification for this position will range from AO71 - AO75 (base salary $111,103.20 to $121,274.40 per annum, plus superannuation).

What You'll Achieve

• Lead the MST and training environment strategy which will include maintenance and build, access and training in MST (Epic's Training environment)
• Develop and implement a customer driven process to identify EMR upgrade and enhancement impacts for end users
• Develop and maintain consistent, online learning resources to support onboarding and optimisation education in collaboration with Parkville health services. This may include tip sheets, eLearnings and supporting course materials

Your Skills and Experience

• Degree or higher in a relevant area or an equivalent combination of relevant experience, education and/or training
• Ability and experience in instructional, multimedia design and developing learning and teaching resources
• Proven ability and experience in using a range of technologies including learning management systems
