Job Description:
About the Role
This Fellowship offers exposure to a high-volume tertiary epilepsy service, comprehensive multidisciplinary epilepsy care, advanced neurophysiology, epilepsy surgery assessment, cutting-edge neuroimaging, and academic research. Graduates of the Fellowship will be well prepared for consultant practice in epilepsy, clinical neurophysiology, and academic neurology, and for leadership roles within tertiary neuroscience services in Australia and internationally.
This fellowship provides advanced supervised training in the diagnosis and management of epilepsy and seizure disorders within one of Australia's leading tertiary epilepsy services. The successful applicant will develop expertise in the assessment and management of patients with epilepsy across inpatient and outpatient settings while contributing to teaching, research, clinical governance and quality improvement activities.
The Fellow will have the opportunity to gain experience in:
- Provide comprehensive assessment and management of patients with epilepsy across specialist outpatient clinics, inpatient consultations, video-EEG monitoring, and intensive care settings, including first seizure and refractory epilepsy.
- Participate in multidisciplinary epilepsy care, including epilepsy case conferences, epilepsy surgery assessment, and invasive stereo-EEG (SEEG) evaluation.
- Interpret prolonged ambulatory EEG and other specialised investigations relevant to epilepsy diagnosis and management, including MRI, high-density EEG, SPECT, PET, neuropsychology, and MEG.
- Contribute to clinical research, quality improvement activities, and the ongoing development of epilepsy services.
- Participate in the teaching, supervision, and education of medical, nursing, and allied health staff within the Department of Clinical Neurosciences.
Classification for this role is HM25-HM30 ($129,048.40 - $177,622.12
per annum).
This is a full-time, fixed-term position from February 2027 to February 2028.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Appointees must be legally qualified medical practitioners, registered or registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Basic Medical Degree.
- Completion of, or advanced training in, Adult Neurology.
- Indemnification with a recognised/approved medical defence association.
- Compliance with the RACP Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program.
- Demonstrated interest in epilepsy, clinical neurophysiology or a career in epilepsy.
- Excellent communication and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
- Commitment to teaching and continuing professional development.

The Epilepsy Program at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne is one of Australia's leading tertiary epilepsy services, providing comprehensive assessment and management of adults with epilepsy, including complex epilepsy, refractory epilepsy, epilepsy surgery, neurostimulation therapies and clinical trials. The multidisciplinary team includes epileptologists, neurosurgeons, neuropsychologists, neurophysiologists, specialist nurses, neuroradiologists and allied health professionals working collaboratively to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.
