DescriptionHead of Supported Independent Living
About Australian Mentoring Services (AMS)
At Australian Mentoring Services (AMS), we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live a meaningful life with dignity, purpose and connection.
We support people with complex disabilities, mental health conditions and forensic backgrounds to build independence, strengthen relationships and reconnect with their communities. We don't believe in taking the easy path-we believe in supporting people others often won't.
As we continue to grow across New South Wales, we are looking for an experienced executive leader who can see the bigger picture, develop high-performing leaders, and help shape the future of our Supported Independent Living services.
About the Role
Your focus will be on building leadership capability to continue to develop high quality outcomes for participants and employees
As the Head of Supported Independent Living, you will provide strategic leadership across our SIL portfolio, leading a team of Regional Managers to deliver exceptional outcomes for both participants and employees.
Your focus will be on building leadership capability rather than stepping into day-to-day service delivery. You will create the systems, culture and direction that allow your leaders to succeed while ensuring our services continue to grow sustainably, safely and in line with our values.
You will work closely with the Executive Leadership Team to drive continuous improvement, identify opportunities for growth, strengthen operational performance and ensure our services remain sector-leading.
This role requires someone who enjoys thinking strategically, solving complex organisational challenges and developing people into exceptional leaders.
This is a full-time position requiring travel across our Supported Independent Living services throughout the Sydney Basin.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership across the Supported Independent Living portfolio.
- Lead, coach and develop Regional Managers and Practice Leaders into confident, capable leaders.
- Create a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Drive operational excellence while maintaining a strong participant-centred approach.
- Partner with Executive Leadership to support organisational growth and cross team collaboration.
- Monitor financial performance, workforce capability and service quality across the division.
- Ensure compliance with the NDIS Practice Standards, legislation and organisational governance.
- Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes and service delivery.
- Build strong relationships with participants, families, guardians, government agencies and key stakeholders.
- Champion innovation and lead organisational change initiatives.
About You
You are an experienced executive leader who understands that your greatest impact comes through developing others.
Rather than solving every problem yourself, you empower your leaders to make decisions, build capability and achieve outstanding outcomes.
You are commercially minded, strategically focused and passionate about creating services that genuinely improve people's lives.
You will bring:
- At least five years' experience in a senior leadership or executive role within disability, community services, health or a related sector.
- Demonstrated experience leading multiple teams through senior leaders.
- Proven ability to drive organisational growth and implement strategic initiatives.
- Strong financial and operational management capability.
- Experience leading organisational change and continuous improvement.
- Exceptional leadership, coaching and mentoring skills.
- Outstanding communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship-building abilities.
- A strong understanding of the NDIS, quality standards and legislative requirements.
Experience supporting people with complex disability, psychosocial disability, autism, forensic disability, mental illness or high-intensity supports will be highly regarded.
Why Join AMS?
At AMS, you'll join an organisation that genuinely values innovation, leadership and doing things differently.
You'll have the opportunity to influence the direction of a growing organisation, develop exceptional leaders, and create lasting outcomes for the people we support.
This is an opportunity to make an impact well beyond the day-to-day-helping shape the future of Supported Independent Living across our organisation.
Australian Mentoring Services is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disability and people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

It's one of the most sought-after stretches of coastline in the country, with a genuine, close-knit community feel, right on the NSW-Queensland border. You're about 20 minutes from the Gold Coast and around 15 minutes' drive from Gold Coasts International Airport, so family and friends can visit easily, and a flight home is never far away. We've looked after Kingscliff families since 1969, from the Kingscliff Professional Centre on Pearl Street, right in the heart of town. We're dentist-owned, so the clinical calls stay with the clinicians, and you've got the backing of a network of more than 12 practices behind you. The team here is well established: a hygienist, an oral health therapist and an on-site prosthetist work alongside the dentists, so you're well supported and can refer in-house. We're offering a relocation package to the successful candidate, the details to be confirmed with you directly. If you've been ready to trade the Sydney grind for a genuine coastal life without losing your career momentum, this is a rare chance to have both.
About the roleThis is a role for a general dentist, full-time or part-time, the rostered days can be flexible to suit you. You'll step into an established book with a steady flow of patients, so you're busy from the start without building from scratch. We're a preferred provider for most major health funds, which keeps that flow consistent. A good day here looks like confident, comprehensive care across a broad general scope, patients who come back and bring their family, and a calm, well-run surgery around you.
What you'll be doing- Assessing, diagnosing and treating patients across a broad general scope
- Delivering preventative, restorative, endodontic, surgical, periodontal and prosthodontic care
- Using CEREC for same-day crowns, and CBCT, where they help you deliver better care
- Talking patients through their options clearly, so they understand the plan and the cost up front
- Working closely with your assistant and reception team to keep the day running smoothly
- Working within the codes and guidelines of the Dental Board of Australia
- Current AHPRA registration as a dentist, or eligible for registration, plus indemnity insurance
- Sound clinical judgement across everyday general dentistry
- Easy to work with: warm with patients, steady with the team
- Experience with CEREC for same-day dentistry (preferable but not essential)
- CBCT licence, or willingness to obtain one
- Open to relocating from Sydney, or anywhere else, to the NSW Far North Coast
- A genuinely broad case mix across all ages, from everyday general care through to implants and Invisalign
- No KPIs or financial targets: how you build your day and your patient relationships is up to you
- Uncapped, performance-based commission: what you earn scales with what you bill, some of our dentists bill well into seven figures a year
- Dentist-owned, so you keep your clinical autonomy with the backing of a 12-practice network, plus mentorship from more than 70 clinicians and study clubs streamed live and recorded for playback
- Backed by a group marketing team bringing new patients through the door, so you're stepping into a modern, high-performing practice, not building one from scratch
- A relocation package to help make the move, right into a coastal life that's a short walk to the beach, Pearl Street cafes and the weekend markets. Details confirmed once we've found the right person
