- In this role, you will deliver contemporary, evidence based orthopaedic surgical services that ensure safe, high quality, patient centred care across MLHD, while providing clinical leadership and actively contributing to patient safety, quality improvement, and risk management initiatives.

Remuneration and incentives
Remuneration depends on your appointment type, award classification, and scope of practice. The figures below are indicative only and represent what may be earned under applicable NSW Health awards and local arrangements.
Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) Specialist
- Fee-for-Service arrangements follow the Visiting Medical Officer (State) Award and the Public Hospitals VMO Determination.
- Payments are based on item numbers, service volumes, and rural loadings rather than a fixed hourly or annual figure.

WSLHD - Senior Registrar - Melanoma and Surgical Oncology - Westmead Hospital
Westmead Hospital is a key facility of one of Australia's largest major health and medical research precincts and is the principal referral hospital for Western Sydney Local Health District providing district level health services to Parramatta, Holroyd and The Hills Shire LGAs including tertiary and quaternary services to greater western Sydney, greater metropolitan Sydney, rural NSW and other states. Westmead Hospital provides approximately 638 acute overnight, 30 day only and 52 subacute beds. The Westmead Health Precinct currently under development is envisaged to be the biggest hospital building project undertaken in Western Sydney and will transform the iconic but ageing Westmead Hospital into an innovative, contemporary and integrated centre that will continue to deliverhigh quality healthcare and expand the education, health and research capability of the area.
Westmead Hospital is a leading centre of research, training and specialisations in all fields of medicine and dentistry, providing services in cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, kidney and pancreas transplantation, cancer care, obstetrics and gynaecology, neonatal intensive care, trauma, bone marrow transplantation, critical care, aged care and rehabilitation, adult acute psychiatry (networked with the co-located Cumberland Hospital) as well as other highly specialised medical and surgical services.
The Westmead Hospital Emergency Department (ED) operates 24 hours, 7 days per week and manages all types and levels of illnesses and injuries. As one of six major trauma centres in the state, the ED also cares for people with the most severe physical injuries.
Westmead Hospital ED presentation numbers are among the highest in the state. Critical care services within Westmead Hospital are provided by the Intensive care unit and the medical and surgical high dependency units. Other specialist services that provide a high dependency level of care for patients within their clinical specialty wards include the Coronary Care Unit, Renal and Pancreas Transplantation and Haematology.
Over 120 different outpatient clinics for a number of different specialities and services provide ambulatory care to approximately 5,000 attendances per month.
The Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre Westmead is a purpose-built state of the art facility based at Westmead Hospital. The Centre provides fully integrated research, prevention, diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation programs for patients and families coping with cancer. Palliative care and symptom control support, genetic counselling via the familial cancer service and Psych Oncology support via an onsite psychiatrist and psychologists is also provided at the Cancer Centre. A significant number of clinical trials are available for our patients when appropriate and we have the support of dedicated cancer laboratories undertaking current cancer research. The Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre is a statewide referral centre for Blood Transplant and Cellular Therapies. Our model of care includes a large number of tumour specific multi-disciplinary teams.
Westmead Hospital is one of Australia's largest centres for postgraduate training to specialist levels in all fields with over 100 PhD students and other postgraduate students supervised by Westmead Hospital scientists and clinicians. Westmead is home to internationally recognised institutes of health research, the most prominent being the Westmead Millennium Institute. The Westmead Millennium Institute is one of the largest medical research institutes in Australia, conducting research into a wide range of human disorders affecting both adults and children, including infectious and immune diseases, cancer and leukaemia, liver and metabolic diseases, eye and brain related disorders and heart and respiratory disorders.
What you'll be doing
- Provision of surgical services, including inpatient and outpatient care of surgical oncology unit patients, undergraduate/postgraduate teaching and research.
- Involvement in MDT meetings for sarcoma, non-melanoma skin cancer, melanoma and thyroid cancer.
- Participation in the roster for on-call for the Acute Surgical Unit.
- Involvement in audit meetings for the Department and General Surgery.
- Responsibility for the maintenance of quality of all aspects of service delivery and the efficient use of resources within Western Sydney Local Health District.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Must have obtained fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) or equivalent
- Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices that support credentialing to the position and are commensurate with the scope of practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.
- Sound clinical knowledge and experience in general surgery/ head and neck surgery/surgical oncology
- Familiarity with the natural history and biological behaviour of melanoma, non- melanoma skin cancer (NMSC), thyroid cancer, sarcoma and malignancy of the head and neck.
- High level interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence based best practice. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision.
- Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.

About the teamYou'll join a team of nine, including another Manager responsible for the health economics stream. The majority of the team are HTA researchers, working across a range of clinical evaluation and evidence synthesis projects. The team works primarily with governments, including the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, as well as international funders. Projects include de novo HTAs, evaluation of submitted HTAs and development of HTA protocols. You'll work closely with colleagues across RACS, including research and clinical leaders, as well as external clients, funders, medical colleges, specialty societies, clinicians and research partners.
About youYou're an experienced HTA researcher and people leader who combines strong technical expertise with the ability to manage projects, people and stakeholder relationships.
You'll bring:
- Strong experience in health technology assessment, clinical evaluation or evidence synthesis, with highly developed clinical assessment and critical appraisal skills.
- Experience leading a program of projects, including planning, prioritisation, resource allocation and budget management.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to work confidently with clients, funders, clinicians and other external stakeholders.
- Experience leading, coaching and developing a specialist team.

Successful applicants will function as a junior consultant in the selection surgical unit and function as the bridge between the junior surgical staff and senior surgical leadership. It is expected that the successful applicant will manage the day-to-day junior surgical staff rostering and well-being provision.
Applicants expecting to be awarded fellowship within 6 months are eligible to apply
The position will be for a period of twelve months for the 2027 Clinical Year.

Essential Requirements
1.Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award/ Health Insurance Act 1997. What You'll be doing
Provide clinical management and treatment of patients in a SWSLHD facility under your care. This care will be provided within the clinical privileges granted by the CE on the advice of the SWSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.As one of the Staff Specialists in this Unit, you will primarily take part in the clinical duties of the TACS unit and cover Trauma and ASU (Acute Surgical Unit) as well as participate in the General Surgery on call after hours roster.Coordination and management of the acute resuscitation and treatment of multiple injured patients, emergency general surgery patients and coordination of acute care between multiple services and disciplines is a major focus of the role.You will also be expected to assist the department in the running of Trauma, General Surgery, and Acute Surgery clinics as well as participate in unit elective and emergency surgical operating lists.

Where you'll be working
Westmead Hospital is a key facility of one of Australia’s largest major health and medical research precincts and is the principal referral hospital for Western Sydney Local Health District providing district level health services to Parramatta, Holroyd and The Hills Shire LGAs including tertiary and quaternary services to greater western Sydney, greater metropolitan Sydney, rural NSW and other states. Westmead Hospital provides approximately 638 acute overnight, 30 day only and 52 subacute beds. The Westmead Health Precinct currently under development is envisaged to be the biggest hospital building project undertaken in Western Sydney and will transform the iconic but ageing Westmead Hospital into an innovative, contemporary and integrated centre that will continue to deliverhigh quality healthcare and expand the education, health and research capability of the area.
Westmead Hospital is a leading centre of research, training and specialisations in all fields of medicine and dentistry, providing services in cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, kidney and pancreas transplantation, cancer care, obstetrics and gynaecology, neonatal intensive care, trauma, bone marrow transplantation, critical care, aged care and rehabilitation, adult acute psychiatry (networked with the co-located Cumberland Hospital) as well as other highly specialised medical and surgical services.
The Westmead Hospital Emergency Department (ED) operates 24 hours, 7 days per week and manages all types and levels of illnesses and injuries. As one of six major trauma centres in the state, the ED also cares for people with the most severe physical injuries.
Westmead Hospital ED presentation numbers are among the highest in the state. Critical care services within Westmead Hospital are provided by the Intensive care unit and the medical and surgical high dependency units. Other specialist services that provide a high dependency level of care for patients within their clinical specialty wards include the Coronary Care Unit, Renal and Pancreas Transplantation and Haematology.
Over 120 different outpatient clinics for a number of different specialities and services provide ambulatory care to approximately 5,000 attendances per month.
The Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre Westmead is a purpose-built state of the art facility based at Westmead Hospital. The Centre provides fully integrated research, prevention, diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation programs for patients and families coping with cancer. Palliative care and symptom control support, genetic counselling via the familial cancer service and Psych Oncology support via an onsite psychiatrist and psychologists is also provided at the Cancer Centre. A significant number of clinical trials are available for our patients when appropriate and we have the support of dedicated cancer laboratories undertaking current cancer research. The Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre is a statewide referral centre for Blood Transplant and Cellular Therapies. Our model of care includes a large number of tumour specific multi-disciplinary teams.
Westmead Hospital is one of Australia’s largest centres for postgraduate training to specialist levels in all fields with over 100 PhD students and other postgraduate students supervised by Westmead Hospital scientists and clinicians. What you'll be doing
WSLHD - Senior Registrar - Melanoma and Surgical Oncology - Westmead Hospital
- Provision of surgical services, including inpatient and outpatient care of surgical oncology unit patients, undergraduate/postgraduate teaching and research.
-Involvement in MDT meetings for sarcoma, non-melanoma skin cancer, melanoma and thyroid cancer.
-Participation in the roster for on-call for the Acute Surgical Unit.
-Involvement in audit meetings for the Department and General Surgery
-Responsibility for the maintenance of quality of all aspects of service delivery and the efficient use of resources within Western Sydney Local Health District.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Must have obtained fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) or equivalent
- Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices that support credentialing to the position and are commensurate with the scope of practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.

The successful applicant will be committed to delivering high-quality, patient- and family-centred care. This includes maintaining clear communication with clinicians across the organisation and with external medical practitioners, ensuring timely treatment planning, effective patient handover and transfer of care. A high standard of clinical documentation is expected, including appropriate use of the electronic medical record, role-based messaging and departmental databases. The Fellow will provide reliable and responsive on-call services, attending within thirty minutes of call or within a timeframe consistent with the needs of the specialty as approved by the facility.
The Fellow will contribute to an intellectual environment that supports high-quality medical research, applying evidence-based principles to clinical practice and participating in approved research and audit activities such as NSQIP and the ANZ Emergency Laparotomy Audit, while encouraging peers, registrars and resident medical officers to do likewise. They will organise and deliver education sessions, teach effectively at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and provide "on the job" training during ward rounds, clinics and operating sessions. Supervision and mentorship of medical students, junior medical staff and trainees is a core expectation, including regular teaching in line with HETI guidelines and participation in staff appraisal. Finally, the Fellow will demonstrate a strong commitment to quality and continuous improvement by supporting a "no blame" culture and actively engaging in clinical governance, risk management, audit, peer review, morbidity and mortality meetings, adverse event monitoring, root cause analysis, and clinical practice improvement projects aimed at enhancing service delivery and patient care.

Essential Requirements:
1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award/ Health Insurance Act 1997. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.
2. Sound clinical knowledge in emergency General Surgery demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position. Sub-specialty focus in an area of general surgery (especially colorectal, oesophago-gastric, hepatobiliary, hernia) advantageous
3. Demonstrated commitment to the maintenance and further development of skills applicable to General Surgery, including involvement in further education and quality assurance activities.
4. A commitment to the provision of teaching including medical, nursing and allied health professional staff.
5. Demonstrated commitment to research.
Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership where required
Selection Criteria :

About the opportunity
The General Surgeon provides surgical and endoscopy services to Werribee Mercy Hospital (WMH) and participates within the surgical team for on call services to the hospital on a rotational basis.

Launceston Arthroplasty and Trauma Fellowship Fellowship Overview - The Role & Team The Launceston Arthroplasty and Trauma Fellowship is a 12-month post-FRACS fellowship based primarily at Launceston General Hospital (LGH), with additional clinical experience within the private hospital system in Launceston. The Fellowship provides advanced clinical and operative training in primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty, complex knee surgery (soft tissue and osteotomy) and orthopaedic trauma, together with opportunities in clinical research, teaching and professional development. The Fellow will work within the LGH Orthopaedic Unit alongside nine Australian Orthopaedic Association-accredited orthopaedic surgeons. The consultant group has broad lower-limb, upper-limb and trauma expertise, providing exposure to a diverse range of elective and emergency orthopaedic practice. Clinical and Operative Training The Fellowship provides substantial operative exposure across both elective and trauma surgery. Clinical experience will include: Primary hip and knee arthroplasty Complex and revision arthroplasty Knee reconstruction and complex knee pathology Orthopaedic trauma Periprosthetic fractures and complications of arthroplasty Periprosthetic joint infection Pre-operative assessment, surgical decision-making and postoperative management Outpatient assessment and longitudinal follow-up of elective and trauma patients Education and Teaching The Fellow will participate in the academic activities of the LGH Orthopaedic Department, including: Weekly orthopaedic radiology/X-ray and clinical meetings Case discussions and operative planning Teaching of orthopaedic trainees, junior medical staff and medical students Departmental educational activities Opportunities to participate in University of Tasmania undergraduate and postgraduate teaching The Fellowship is intended not only to develop technical surgical expertise, but also clinical judgement, decision-making, leadership, teaching and the skills required for independent consultant practice. Research Clinical research is an important component of the Fellowship. The Fellow will be encouraged to participate in existing research programs and to develop a research project aligned with their own clinical interests. The Launceston Orthopaedic unit has an active research program encompassing arthroplasty, trauma, periprosthetic joint infection, patient-reported outcomes, surgical technology and orthopaedic education. Research opportunities are supported through collaboration with the University of Tasmania and the Clifford Craig Foundation, as well as participation in multicentre and registry-based research. The expectation is that the Fellow will contribute meaningfully to at least one research project during the Fellowship, with the aim of presentation at a scientific meeting and, where appropriate, peer-reviewed publication. Fellowship Objective The overall objective of the Launceston Arthroplasty and Trauma Fellowship is to provide a broad but individually tailored transition from specialist orthopaedic training to independent consultant practice, with particular expertise in hip and knee arthroplasty, complex knee surgery and orthopaedic trauma. By completion of the Fellowship, the Fellow should have developed increased operative independence, sound clinical judgement in complex elective and trauma cases, experience in teaching and research, and the skills required to establish and contribute to a high-quality contemporary orthopaedic practice.
