You will lead the Quality Management System across MDU PHL, shaping safe, robust public health laboratory services. You will partner with scientific and IT leaders to embed digital, data-driven and AI-enabled quality improvements.
What you will deliver:
- Lead, maintain, and continuously improve the Quality Management System, aligning with ISO and NATA requirements.
- Design and implement quality frameworks, audits, and corrective actions that strengthen compliance across MDU PHL services.
- Provide expert advice, training and mentorship on quality systems to staff and partner laboratories, locally and internationally.
- Collaborate with IT and scientific leads to deliver digital, data-informed and AI-enabled operational improvements.
- Support broader laboratory operations, governance and risk management, including performance monitoring and stakeholder engagement.
You may be a great fit if you:
- Hold a science or applied science degree and extensive experience with laboratory quality management systems.
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of ISO17025, ISO15189, NATA accreditation and microbiology regulatory requirements, including DAFF and SSBA.
- Leverage data, systems, and reporting tools to identify insights and drive efficiency in quality and compliance.
- Build strong relationships across scientific, technical and external stakeholder groups.
- Manage competing priorities with exceptional time management, analytical skills, and meticulous attention to regulatory detail.
- Utilise advanced computer literacy and quality or business systems, ideally including digital automation and emerging AI tools.

ResponsibilitiesYour responsibilities will include: Lead integrated operational management across administration, research services and teaching support for the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. Working closely with the Head of Department, develop and implement strategic and operational plans, performance measures and resource models aligned with School and Faculty priorities. Oversee budgeting, financial monitoring and modelling, providing timely advice to the Head of Department and School Manager regarding interventions to manage risk and support decision-making for optimal outcomes. Manage infrastructure, space planning and laboratory-related operational matters, including supporting a major new building's operational readiness. Build strong relationships across the School, Faculty, Doherty Institute and shared services to coordinate collaborative, compliant service delivery.
Fit for the role- Hold postgraduate qualifications, or significant equivalent experience, gained in large, complex organisations or research-intensive environments.
- Demonstrate proven operational leadership in laboratory-based, medical research, hospital or tertiary education settings.
- Bring extensive financial management capability, including budgeting, forecasting, modelling and advising on resource allocation and risk.
- Manage infrastructure, space planning and laboratory operations issues, negotiating practical, compliant solutions with diverse stakeholders.
- Lead inclusive, collaborative teams, creating positive, imaginative cultures that enhance both staff and student experiences.
