At Nexus Hospitals, we believe every patient deserves the quality and comfort of world-class care, right in their own community. We also believe that every team member deserves a life that keeps them at their best.
With a proud, growing network of 21 specialist hospitals across Australia, we offer the scale, stability and impact of a national healthcare leader, but with the tight-knit heart of a local team. By focusing on elective, day and short-stay surgeries, we provide our nursing teams with a healthier work rhythm, so you can build a career you'll be proud of without sacrificing what matters most to you.
Join us and discover a workplace built for humans - where world-class care meets a world-class life.
About our hospital:
Hobart Day Surgery is a purpose-built, multidisciplinary day surgery, specialising in Ophthalmology, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dental, Oral/ Maxillofacial, Urology and IVF. Our hospital combines specialised surgical services, excellent facilities and a team of highly skilled professionals that care for our patients.
As Tasmania's only standalone, multidisciplinary day hospital, we are committed to providing safe and affordable same-day surgery, and an excellent experience for our patients and surgeons. Hobart Day Surgery is a centre of Ophthalmology excellence.
Your opportunity:
As a Nurse Unit Manager, you are the heartbeat of our team, bringing our mission of the best possible care to life. You'll support the smooth running of our facility by driving clinical excellence and patient safety at every stage of their journey. Through close collaboration with our multidisciplinary team, you'll ensure outcomes that are positive, reliable and centred on the person in front of you.
The Nurse Unit Manager role is on a full time basis.
With respect and collaboration, you will:
- Drive quality and safety improvement: Support the GM/ DON with quality and safety activities, helping embed continuous improvement, evidence-based and safe practice and clinical excellence across the hospital.
- Support operational performance: Assist the GM/ DON with resources, rostering, procurement, administration, quality and safety activities.
- Educate, mentor and lead: Provide guidance, coaching and leadership to the team.
- Keep patient safety central: Maintain clear communication with the team and respond proactively to risks, changes or concerns.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships: Develop positive working relationships with Visiting Medical Officers, patients, colleagues and other key stakeholders.
- Champion patient-centred care: Help create a culture of excellence where patients receive consistent, compassionate care throughout their journey.
Who we're looking for:
You are a compassionate and dedicated professional who pairs clinical excellence with a genuinely warm, patient-first approach. You thrive in a collaborative, down to earth environment and take real pride in the high standard of care you provide.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Strong Perioperative experience in a leadership role
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
- Postgraduate qualifications relevant to the role, or a commitment to working towards them.
- A demonstrated commitment to education, mentoring and clinical leadership.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, doctors, colleagues and key stakeholders.
- Strong organisational, time management, leadership and communication skills.
- Strong experience supporting quality improvement, work health and safety, infection prevention and control, operational and accreditation activities
- Advanced clinical and technical capability, supported by sound problem-solving skills.
We'd love it if you also had:
- Experience in our hospital's specialties.
- Experience in a fast-paced day or short-stay hospital environment.
Don't quite tick all the boxes? At Nexus, what matters most is your strong patient focus and commitment to exceptional care. If that sounds like you, we still encourage you to apply.
Why Nexus?
We know that to give your best to our patients, you need a workplace that truly backs you. We've built an environment where you are recognised as a whole person - never just a number or a name on a roster.
At Nexus, healthcare is always personal. With us, you'll:
- Bring world-class care home to your community: Help us provide a level of care you'd trust for yourself and your family. The kind you can truly be proud of.
- Join a team that has your back and keeps you strong: Our teams are high performing but incredibly down to earth. Here, people know your name, treat you warmly and are genuinely keen to connect.
- Seize the growth that's yours for the taking: Don't wait for permission to move forward - just ask! Every day, you'll find new ways to step up and shape the career you want.
- Get the support you need for the life you want: We respect your time as much as your dedication and expertise. You'll enjoy a predictable schedule with the time you need to rest and recharge.
You'll also enjoy a range of other benefits, including:
- Better rosters: Predictable schedules with no weekend shifts, giving you the freedom to plan your life.
- Time to recharge: 5 weeks of annual leave to rest and reset.
- The ultimate Christmas break: Up to 3 weeks off over the festive season during our extended hospital closure.
- Health & wellbeing: Gym discounts via Fitness Passport and free, confidential counselling through our EAP
- Healthcare discounts: Substantial savings on surgical procedures at Nexus facilities for you and your family
- Everyday savings: Exclusive online rewards and discounts across major national retailers.
