Registered Nurse - Special Care Nursery
Sydney Local Health District View all jobs
Posted 6 day(s) ago
Reference: 2454821
Employment Type: Permanent Full Time or Part Time (Minimum 16 hours per week)
Position Classification: Registered Nurse
Remuneration: $41.22 - $57.88 per hour + annual leave loading
Location:Canterbury Hospital
Requisition ID: REQ704680
Are you a Registered Nurse who loves caring for newborns and their families?
Our 8-bed, Level 3 Special Care Nursery at Canterbury Hospital is looking for compassionate, motivated nurses to join a close-knit team where you’ll be known, supported and given room to grow.
About our nursery
We sit right next to Waratah, our maternity unit. That means you’ll work side by side with our midwives every day, sharing knowledge, supporting each other and caring for babies and families together. We work closely with RPA Newborn Care for transfers and back-transfers. This gives you exposure to babies at different stages of their journey and strong links with one of Australia’s leading neonatal services.
Canterbury is also an exciting place to be right now. With major investment committed to upgraded maternity and Special Care Nursery facilities, this is a great time to join and help shape the future of our service.
Our community
Canterbury Hospital serves one of Sydney’s most culturally diverse communities. Many of our families come from multicultural, refugee and migrant backgrounds. Every day you’ll provide care that is culturally safe, respectful and centred on the family. For many nurses, this is one of the most rewarding parts of working here.
Learning and development
You’ll be supported by a dedicated Clinical Nurse Educator and given real opportunities to upskill across different areas of neonatal care. We encourage questions, learning from each other and building your confidence at your own pace. For those looking ahead, NSW Health offers clear pathways into Clinical Nurse Specialist, Clinical Nurse Educator, Clinical Nurse Consultant and Nurse Unit Manager roles. Our manager is always happy to talk through your next steps.
New starters
You’ll receive an orientation to the nursery, SLHD policies, clinical practices and team processes. Experienced colleagues will guide you while you settle in. Nobody is expected to know everything on day one.
Our team
We’re a supportive, welcoming team that values teamwork, open communication and mutual respect. We work closely with paediatricians, obstetric staff, midwives and allied health, including social work and lactation support, to achieve the best outcomes for babies and families.
Who would love it here?
A Registered Nurse who is passionate about neonatal and family-centred care, enjoys a smaller unit where everyone knows each other, and wants to keep learning. If you’re adaptable, supportive of colleagues and committed to safe, compassionate care, you’ll fit right in.
What we’re proud of
The heartfelt feedback we receive from families tells us our care makes a difference at one of the most important times in their lives. That reflects the dedication of our nurses and the strength of our teamwork.
