The Position
This position provides the opportunity to lead and develop medical services in remote and rural settings working alongside a committed team of rural generalists, GPs and trainees, with some of Australia’s greatest National Parks at your doorstep.
An exciting opportunity for a suitable candidate to undertake medical administration training as a RACMA Registrar, based in NT and serving the Big Rivers Region.
While this is envisaged as a full-time role, part time would be considered. While best suited to second or third year candidates, first year candidates would be considered, based on experience and skills.
Working closely with and reporting to the DMS you will be responsible for supporting the provision of high-quality health care services by providing leadership for a portfolio of responsibilities that may include medical workforce recruitment, retention, industrial relations, medicolegal matters as appropriate, and supporting the process of performance review and development of staff under supervision.
In addition, you will work closely with the Safety and Quality manager to monitor and promote quality, safety, and performance standards. The role provides excellent opportunities to lead RMO rostering, pastoral care, engagement and accreditation of training positions.
Health Service
Hospital is a 60-bed hospital in the Northern Territory with a unique and dynamic clinical environment, a cohesive and supportive management structure and an engaged clinician workforce comprising Specialists, Rural Generalists and Junior Medical Officers.
The Location
The town is home to a bustling commercial centre, good schools and social opportunities.
Surrounded by Nitmiluk, Kakadu and East Kimberley National Parks locals spend their weekends enjoying the proximity to outback Australia and with no shortage of bushwalks, camping opportunities and breathtaking flora, fauna and scenery.
Essential Criteria
• Australian citizen or permanent residency in Australia with general registration as a medical practitioner with AHPRA.
• Acceptance into (or eligibility for) the RACMA Fellowship Training Program
• Demonstrated commitment to medical leadership with an ability to evaluate clinical problems and develop appropriate management plans.
• Demonstrate an aptitude and commitment to acquiring skills in medical administration, management and leadership.
• Have effective communication and interpersonal skills appropriate for a trainee, an ability to effectively facilitate relationships with other staff, patients and their families, and hospital management and to have a high standard of professional behaviour.
• Demonstrate an ability to effectively organise and manage time and resources and demonstrate punctuality and reliability, including demonstrate appropriate self-care, ability to cope with stress, and willingness to consider feedback.
• Have a commitment to ongoing education and understanding of audit/research processes.
• Demonstrable commitment to rural and remote medicine
• Experience in rural medicine (NT experience highly regarded), and/or in Indigenous health desirable
The Package
Salary $166,617 - $182,143 + allowances

WHAT ARE WE OFFERING?

You can be part of a program that is designed to help rural and regional areas increase access to medical services for locals by encouraging doctors to build local connections in the communities in which they train.
The Single Employer Model (SEM) aims to make rural training more attractive by providing trainees with secure SA Health employment for up to 4 years across hospital and community placements.
The Single Employer Model (SEM) trial is a Commonwealth initiative allowing Rural Generalist and rural General Practice (GP) trainees to be employed by a single employer (in SA’s case, a regional LHN) for up to four years while they complete their training, even when this training occurs in a private General Practice.
The first SEM trial began in 2022 run by the Riverland Academy of Clinical Excellence in the Riverland Mallee Coorong LHN (RMCLHN). The second SEM trial was implemented in 2025 across the remaining 5 regional Local Health Networks and is coordinated by the Rural Support Service.
The employment continuity of the single employer model lets trainee doctors develop long-term connections within regional communities and provides certainty about location, income and conditions including work hours, on-call obligations and leave entitlements.
