You choose where you set up. Dr Geoff Nicolson, our founder, already has an established cardiology client base across South East Queensland - but our team is equally set up to help you build a client base anywhere in Australia you'd rather be based.

If South East Queensland is where you want to be, you can hit the ground running: our existing client base there is well established, meaning you can be fully booked from day one.

Flexibility is central to how we operate: flexibility in location, and flexibility in how you structure your schedule.

You'll travel to partner GP clinics across your chosen region, working alongside their teams to bring specialist-level cardiology care directly to the patient. Day to day, you'll be:

• Performing echocardiography, electrocardiography and Holter monitoring as the core focus of the role, using equipment we provide.
• Examining, diagnosing, and managing the broader range of cardiology cases on-site at partner clinics.
• Client communication is minimal - you'll be working almost exclusively with the referring GP vet, not directly with pet owners.
• Working collaboratively with referring GP vets rather than in isolation.
• Delivering a verbal handover to the GP vet after each visit, with complete case notes and a treatment plan following shortly after.
• Building ongoing relationships with GP clinics and remaining available for follow-up as cases progress.
• Mentoring and upskilling GP colleagues along the way.

• Registered (or eligible to register) as a veterinarian in Australia.

Your key responsibilities will be to

• maintain reputation for academic excellence
• provide high-quality specialist equine surgical services for clients of the UVTHC during business hours
• develop and support an expanding client base and equine caseload for the hospital
• participate in the provision of education to DVM students and continuing veterinary education activities provided by the unit
• Coordinate the daily activities of the equine unit and provide additional support as required contribute to the continuous improvement of clinical standards and practice
• provide support to the Camden Equine Hospital after-hours service on a rotating basis actively participate in meetings, planning and development activities within the UVTHC, as required by the Hospital Director and Hospital Manager.

Veterinary Specialist in Equine Surgery (HEO level 9) who is a veterinarian with at least partial responsibility for the management of a unit or division, including the management of a range of staff working within the relevant discipline or sub-discipline, who has:

• a degree in veterinary science registrable in New South Wales, Australia
• a Diplomate or Fellowship permitting registration with the NSW Veterinary Scientists Board as a Specialist in Equine / Large Animal Surgery.
• The commencement level will be determined based on the candidate's skills, experience and knowledge.
• The 15% veterinary clinical specialist loading is available once registered as specialist by NSW Veterinary Practitioners Board.
