Reference: 2367574
Employment Type: Fixed Term – Full Time or Part Time
Position Classification: Registrar
Remuneration: $117,745.00 up to 147,664.00 AUD per annum + superannuation, leave loading, and applicable penalty rates
Hours Per Week: Up to 38
Requisition ID: CAM30667
The vision for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is ‘exceptional care, healthier lives’. SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it.
This contract will commence from 1 February 2027 and end on 6 February 2028.
About Our Role
The primary purpose of a Provisional Fellow in Anaesthesia is to provide advanced level anaesthetic practice in a complex clinical environment, whilst under supervision as part of the training of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA).
Provisional Fellows are expected to demonstrate a high level of knowledge and skills, including:
anaesthesia and sedation
regional anaesthesia
airway management
pain medicine
perioperative medicine
resuscitation
trauma and crisis management
This position offers an excellent program and pathway for senior trainees to transition into consultant practice. Special emphasis is placed on developing clinical autonomy, organisational skills and supervision of junior trainees. This position offers the opportunity to develop these skills in adult and paediatric anaesthesia (by mutual agreement).
Anaesthesia at Prince of Wales
Prince of Wales Anaesthesia provides anaesthesia services to Prince of Wales Hospital (POWH) and Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick (SCH). There are fourteen general operating theatres (adult and paediatric), a cardiac operating suite, and a two-theatre urology operating suite including lithotripsy.
There are multiple locations outside of theatres where anaesthesia support is provided to procedural and diagnostic work (e.g. radiology, cardiac catheter labs, endoscopy suite etc.). Anaesthesia is also very active in both teaching and research.
Anaesthesia has eleven Fellow positions: nine in a wide range of Anaesthesia Services distributed between POWH and SCH, one in Pain Medicine and one in Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine (the latter two are advertised separately). In practice all Anaesthesia Fellows work across both POWH and SCH.
A wide range of options are available for the training of Provisional Fellows within the Department. The exact mix of duties is determined by negotiation. We tailor a year of high-quality clinical and non-clinical exposure to each individual. The general principles for a week of work are: two days of clinical work in an area of preferred interest for each provisional fellow, two days of further clinical work required by the Department, and a day for research and development, administration, teaching and quality assurance activities.
Your Primary Location
Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Services is a major teaching hospital and tertiary referral centre based on the Randwick Hospitals Campus. We provide excellent healthcare to SESLHD and specialist health and medical services to NSW. We connect with various universities, including the University of New South Wales, and our premier medical facilities enable leading research and learning opportunities for our staff.
Randwick is a metropolitan hub in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. We have a vibrant, multicultural community, with diverse dining options and regular entertainment hosted by our local council. For those fond of coastal living, we are a walk away from Coogee Beach. A short drive takes you to the famous Bondi Beach and Centennial Parklands. Cycling paths and public transport are readily available, with Sydney’s light rail connecting the campus to Sydney’s CBD just 7 kilometres away.
Perks and Benefits
Come enjoy a blend of urban convenience and relaxed coastal living at Randwick and:
Four weeks of annual leave + an extra Allocated Day Off (ADO) per month.
Other leave including parental leave, FACS leave, and study & education leave.
Salary Packaging, a way to pay for certain items with your pre-tax salary.
Wellbeing initiatives such as the Employee Assistance Program.
Fitness Passport, a discounted fitness membership for access to nearly 1600 gyms, pools and fitness centres across Australia.
Quality learning and development, research opportunities, and more.
SESLHD is committed to creating a workplace that reflects the diversity of our community. This will help ensure our employees, our patients, and their carers feel supported. We encourage people from different backgrounds to apply.
We welcome applications from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander candidates and have an Aboriginal Employment Consultant who can support you. If you have any questions or would like guidance on the recruitment process, contact the SESLHD Aboriginal Employment Team via [email protected].
