Whatyou'llbe doing
In this senior hospitalist role, you will:
- Provide comprehensive medical assessment and management of patients across Emergency, inpatient wards, oncology,and infusion clinic.
- Work alongside GP ED VMOs to assess emergency presentations, stabilise and transfer admitted patients, and ensure high quality, safe clinical care.
- Undertake daily ward rounds, manage inpatients, lead discharge planning, and coordinate care pathways.
- Deliver basic and advanced resuscitation, arrange retrievals and referrals, and provide confident decision making in acute care settings
- Offer clinical oversight across the facility and provide leadership, supervision, and teaching to GP registrars, JMOs, and medical students.
- Participate in the on call roster and support other MLHD sites if credentialed.
- Contribute to high quality documentation, patient management planning, and use of clinical information systems.

COPILOT is a dynamic and exciting service that provides rapid access to multi-disciplinary geriatric assessment (medical, nursing, and allied health) for older people living in the community setting. Referral enables care to be implemented in the patient's home environment, whether that be in RACH's or their own homes, avoiding unnecessary transfer to hospital and leading to improved patient outcomes.
The COPILOT VMO will provide a high quality clinical service to older people and their families/carers to optimise health outcomes and support clients keeping well in the community. The VMO will provide comprehensive geriatric assessments and evidence-based care to clients residing in their own homes or nursing homes for acute care with the goal of avoiding unnecessary transfer to hospital.
The COPILOT VMO will need strong clinical leadership and decision making skills, have relevant clinical experience in the Aged Care speciality, and preferentially experience in providing community-based care both in a direct and virtual capacity. The position requires compliance with mandatory clinical administration duties, and participation in an on-call roster. The Department of Emergency MedicineThe Emergency department has 2 resus bays, 16 acute beds, a rapid access and fast track area and a new 5-bed ED short stay unit due for completion in late 2025. Our department is a receiving centre for major burns, a primary PTCA centre for STEMI and is an acute stroke service referral centre. Our patient population is a cohort with complex medical conditions and high acuity presentations and a small proportion of paediatric attendances.

- There is close liaison with maternal medicine services providing opportunity to learn from renal, hematology, cardiology and various other services who work as part of an MDT Team.
