Be part of a specialist Older Persons Mental Health Service dedicated to supporting older Tasmanians to maintain their mental health, independence and quality of life. You will be working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality, person centred care across community, aged care, and health care settings throughout North and Northwest Tasmania.
The RoleThe Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) - Rapid Access Service (RAS) pilot is an integral senior clinical leadership role within the Older Persons Mental Health Service, providing timely assessment, consultation, care recommendations, follow-up review and support for older people experiencing behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) and provide ongoing education on the pilot to Residential Aged Care Homes (RACHs). This position will have oversight of the pilot ensuring the referrals are actioned in a timely manner, accurate data is collected and documented appropriately and that the pilot is operating within the current model of care. Working in partnership with the Consultant Psychiatrist, Team Leader, multidisciplinary team, and key service providers, the CNC plays a key role in ensuring appropriate intervention for older Tasmanians experiencing BPSD in residential aged care homes. Wherever possible, the role supports older people to remain safely in their usual place of residence reducing avoidable hospital presentations and admissions.
The TeamThe Older Persons Mental Health Service (OPMHS) North/Northwest Community Team is a specialised multidisciplinary service supporting older Tasmanians to maintain their mental health, wellbeing, independence, and quality of life within their own homes and communities. As part of Tasmania's Statewide Older Persons Mental Health Service, we provide assessment, treatment, consultation, and support for people experiencing mental illness, behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia, neurocognitive disorders, Huntington's Disease, and complex mental health needs associated with ageing. Our team includes nursing, psychiatry, psychology, social work, occupational therapy, and allied health professionals who work collaboratively with consumers, families, carers, general practitioners, residential aged care providers, hospitals, and community services across the North and Northwest regions.
The position is located at the Older Persons Community Mental Health Services North and Northwest and will require the successful applicant to travel to different locations across the Northern regions of Tasmania.
You will need- Demonstrated advanced level of clinical expertise specific to BPSD, and knowledge in the delivery and coordination of services similar to RAS, including assessment, triage and client centred care.
- Demonstrated sound working knowledge of leadership principles and an ability to provide clinical leadership and coordination of direct care services, within a multidisciplinary team environment and an ability to work independently with minimal direction.
- Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills, including effective communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, as well as the demonstrated capacity to liaise, negotiate and communicate effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
The Department of Health Tasmania oversees various hospitals across the state, including the Royal Hobart Hospital, Launceston General Hospital, Northwest Regional Hospital, and Mersey Community Hospital, as well as district hospitals and ambulance services. About Connected CareConnected Care is a statewide, integrated mental health service delivered by Wellways in partnership with Stride Mental Health and Clarity Health Care and commissioned by Primary Health Tasmania (PHT). Connected Care provides a free mental health service for adults aged 18 years and over, using a 'no wrong door' approach and stepped care principles to ensure people can access the right support at the right time. You will provide clinical leadership and expert oversight in relation to complex clinical presentations, risk management and clinical governance. You will also foster a culture of clinical excellence, reflective practice, continuous learning and continuous improvement across the service.

The Team:
Launceston General Hospital (LGH) is a multi speciality teaching hospital catering to community in Northern Tasmania. As the major clinical teaching and research centre, LGH works closely with the University of Tasmania and other institutions.
THS Pathology at Launceston General Hospital is a Public Pathology GX laboratory located in LGH and provides multi disciplinary diagnostic services to community in Northern Tasmania. We offer advanced Laboratory Haematology training and we have a team of dedicated haematologists who supervise the trainees for Laboratory Haematology.
At THS Pathology at Launceston General Hospital, we focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.
The Role:
- Participate and train in the diagnostic Haematology service for inpatients and outpatients of the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) under the supervision of Clinical and Laboratory Haematologists.
- Work collaboratively with medical and scientific staff and other health professionals in a role commensurate with experience.
- Assist with the Haematology consultation services
- Participate in Haematology outpatient services in a role commensurate with experience
- Undertake haematology procedures eg: Bone marrow biopsies for the malignant and non malignant patients with haematological disorders as requested by the haematologists.
- Organise MDT and other meetings relevant to the registrar training.
You will need to
- Demonstrate a commitment to training in Laboratory Haematology
- Previous work experience relevant to the role.
With direction and supervision provided by specialist medical staff, the Registrar - Laboratory Haematology is responsible for:
- Adherence to Hospital and professional protocols, policies, clinical pathways and standards.
- Demonstrating sound judgement and competence in accordance with skills and knowledge when undertaking tasks.
- Ensuring work is carried out in accordance with relevant Work Health and Safety legislation and procedures.
Essential Requirements: General or limited registration with AHPRA - Medical Board of Australia.
