Join SALHN as Head of Unit providing senior clinical and operational leadership across General Medicine at Flinders Medical Centre, setting clear standards for patient care, safety, and outcomes.
As an experienced Senior Clinician, you will:- In collaboration with the Clinical Director, ensures the effective and efficient operation of the team.
- Ensures that each consumer's care has a direct line of responsibility to a Consultant (in their relevant specialty).
- Contributes to the development of systems for quality improvement activities - including, examination of key performance indicators and clinical audits.
- Responsible, with the Clinical Director, for reviewing critical incidents/adverse events, complaints, allegations and other sources of feedback about service quality and the propagation of recommendations if required.
- Responsible, with the college supervisor, for ensuring Trainee Medical Officers are supported in their training obligations and provided with the required training.
- Responsible for clinical supervision and line management of medical staff allocated to the team.
- Manages major budget allocation and expenditure with the assistance of the Clinical Director, and contributes to budget preparation, management of allocated funds and preparation of capital works proposals in collaboration with the Clinical Director.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Appropriate Specialist Qualification for Consultant/Senior Consultant registrable as a Specialist with the Medical Board of South Australia.
- Proven leadership skills and an ability to motivate others. Proven ability to successfully lead professional groups to achieve best practice clinical outcomes. Highly developed analytical skills and a demonstrated ability to make sound management decisions. Demonstrated capacity to effectively lead in an environment of dynamic change and financial constraint.
- Demonstrated experience in a Senior Clinical leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience in the planning and provision of health services.

Key responsibilities of this position include:- Providing culturally safe, student-centred wellbeing support, including debriefing, reflective conversations and wellbeing check-ins for students across a range of learning environments.
- Supporting students before, during and after clinical, rural, remote, community and Aboriginal health placements to enhance preparedness, cultural understanding and engagement.
- Assisting students experiencing distress, culture shock, racism or culturally unsafe experiences, and facilitating referrals to appropriate University, College and external support services.
- Collaborating with academic, professional and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander colleagues to strengthen student support pathways, wellbeing initiatives and culturally safe educational practices.

- An extensive range of rotations available for Trainee Medical Officers (TMOs), across all medical and surgical specialties, obstetrics & gynaecology, paediatrics, emergency and intensive care, anaesthetics, mental health and rehabilitation. All rotations are consultant-led, with 24-hour senior clinician support across all sites.
- Our largest hospital, Flinders Medical Centre, is a centre of excellence and tertiary referral centre for South Australia that allows TMOs to gain experience with subspecialty services, such as the state-wide Motor Neuron Disease service and SA Liver Transplant Unit.
- TMOs have regular access to support and training through the TMO Unit and Medical Education Team, who provide weekly fully catered educational sessions, in addition to quarterly simulation sessions in a state-of-the-art Clinical Simulation Laboratory.
- We are co-located with Flinders University, ranked within the top 2% of universities worldwide, with close ties providing the opportunity for academic growth and collaboration, in addition to a variety of Masters and Doctoral degrees available for aspiring academic clinicians.

About SALHN hospitals:
SALHN provides public health services including hospital, outpatient and community services to a population of about 364,000 people across the southern Adelaide metropolitan region, as well as a range of state-wide services. With more than 900 beds and 9,000 staff across 20 sites, including Flinders Medical Centre (FMC), Noarlunga Hospital Precinct (NHP), GP Plus centres and services in the community centred on Veteran’s mental health, Aboriginal Health, home based care and Repat Health Precinct (RHP). SALHN is unique in the State public health system in providing services across the full lifespan of our community.
FMC is a beginning to end-of-life tertiary hospital. Emergency and elective care is provided across a full range of complex and specialist areas incorporating medical and surgical services, mental health, obstetric, paediatric and neonatal services as well as rehabilitation and palliative care. FMC is co-located with Flinders University and Flinders Private Hospital.
Noarlunga Hospital and health precinct includes an emergency department, geriatric inpatient services, elective 23 hour and day surgery, short stay medical care, a range of mental health services, medical ambulatory services such as dialysis and an infusion suite and outpatient clinics. More complex care is referred to FMC.
SALHN provides rehabilitation, dementia care and transitional care services at the Repat Health Precinct. Several non-SALHN services are also provided at the Repat Health Precinct. Redevelopment of the Repat Health Precinct is currently in progress and is being led by the Department of Health and Wellbeing. Jamie Larcombe Centre is the state-wide centre for Veteran’s Mental Health located within the Glenside Health Precinct.

What roles are available?
We are looking for qualified Registered Nurses, dual registration Registered Nurses/Midwives, Registered Clinical Nurses and Enrolled Nurses:

You will be registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse and or Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, and hold a current practicing certificate.
You will possess effective communication skills including, problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills. The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary, be creative innovative and flexible when approaching issues within a healthcare setting. The ability to prioritise workload and demonstrated commitment to providing consumer/client and family centred care.
