We are seeking an emotionally intelligent, client centred, passionate and enthusiastic Senior Mental Health Clinician to join the Nurturing Connections Team.
Nurturing Connections is a parent-child relationship program which aims to improve outcomes for children and families through evidence-based assessment and intervention for caregivers and their infants and young children.
The Senior Mental Health Clinician position will work with caregivers experiencing significant mental health challenges, and other parental stressors (e.g. substance use, DV, trauma, etc), who are pregnant or caring for a child up to age 5, where there are impacts on the caregivers ability to establish an early attachment relationship with their infant/child. The Nurturing Connections multi-disciplinary team will work within the community and across government and non-government organisations. The clinician will use high levels of clinical expertise and extensive specialised knowledge to support families engaged in the service. They will plan, coordinate, and implement high quality mental health care one-on-one with parents/caregivers/children, as well as support and work with whole families, facilitate therapeutic group programs.
If you are an overseas qualified Social Worker, you are required to have your qualifications assessed by the AASW to meet the position criteria.

This position will involve home visiting and travel to other sites across SESLHD.

Selection Criteria:

- Extensive post graduate clinical experience in mental health, and previous experience in working with families of infants/children in which parents are experiencing severe and complex psychosocial and psychiatric problems and demonstrated knowledge of the impact of mental health problems and mental illness on parenting, parent-infant/child relationships and infant/child development.
- Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels.
- Demonstrated ability to provide high level clinical advice, and development of education tools or programs to support others in providing service excellence.
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical nature.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes.
- Demonstrated experience in providing advice to managers on clinical service development, practice change and service redesign.
- Current unrestricted NSW drivers licence and willingness to travel.

The Role
The Clinical Nurse Specialist 2 (CNS2) mental health provides a high standard of care in the assessment & management of mental health issues as well as discharge planning and transfer of care.
The successful applicant must demonstrate strong clinical leadership in the ongoing development & review of treatment planning and clinical review systems for patients with mental health concerns.
This position requires the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. The position holder will be required to process and manage complex and simultaneous issues as part of their regular workload and must demonstrate the ability to enhance organisational performance through collaboration and development of good working relationships with Corrective Services-NSW and JH&FMHN more broadly to provide a "whole of service" approach to patient care.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Current authority to practice as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and a current NSW driver's licence.
- Three years full-time experience working in mental health and post-graduate qualification in mental health.
Our Service and Team
Custodial Mental Health (CMH) is a specialist mental health service within the Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network that provides a range of mental health services to adults in NSW correctional centres.
CMH includes a specialist mental health team with mental health nurses (MHNs), nurse practitioners (NPs), Aboriginal Mental Health Clinicians, psychiatrists, career medical officers (CMOs), and psychiatry registrars who are supported by administrative and managerial staff.
CMH clinicians work alongside staff from other clinical streams and CSNSW staff, including Psychology, Offender Services and Programs, and Custodial Operations staff in the provision of mental health services. Mental health services begin at the point of reception and continue through to release from custody or transfer to another correctional centre.

Whatyou'llbe doing
In this senior hospitalist role, you will:
- Provide comprehensive medical assessment and management of patients across Emergency, inpatient wards, oncology,and infusion clinic.
- Work alongside GP ED VMOs to assess emergency presentations, stabilise and transfer admitted patients, and ensure high quality, safe clinical care.
- Undertake daily ward rounds, manage inpatients, lead discharge planning, and coordinate care pathways.
- Deliver basic and advanced resuscitation, arrange retrievals and referrals, and provide confident decision making in acute care settings
- Offer clinical oversight across the facility and provide leadership, supervision, and teaching to GP registrars, JMOs, and medical students.
- Participate in the on call roster and support other MLHD sites if credentialed.
- Contribute to high quality documentation, patient management planning, and use of clinical information systems.

Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) GP
Earn up to $247.30/hour (GP rate + practice rate), equating to $474,816 + super for eligible contracts (based on 40 hrs/week for 48 weeks).
Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) Specialist
Earn up to $275.85/hour (Specialist rate + practice rate), equating to $529,632 + super for eligible contracts (based on 40 hrs/week for 48 weeks).
Or progress to Senior Specialist VMO rates, earning up to $293.75/hour, which equates to $564,000 + super (based on 40 hrs/week for 48 weeks).
Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) - Fee For Service & RDSP
Fee for Service and Rural Doctors Settlement Package (RDSP) arrangements follow the Visiting Medical Officer (State) Award and the Public Hospitals VMO Determination.
Payments are based on item numbers, service volumes, and rural loadings rather than a fixed hourly or annual figure.
