Title: Clinical Nurse Specialist - Diabetes
Location: North Tasmania
Position Type: Permanent part time, day worker position, working 64 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible *hours can be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Salary: $109,767 to $115,813 per annum (pro rata) + 12% superannuation contribution.
The Position
- Provide specialist nursing expertise within an interdisciplinary framework to assist individuals and their families/carers to adjust to living with diabetes and/ or other endocrinology conditions, including the provision of education and health promotion activities.
- Act as a clinical resource for internal and external stakeholders, including community organisations and health professionals, to provide specialist advice, knowledge and support.

Located in Launceston, the John Morris Diabetes Centre (JMDC) provides the only tertiary care diabetes service in north and north-eastern Tasmania.
The JMDC provides diabetes clinical care and education across the entire span of a person’s life living with all types of diabetes. The clinical services provided reflect the changing needs of a person living with diabetes from birth, through to childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and aging. The clinical framework for diabetes care delivered at the JMDC has been built on the principles of best practice in diabetes care, designed to optimise participation and build agency, are goal orientated, evidenced based and clinically justified.
The JMDC aims to meet regional needs and in this recognises the need to partner and collaborate with the clinical care provided by General Practice, private practice Credentialled Diabetes Educators, Nurse Practitioners and Endocrinologists, and NGOs such as Diabetes Australia, and strategically not duplicating services.

Delivering a broad range of community-based services, including chronic disease management, wound care, continence support, health assessment, health promotion, palliative and supportive care, and care coordination to help people remain healthy and independent in their own homes and communities. Operating within a Primary Health Framework, the team deliver nursing and home care services to clients across the West Coast region both in home and in the clinic environments.

The Position
Join the Department of Health as a Clinical Nurse Consultant – Chronic Kidney Disease and Dialysis, providing expert clinical leadership and education within a multidisciplinary renal team. In this rewarding role, you will support people living with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and their families through education, care coordination, and service development, improving patient outcomes and continuity of care across the renal care journey. Working collaboratively with nephrologists, nursing staff, and allied health professionals, you will lead CKD patient education initiatives, coordinate dialysis access referral pathways, and contribute to quality improvement, research, and evidence-based practice within the renal service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver a nurse-led chronic kidney disease education service.
- Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding CKD management and treatment options.
- Coordinate and develop referral pathways for dialysis vascular access.
- Maintain and audit CKD patient databases to support service planning and outcome evaluation.
- Monitor and report against key performance indicators.
- Support evidence-based nursing practice through literature review and guideline development.

Renal Services - North (Tas) - has an Acute, in-hospital, renal unit in the Launceston General Hospital, and an outpatient Satellite Renal Unit, in the Launceston Community Health Centre, 22 McHugh Street, Kings Meadows - which provides Haemodialysis and Renal Home Therapies, as well as chronic kidney disease education and preparation for dialysis.

Skills and Experience
- To be able to provide clinical nursing consultancy on issues of clinical practice, involving Chronic Kidney Disease and Renal Supportive Care and act as a role model and expert clinician within Renal Services - North.
- To be responsible for the effective planning, implementation and evaluation of a range of educational programs and activities for CKD patients and their families.
- To be able to promote the maintenance of effective communication channels between the members of the multi-disciplinary team, to support the CKD - education pathway for patients with Chronic Kidney Disease.
- Strong understanding of contemporary health education principles and chronic disease management.
- Ability to lead quality improvement initiatives and contribute to research activities.

Servicing a population of approximately 116,000, the Department of Health – North West (DoH), has major sites located approximately 50km apart.
The medical services across the North West region of Tasmania are based primarily at the North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) in Burnie and at the Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) in Latrobe, close to Devonport.
The two hospitals both have very busy emergency and general medical departments. Both Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Paediatrics are primarily located at the NWRH with outpatient services at both sites. Anaesthetic services are provided at both sites however the team is based at NWRH for on call purposes. A busy general surgical service is based at the NWRH with the MCH providing predominately day surgery cases. A rehabilitation service is located in a purpose built ward at the MCH. There are extensive outpatient services for a range of subspecialty services. There is also an eight bed Intensive Care unit located at NWRH. Onsite support services in pathology, imaging and pharmacy are extensive.
The North West Cancer Centre (NWCC) operates as a branch of the Northern Tasmania Cancer Service and it is linked with the Holman Centre in Launceston. The NWCC provides integrated oncology services to patients who live in North West Tasmania.

The department is ACEM-accredited and actively supports doctors through education programs.
Essential Criteria
All doctors must
- hold general registration with AHPRA. International doctors are welcome as long as they are eligible for registration via AHPRA's Competent Authority Pathway
- must have at least 2 years ED experience in a comparable health system (Australia, New Zealand, UK, USA, Canada, Ireland)

The Position
We are seeking applications from Dual Qualified Registered Nurse-Midwives to join our client in delivering high-quality, women-centred Maternity Services. This role is based in the Outpatients Maternity Service, which includes antenatal care and postnatal care in the community. You would have the opportunity to work across both North West Regional Hospital and Mersey Community hospital and scenic outreach services.
Health Service
The North West Maternity Services (NWMS) is primarily located at the North West Regional Hospital, with satellite and community-based services delivered across Mersey Community Hospital (MCH), King Island District Hospital, Smithton District Hospital and West Coast District Hospital. The service covers the full scope of maternity care including antenatal clinics, parenting education classes, pregnancy and postnatal assessment services, a 4-bed birthing suite, 20 bed inpatient ward, 8 bed special care nursery and extended care midwifery services for women when they discharge home after birth. Dedicated lactation services are also offered as well as connections through allied health colleagues for social work, women’s health physio and diabetes services and perinatal mental health.

- Provide advice, care, and support to women during pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period including care of the newborn.

Based in the iconic outback town of Broken Hill, the Clinical Lead – Primary Care and Rural Generalism (Far Western NSW) will play a pivotal role in developing and delivering safe and high-quality rural generalist care across rural and remote communities in Far Western NSW, while also contributing meaningfully to clinical leadership and service delivery across RFDSSE.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Clinical Service Provision (0.8 FTE)
- Provide clinical leadership across Far Western Primary Health services including Clive Bishop Medical Centre and Network Clinics (12 outreach clinics)
- Deliver high-quality primary care including acute, chronic, preventative and mental health services
- Undertake consultations in clinic, community, outreach and telehealth settings
- Ensure continuity of care through appropriate follow-up, referrals and coordination
- Supervise and support GP/RG Registrars, junior doctors and medical students
- Provide clinical teaching, mentoring and assessment for learners and help create a positive and supportive learning environment
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and local health partners
- Engage respectfully with local communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, to deliver culturally appropriate care
Medical Administration (0.2 FTE)
- Collaborate with Clinical Director of Primary Care to develop and deliver a Rural Generalist (RG) training model
- Support GP Registrars across ACRRM and RACGP pathways
- Build educator capacity among supervisors and ensure quality clinical supervision
- Coordinate training experiences aligned with RACGP, ACRRM, HETI, and university partner requirements
- Promote Rural Generalist career pathways and improve training and support for Registrars and supervisors
- Support Clinical Governance activities, including accreditation (NSQHS, AGPAL/RACGP), quality improvement, clinical audits, and morbidity and mortality reviews
- Contribute to the development and review of clinical protocols, policies, incident reporting and risk management
- Assist in the expansion of services aligned with RFDSSE strategy and mission.
Essential Criteria
- Fellowship with either RACGP or ACRRM. FACRRM and FRACGP-RG preferred
- Current AHPRA registration as a Medical Practitioner
- Significant experience in rural and remote medicine
- Demonstrated experience in medical education and clinical supervision
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills
