About the Opportunity
As a Family Clinician in the Whole Family Team, you will provide specialist, trauma-informed interventions to support the recovery, safety and wellbeing of families and their children involved with the child protection system. You will work alongside families where there are concerns relating to the impacts of parental mental health and/or drug and alcohol use on parenting.
Supported and mentored by experienced Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol clinical leadership, you will provide comprehensive assessment, treatment and intervention in families' homes and community settings. You will work closely with the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), health services and government and non-government agencies to provide coordinated care and strengthen parenting capacity so children can safely remain with their families.
In this role you will:
- Undertake comprehensive assessments of social, psychological and environmental factors affecting family functioning, child safety and wellbeing.
- Develop and deliver evidence-based counselling, treatment and intervention plans in collaboration with clinical leads.
- Provide culturally safe, trauma-informed and person-centred care that responds to the unique needs of children and families.
- Work collaboratively with health services, DCJ, Aboriginal Health and community organisations to support integrated and seamless care.
- Build and maintain effective professional networks and referral pathways to strengthen outcomes for families.
- Exercise sound clinical judgement in the assessment and management of complex presentations, seeking clinical support when required.
- Contribute to clinical supervision, professional development, quality improvement and service innovation.
- Support the delivery of interventions aligned with the NSW Health Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect (PARVAN) Framework, relevant standards, guidelines and policies.
- A relevant tertiary qualification and registration with AHPRA as an Occupational Therapist, Nurse or eligible Psychologist, or eligibility for membership with the AASW as a Social Worker.
- Demonstrated experience working with families, with knowledge of mental health and/or drug and alcohol assessment tools, interventions and models of care.
- Comprehensive experience in assessment, counselling, therapy and/or casework with families, including an understanding of the impact of violence, abuse and neglect on child development.
- Strong clinical, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships with families, colleagues and external partners.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and remain effective in complex and emotionally challenging situations.
- Experience contributing to clinical leadership, supervision, professional development and quality improvement.
- An eligible NSW Drivers Licence and willingness to travel for work, as well as a current Working with Children Check.

Join the Youth Mental Health & Wellbeing Team within Barwon Health's Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services (MHDAS).
This specialist public mental health service provides integrated, recovery-oriented care to young people aged 12-25 years experiencing moderate to severe mental health challenges, including dual diagnosis and complex psychosocial presentations.
As a Youth Mental Health Clinician, you will deliver evidence-based assessment, treatment and care coordination within a multidisciplinary team. You will support young people with complex needs, including co-occurring AOD concerns and psychosocial vulnerability, working collaboratively with families, primary care providers, education and community partners to ensure coordinated, recovery-focused care.
This role operates within a seven-day rotating roster.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment and recovery-focused interventions
- Provide evidence-based mental health and AOD treatment for young people aged 12-25
- Undertake risk assessment and safety planning in line with clinical governance standards
- Contribute to coordinated care planning with families and partner services
- Relevant qualification and current registration (Nursing, OT, Social Work, Psychology or equivalent)
- Experience working with young people with complex mental health and AOD presentations
- Strong risk formulation and recovery-oriented treatment planning skills
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and 7-day roster

About You:You are a skilled and thoughtful experienced senior clinician with a strong interest in forensic and child and adolescent mental health, committed to improving outcomes for young people with complex needs.
- Eligible disciplines: RPN, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker Grade 4 / Psychologist Grade 3
- Relevant professional registration (e.g. Psychology with Clinical/Forensic/Neuroendorsement, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Registered Psychiatric Nurse)
- Extensive experience in youth mental health and/or forensic mental health settings
