About the role
The Test Environment Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the availability, performance, and governance of SJGHC's test and non-production environments. Responsible for managing and optimising the full environment lifecycle, this role enables reliable testing, seamless project delivery, and effective operational support by ensuring environments are secure, stable, fit for purpose, and readily available when needed.
Working closely with technical and business stakeholders, the Test Environment Manager drives improvements in environment utilisation, governance, and cost efficiency, identifying opportunities to maximise value, reduce waste, and deliver measurable savings. This role is ideal for a proactive and strategic professional who is passionate about continuous improvement, operational excellence, and supporting the successful delivery of technology initiatives across the organisation.
The role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis (38 hours per week) and can be based in either our Perth office on Wellington Street or our Melbourne office on Collins Street, providing flexibility to work from either location while collaborating with stakeholders across the organisation.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the management and optimisation of non-production environments to achieve high environment availability, reduced downtime, and improved support for testing, development, and project delivery.
- Improve environment utilisation and lifecycle management through effective provisioning, scheduling, capacity planning, refreshes, and governance, resulting in greater environment efficiency and reduced resource waste.
- Drive measurable cost savings by identifying and implementing opportunities for environment consolidation, rightsizing, reuse, shutdown, and decommissioning of underutilised services.
- Coordinate environment requirements, dependencies, risks, and priorities across technical and project teams to minimise delivery delays, reduce environment conflicts, and improve release readiness.
- Enhance operational effectiveness through increased automation, standardisation, and test data governance, delivering faster environment turnaround times and improved service reliability.
- Monitor and report on environment performance, utilisation, demand, and costs to provide visibility of realised savings, optimisation outcomes, and continuous improvement opportunities.
Your skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you will bring significant experience managing and optimising complex non-production environments across multiple applications and projects, supported by a tertiary qualification in Information Technology or equivalent industry experience. You will have a strong understanding of cloud and on-premises technologies, software delivery lifecycles, and enterprise environments, with a proven track record of improving environment availability, utilisation, governance, and lifecycle management while delivering measurable cost savings through consolidation, rightsizing, reuse, and decommissioning initiatives.
You will possess strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to coordinate competing priorities, manage environment dependencies, and drive continuous improvement. Experience in capacity planning, test data management, automation, standardisation, and cost optimisation is essential, along with the ability to analyse utilisation and consumption trends, identify efficiencies, and implement sustainable improvements that maximise environment value, reduce operational costs, and support reliable testing and project delivery outcomes.
Above all, people will be at the core of everything you do committing to and supporting our Mission and Values.
All applicants are requested to submit a covering letter (of no more than two (2) pages) demonstrating how you meet the above position requirements.
