WSLHD - Senior Registrar - Melanoma and Surgical Oncology - Westmead Hospital
Westmead Hospital is a key facility of one of Australia's largest major health and medical research precincts and is the principal referral hospital for Western Sydney Local Health District providing district level health services to Parramatta, Holroyd and The Hills Shire LGAs including tertiary and quaternary services to greater western Sydney, greater metropolitan Sydney, rural NSW and other states. Westmead Hospital provides approximately 638 acute overnight, 30 day only and 52 subacute beds. The Westmead Health Precinct currently under development is envisaged to be the biggest hospital building project undertaken in Western Sydney and will transform the iconic but ageing Westmead Hospital into an innovative, contemporary and integrated centre that will continue to deliverhigh quality healthcare and expand the education, health and research capability of the area.
Westmead Hospital is a leading centre of research, training and specialisations in all fields of medicine and dentistry, providing services in cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, kidney and pancreas transplantation, cancer care, obstetrics and gynaecology, neonatal intensive care, trauma, bone marrow transplantation, critical care, aged care and rehabilitation, adult acute psychiatry (networked with the co-located Cumberland Hospital) as well as other highly specialised medical and surgical services.
The Westmead Hospital Emergency Department (ED) operates 24 hours, 7 days per week and manages all types and levels of illnesses and injuries. As one of six major trauma centres in the state, the ED also cares for people with the most severe physical injuries.
Westmead Hospital ED presentation numbers are among the highest in the state. Critical care services within Westmead Hospital are provided by the Intensive care unit and the medical and surgical high dependency units. Other specialist services that provide a high dependency level of care for patients within their clinical specialty wards include the Coronary Care Unit, Renal and Pancreas Transplantation and Haematology.
Over 120 different outpatient clinics for a number of different specialities and services provide ambulatory care to approximately 5,000 attendances per month.
The Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre Westmead is a purpose-built state of the art facility based at Westmead Hospital. The Centre provides fully integrated research, prevention, diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation programs for patients and families coping with cancer. Palliative care and symptom control support, genetic counselling via the familial cancer service and Psych Oncology support via an onsite psychiatrist and psychologists is also provided at the Cancer Centre. A significant number of clinical trials are available for our patients when appropriate and we have the support of dedicated cancer laboratories undertaking current cancer research. The Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre is a statewide referral centre for Blood Transplant and Cellular Therapies. Our model of care includes a large number of tumour specific multi-disciplinary teams.
Westmead Hospital is one of Australia's largest centres for postgraduate training to specialist levels in all fields with over 100 PhD students and other postgraduate students supervised by Westmead Hospital scientists and clinicians. Westmead is home to internationally recognised institutes of health research, the most prominent being the Westmead Millennium Institute. The Westmead Millennium Institute is one of the largest medical research institutes in Australia, conducting research into a wide range of human disorders affecting both adults and children, including infectious and immune diseases, cancer and leukaemia, liver and metabolic diseases, eye and brain related disorders and heart and respiratory disorders.
What you'll be doing
- Provision of surgical services, including inpatient and outpatient care of surgical oncology unit patients, undergraduate/postgraduate teaching and research.
- Involvement in MDT meetings for sarcoma, non-melanoma skin cancer, melanoma and thyroid cancer.
- Participation in the roster for on-call for the Acute Surgical Unit.
- Involvement in audit meetings for the Department and General Surgery.
- Responsibility for the maintenance of quality of all aspects of service delivery and the efficient use of resources within Western Sydney Local Health District.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Must have obtained fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) or equivalent
- Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices that support credentialing to the position and are commensurate with the scope of practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.
- Sound clinical knowledge and experience in general surgery/ head and neck surgery/surgical oncology
- Familiarity with the natural history and biological behaviour of melanoma, non- melanoma skin cancer (NMSC), thyroid cancer, sarcoma and malignancy of the head and neck.
- High level interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence based best practice. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision.
- Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.

Cumberland Hospital, co- located with Westmead Hospital provides primary and secondary mental health services to the local population and tertiary acute, extended and forensic mental health services to greater western Sydney and NSW. There is also a range of community mental health residential facilities, recovery support and specialist treatment services located on the campus.
The Trainee works as part of a multi-disciplinary team which includes medical, nursing and allied health professionals. They will work at the Senior resident medical officer (SRMO) level or Junior Registrar level (Depending on level of experience).
The Trainee is directly responsible to the supervising Emergency Medicine Specialist of the day, with overall supervision by the Term Supervisor and the Emergency Department Director.
The Trainee must work effectively with other specialty teams and nursing staff in the wider hospital, to ensure optimal patient care. The Trainee must also interact professionally with clinicians outside of the hospital, including GP’s and community nurses.
What you'll be doing
WSLHD - Trainee Stage 1 - Emergency Medicine (Westmead)
The primary purpose of the Trainee in the Emergency Department is to provide clinical care, under appropriate supervision, to patients requiring emergency medical services in a complex clinical environment. This position will provide experience in a critical care environment and have responsibilities and opportunities for autonomous practice commensurate with the level of experience of the incumbent.
The Trainee is expected to function at the minimum of a Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO) level.
The following rotations are available to Trainees:
· Westmead Emergency
· The Children’s Hospital Westmead Emergency
· Westmead and Auburn anaesthetics
· Westmead ICU
· Other rotations may be negotiated depending on availability
It is expected that provisional trainees when eligible will apply to the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) for enrolment into training.
Westmead ED is accredited for provisional & advance training with 16 hours/7 days emergency physician cover.
Our teaching program has multiple streams dedicated to different requirements including a weekly registrar teaching. There are also skills days throughout the year specific for provisional trainees and preparation in both the primary and fellowship exam.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Must have completed at least two postgraduate years training in an Australian Public Hospital or equivalent (not as an Observer)
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment with commitment to self-education and continuous professional development
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team with an understanding of the roles of the doctor and other members of the healthcare team.
- Ability and willingness to work at the facilities within the Network to deliver patient care. Ability and willingness to participate in a rotating roster including days, evenings, nights and weekends and preparedness to participate in an on call roster for the emergency department.
- Ability to recognise the acutely unwell patient and to initiate immediate management and institute Basic Life Support. Completion of ALS training, or willingness to complete in the first 3 months of appointment
- Excellent organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management

The Trainee works as part of a multi-disciplinary team which includes medical, nursing and allied health professionals. They will work at the Senior resident medical officer (SRMO) level or Junior Registrar level (Depending on level of experience).
The Trainee is directly responsible to the supervising Emergency Medicine Specialist of the day, with overall supervision by the Term Supervisor and the Emergency Department Director.
The Trainee must work effectively with other specialty teams and nursing staff in the wider hospital, to ensure optimal patient care. The Trainee must also interact professionally with clinicians outside of the hospital, including GP’s and community nurses.
What you'll be doing
WSLHD - Trainee Stage 1 - Emergency Medicine (Westmead)
The primary purpose of the Trainee in the Emergency Department is to provide clinical care, under appropriate supervision, to patients requiring emergency medical services in a complex clinical environment. This position will provide experience in a critical care environment and have responsibilities and opportunities for autonomous practice commensurate with the level of experience of the incumbent.
The Trainee is expected to function at the minimum of a Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO) level.
The following rotations are available to Trainees:
· Westmead Emergency
· The Children’s Hospital Westmead Emergency
· Westmead and Auburn anaesthetics
· Westmead ICU
· Other rotations may be negotiated depending on availability
It is expected that provisional trainees when eligible will apply to the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) for enrolment into training.
Westmead ED is accredited for provisional & advance training with 16 hours/7 days emergency physician cover.
Our teaching program has multiple streams dedicated to different requirements including a weekly registrar teaching. There are also skills days throughout the year specific for provisional trainees and preparation in both the primary and fellowship exam.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Must have completed at least two postgraduate years training in an Australian Public Hospital or equivalent (not as an Observer)
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment with commitment to self-education and continuous professional development
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team with an understanding of the roles of the doctor and other members of the healthcare team.
- Ability and willingness to work at the facilities within the Network to deliver patient care. Ability and willingness to participate in a rotating roster including days, evenings, nights and weekends and preparedness to participate in an on call roster for the emergency department.
- Ability to recognise the acutely unwell patient and to initiate immediate management and institute Basic Life Support. Completion of ALS training, or willingness to complete in the first 3 months of appointment

Over 120 different outpatient clinics for a number of different specialities and services provide ambulatory care to approximately 5,000 attendances per month.
The Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre Westmead is a purpose-built state of the art facility based at Westmead Hospital. The Centre provides fully integrated research, prevention, diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation programs for patients and families coping with cancer. Palliative care and symptom control support, genetic counselling via the familial cancer service and Psych Oncology support via an onsite psychiatrist and psychologists is also provided at the Cancer Centre. A significant number of clinical trials are available for our patients when appropriate and we have the support of dedicated cancer laboratories undertaking current cancer research. The Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre is a statewide referral centre for Blood Transplant and Cellular Therapies. The Westmead Hospital Emergency Department (ED) operates 24 hours, 7 days per week and manages all types and levels of illnesses and injuries. As one of six major trauma centres in the state, the ED also cares for people with the most severe physical injuries.

The Orthopaedic Trainee will be undertaking postgraduate specialty training and will have a commitment to progressing this training. The Trainee will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to the Trainee’s experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate Attending Medical Officer (AMO).
The Orthopaedic Trainee is responsible for the initial assessment of patients and ongoing day-to-day management under the direction of the appropriate attending medical officer who has legal responsibility for the patient. The Orthopaedic Trainee has a responsibility for ensuring appropriate communication and documentation takes place, including collection of appropriate Morbidity and Mortality data as well as a responsibility for the training and supervision of junior medical staff.
The Orthopaedic Trainee is responsible for the organisation of the clinical team, will contribute to the Departmental Administration and has the responsibility of appropriately delegating clinical and administrative duties to the junior member of the staff.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Completed Three Post Graduate years. Previous Australian experience as an Orthopaedic SRMO or Trainee is required. Successful completion of term requirements for application to advanced training with the Australian Orthopaedic Association.

Concord Hospital Haematology Clinical Research Unit is seeking highly motivated Provisional Fellows to join the Haematology Clinical Research Team
The positions are open to qualified candidates in Clinical Haematology. Opportunities are available to develop your own research projects including enrolment in a higher research degree if desired. Fellows are encouraged to develop an area of research interest and to present at local, state and national meetings where appropriate.
1.Clinical Research Unit (CRU) Fellow
a.The CRU Fellow manages patients treated in clinical trials across all haematological malignancies. They will gain valuable experience in managing patients treated with bispecific/trispecific antibodies and novel small molecules in phase I, II and III trials. They will work closely with the CAR T fellow in care of patients in CAR T trials.
b.They will provide both routine and urgent medical assessment and clinical care to patients screened & participating in clinical trials as a certified Investigator within Concord Haematology’s Clinical Research Unit (CRU).
c.They will also be involved in supporting observational studies and disease registries.
The Concord Haematology Clinical Research Unit (HCRU)
Concord HCRU is a large and growing clinical research unit which supports Concord Haematology department goal to deliver “world class care locally”. Housed in the purpose built Concord Cancer Centre, we undertake early to late phase clinical trials including CAR-T clinical trials and first-in-human phase I trials. The trials portfolio extends across a broad range of malignancies (lymphoma, leukaemia, myeloma, MDS) and other haematological disorders (thrombosis, autoimmune disorders). At any one time, the HCRU manages more than 120 studies either recruiting or in follow up from phase I-IV.
Under the leadership of the HCRU Haematologist Director and Manager, the HCRU supports 9 clinical haematologists and employs 13 clinical research nurses / study coordinators, 4 administrative staff responsible for ethics and regulatory requirements as well as 4 medical student data managers, and patient investigators. The Unit has a strong ethos of community engagement and its investigator-initiated research is supported by the Foundation for A Bloody Great Cause!

About the Role
An opportunity to join a clinic focused on myeloid related diseases at the Cranbourne Community Hospital. This is one of two dedicated myeloid clinics in the service, treating high acuity patients with access to a cutting-edge clinical trial portfolio. The primary function of this role to participate on a weekly basis in the clinic on Monday afternoons with a case mix of patients with predominantly malignant haematological conditions. The focus of this clinic is myeloid related diseases (acute leukaemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, myeloproliferative neoplasms and stem cell transplant consultation), including diagnosis, treatment and post-acute care. An understanding of haematologic disease, particularly myeloid disorders and related biology, investigation, treatment and clinical trials is essential. The appointee must contribute to regular functioning of the Haematology unit, including participation in multidisciplinary team meetings aligned with this clinic. The role also requires participation in scientific/translational research within the Monash Health and Translation Precinct (MHTP), the advanced trainee teaching program and other relevant unit and hospital educational and quality activities.
