You'll find a thriving beef and dairy industry that began in the 1850s in Bega, the cheese capital of Australia. In Goulburn, the Big Merino is a symbol of the 200-year-old local wool industry.

Resident wildlife includes kangaroos, wallabies, possums, bandicoots, sea eagles, parrots, lyrebirds and wombats.
The area is home to more than 200,000 residents, including four large Aboriginal nations: Gundungurra, Ngunnawal, Ngarigo and Yuin. The population is expected to keep growing, with the fastest-growing age group being aged 65 and over. Affordable housing, wide-open spaces, plenty to do and see, arts and cultural events, and a rich history are what attract people to become residents of the area.
