Why Your Role Matters:The Research Program Manager plays a strategic and operational leadership role in the planning, development and delivery of a multi-centre portfolio of research projects focused on the quality use of medicines (QUM). This role supports the day-to-day running of projects, research strategy, manages funding applications and grants, ensures compliance with ethics and regulatory requirements, and facilitates knowledge translation.
The Research Program Manager coordinates multidisciplinary teams and collaborations, monitors research outputs and impact, and contributes to the overall success and sustainability of the research program. The role reports to the program Chief Investigators and has no direct reports.
Responsibilities Summary:- Support research strategy and development to advance the program's objectives and long-term impact.
- Manage research funding applications and grants, including drafting documentation, coordinating input from collaborators and ensuring alignment with funding body requirements.
- Ensure compliance with relevant governance, ethics and regulatory frameworks applicable to the conduct of research projects.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary research teams and collaborations, including researchers, clinicians, policy experts and administrative staff.
- Undertake day-to-day project management by leading the planning, execution and delivery of research projects, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and timelines.
- Lead project governance activities and maintain project documentation including project plans, risk registers, stakeholder maps, budgets and progress reports.
- Manage project risks, issues, change requests and financials, implementing mitigation strategies and ensuring project resilience.
- Monitor research progress and performance against milestones, budgets and deliverables, and provide regular updates to investigator teams and funding bodies.
- Perform data collection, management and analysis to support research objectives.
- Facilitate effective stakeholder engagement across clinical, academic and policy sectors, ensuring transparent communication and collaboration.
- Oversee quality assurance processes and support dissemination of project findings through reports, presentations and publications, contributing to knowledge translation and policy influence.
- Monitor research outputs and impact and represent the research program across UNSW work areas, advisory groups, and at local and national meetings; lead and manage other program-wide research activities as required.

Skills and Experience Summary:- Relevant Master's level tertiary qualification with substantial experience in managing research projects, or equivalent competence gained through a combination of education, training and experience.
- Proven experience in research project management, with a strong understanding of the full project lifecycle, including strategic planning, execution, monitoring and reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to support research strategy and development, including contributions to funding applications and grant management.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail in documentation, reporting and stakeholder communications.
- Proven ability to support knowledge translation and dissemination through publications, presentations and stakeholder engagement.
- Experience working collaboratively with diverse teams, including researchers, clinicians, policy experts and administrative staff, across academic and external environments.
- Familiarity with ethics and regulatory compliance processes relevant to health and medical research.
- Sound knowledge of budgeting, financial management and resource allocation procedures within a research context.
- Experience in data collection, management and analysis to support research outcomes.
- High-level proficiency in using a range of computer systems and applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel and project management tools.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines using judgement and initiative.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, while also taking initiative and working independently when managing competing demands.

The Group Leader-Immuno-Oncology is the senior research leader responsible for building and leading the Immuno-Oncology research group at CCI. The Immuno-Oncology team play a key role in the Institutes strategy providing innovative research into how the immune system can be harnessed to treat and cure Childhood cancer.
The Group Leader- Immuno-Oncology, will conceptualise and conduct original research of the highest calibre spanning paediatric tumour immunology, mechanisms of immune evasion and resistance, and the development and testing of immunotherapies.
This role is responsible for leading the scientific direction, financial management and ethical oversight for the Group, and will be accountable for attracting funding to maintain the viability and sustainability of the research program. The Group Leader- Immuno-Oncology works closely with clinicians at the Sydney Children's Hospital, collaborators at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and with national and international trial networks, so that the Group discoveries move effectively towards early phase clinical trials for children with high-risk, refractory and relapsed cancer.
To succeed in this role you will have
- A PhD in immunology, cancer biology or a closely related biomedical discipline.
- A minimum 10+ years postdoctoral research experience.
- A minimum appointment at, or eligibility for appointment at, Associate Professor level.
- Demonstrated expertise in immunological methods and models relevant to cancer, such as high-parameter flow or mass cytometry, single-cell and/or spatial profiling, functional immune assays, and immunocompetent or humanised in vivo tumour models.
- A strong record of publications, relative to opportunity, in highly regarded journals.
- A demonstrated capacity to attract peer-reviewed funding.
- A strong or emerging national and/or international scientific reputation, proven by collaborations.
- Evidence of contribution to the broader health and medical research community.
- Demonstrated commitment to conducting experiments involving humans, animals and/or GMOs under strict ethical and regulatory guidelines, and of compliance with other regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets.

- Registration or eligible for registration with Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA). Candidate to provide AHPRA Registration Number on application.
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for by the Health Insurance Act 1973 and the relevant Award/Determination, and demonstrated subspecialty training in Obstetric Medicine with SOMANZ accreditation, or equivalent.
- Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
- Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality service in the specialty, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital.
- Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriate as a senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical and dental staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites. Demonstrated commitment to provision of a high standard of clinical care in the public sector setting.
