About the RoleAs the Clinical Research Fellow, you will be part of a clinical, research and academic team within the Oncology Department. You will be responsible for the care of patients on clinical trials and will be exposed to a range of research activities related to early phase and phase III national and international clinical trials, as well as in house investigator initiated projects.
Duties- Provide direct medical care to assigned clinical trial patients under the supervision and guidance of a Senior Staff Specialist
- Assist in identifying patients that are potentially eligible for clinical trials
- Assist in consenting and coordination of tissue for studies involving molecular screening
- Undertake clinical trial procedural work including oversight of ethics submissions, tumour measurements and serious adverse event reporting
- Participation in site qualification meetings, site initiation visits as well as safety review committee meetings for early phase studies (with supervision/guidance from senior staff specialist)
- Take part in audits, clinical research and quality management initiatives within Cancer Services
- Participate in regular research meetings with clinical trials personnel
- Participate in education of medical and nursing staff
- Participate as an Oncology representative on the Human Research Ethics committee
- Assist in general Oncology clinics intermittently as needed
- Participate in the Oncology on call roster not more than 1 in 6 weeks
This is a one year, 0.80FTE , fixed term position. Classifications for this position will range from HM25 - HM30 ($129,048.40 - $177,622.12 pro rata + salary sacrifice and excluding super)
What You Will BringRegistration as a medical practitioner without conditions, with APHRA FRACP in Medical Oncology or completed at least 2 years of advanced training in medical oncology. Clinical skills and abilities are expected, consistent with the level of training in oncology according to the years of experience in the specialty. Good communication skills at a primary patient care and inter professional level. Strong interest in patient care, research and clinical trials. Current GCP certificate.
About the DepartmentThe Department of Oncology at SVHM provides a comprehensive service to in patients, day patients, outpatients and satellite clinics. The Oncology Clinical Trials Unit conducts national and International clinical trials across a breadth of tumour streams. About the roleThe Nurse Practitioner in Adult Access Mental Health Services is a registered nurse who is authorized to function autonomously and collaboratively in an advanced and extended role. The Nurse Practitioner role includes assessment and management of consumers using nursing knowledge and skills which may include, but not limited to, the direct referral of consumers to other health care professionals, prescribing medications and ordering diagnostic interventions. The Nurse Practitioner will have strong knowledge of working in the community setting with family inclusive practice a core element of their care.
The Nurse Practitioner role is grounded in the nursing professional values, knowledge, theories, practice and provides innovative and flexible health care delivery that compliments other health care providers. The scope of practice is determined by the context in which the Nurse Practitioner is authorized to practice, according to the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) competency and accreditation standards and is articulated in a specific model of care.
This position involves:
- Performs comprehensive consumer assessments and demonstrate skill in the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illness within the specified scope of practice.
- Practices within a clinical framework that is evidence based, relevant, current and is in accordance with the ANMC competency standards and departmental policies and procedures.
- Recognizes limits to practice and consults appropriately.
- Facilitates consumer access to appropriate interventions and therapies.
- Ensures all consumers, residents, visitors and staff are treated in a courteous and non-discriminatory manner. Provides an efficient and customer focused service.
- Acts as a positive role model, providing expert nursing knowledge to the multidisciplinary team and will be accountable and responsible for advanced levels of decision making.

What you'll bringTo be successful in this role you will possess:
Qualifications- Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA), with no conditions of registration relating to unsatisfactory professional performance or unprofessional conduct.
- Completed degree of Masters of Nurse Practitioner or equivalent Clinical Masters degree, as deemed appropriate by Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA, including the Therapeutic Medication management module.
- Endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner on the National Register via the NMBA.
- Advanced interpersonal, communication and networking skills.
- Proficient written and computer literacy skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Broad based knowledge of professional issues in nursing and a good understanding of health care systems and future trends.
- Evidenced contribution to nursing professional and practice development.
- Extensive and recent experience in clinical specialty.
- Advance level of therapeutic management skills.
- Demonstrated excellent collaborative, leadership, teaching, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to evaluate practice at an advanced level.
- Victorian Driver's licence.
- Experience in nursing research and research skills.
