Senior Lived Experience Worker - Modbury Mental Health Rehab Unit
Job no: 949931
Work type: Part time
Location: Adelaide Metro Northern
Categories: Mental Health
- Northern Adelaide Local Health Network – Modbury Hospital – MODBURY SA 5092
- Salary/Total Indicative Remuneration: $82,212 - $86,180 p.a. (pro rata) plus Superannuation and Salary Sacrifice benefits – OPS4
- Temporary Part-Time – 22.5 hours per week, up to 2 April 2027
About the Role:
SA Health's Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) is seeking a Senior Lived Experience Worker to join the Modbury Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit — a dedicated inpatient service supporting adults on their recovery journey. This is a part-time, fixed-term contract through to 2 April 2027, offering a genuine opportunity to use your own lived experience of mental health recovery to shape care, influence practice, and champion the voices of the people this service exists for.
Your Role at Modbury MHS
Working within the Modbury Adult Mental Health Service, you will bring authenticity and credibility to a multidisciplinary team committed to recovery-oriented practice. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Providing peer support and one-to-one mentoring to consumers, drawing on your own lived experience to build connection and trust
- Contributing to the development and delivery of recovery-focused group programs within the rehabilitation unit
- Acting as a senior voice in the team, mentoring less experienced lived experience workers and supporting their reflective practice
- Collaborating with clinical staff to embed consumer perspectives into care planning, service improvement, and discharge preparation
What You Bring
- Genuine lived experience of mental health challenges and a sustained personal recovery, which you are willing to share in a purposeful, professional context
- Demonstrated experience working in a paid or volunteer peer support or lived experience role within a mental health or community health setting
- Understanding of recovery-oriented frameworks and trauma-informed approaches as applied in South Australian mental health services
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries while engaging with consumers in emotionally complex situations
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to contribute as a senior team member across a multidisciplinary environment
- Current or eligible SA employment screening clearances, including a National Police Check
About You:
In this role you will have strong interpersonal and communication skills which will enable you to successfully problem solve, resolve conflicts and negotiate, including the ability to engage in difficult conversations, whilst building and maintaining relationships. An ability to effectively manage multiple, diverse and competing priorities and demonstrated resilience within a stressful and complex environment is essential to this role.
You will be joining a dynamic and expanding Local Health Network that is committed to delivering contemporary, innovative and high‑quality health services within modern facilities.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a passionate, highly driven, dedicated and progressive team.
