St Vincent's Private Hospital Kew is seeking an experienced and motivated Registered Nurse to join our dedicated Anaesthetics and Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) team on a 12-month fixed term full time or part time (0.8) contract.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled perioperative nurse who is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care and enjoys working within a supportive, collaborative, and highly professional environment.
About St Vincent's Private Hospital Kew
Located in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, St Vincent's Private Hospital Kew is a specialist surgical facility providing high-quality care across a range of specialties including:
- Orthopaedics
- Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

With 5 operating theatres and a strong patient centred focus, our perioperative team is committed to clinical excellence, safety, and outstanding patient outcomes.
About the Role
As a valued member of our Anaesthetics and PACU team, you will be responsible for delivering safe, evidence-based care throughout the perioperative journey. Working collaboratively with anaesthetists, surgeons and multidisciplinary team members, you will contribute to a positive patient experience while maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1).
- Minimum 2 years experience in Anaesthetics and Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) nursing.
- Demonstrated ability to provide safe, high quality patient care within a busy perioperative environment.
- Sound knowledge and application of ANZCA, ACORN, and NSQHS standards.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to effectively prioritise competing demands.
- The ability to work both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary perioperative team.
- Flexibility to work varying days and hours in line with operational requirements and participate in a rotating roster.
- A commitment to continuous improvement and evidence-based practice.
Desirable:
- Postgraduate qualification in Anaesthetics and Recovery Nursing.

About the Role/The Opportunity
Reporting to the Clinical Program Director of Continuing Care, the Clinical Director of Palliative Care provides strategic, clinical and professional leadership for SVHM’s comprehensive Palliative Care Service. With a national and international reputation for excellence and compassion, the Palliative Care Service delivers specialist palliative care across acute inpatient services, the Inpatient Specialist Palliative Care Unit at Caritas Christi, Subacute Wards at the Fitzroy and Kew campuses, community outreach, correctional health, and partnerships with rural and regional health services.
We are seeking a collaborative and forward-thinking leader who combines specialist clinical expertise with an innovative and person-centred approach to palliative care. The successful candidate will lead and inspire a dedicated multidisciplinary team of skilled clinicians to deliver excellence in patient care and outcomes, while providing strategic direction for the service in alignment with organisational priorities and the broader vision of the Continuing Care Program Motivated by a commitment to advancing palliative care delivery, the Clinical Director will drive service innovation, strengthen research capability, mentor and develop emerging clinical leaders, and foster strong partnerships across St Vincent's and its academic, community and healthcare networks. Supported by a high-performing executive leadership team, the Clinical Director will play a pivotal role in enhancing the profile, impact and future direction of Palliative Care Services through a collaborative "One St Vincent's" approach.
Key responsibilities
Primary day to day accountabilities for this service-critical appointment include:
Provide strategic, clinical and professional leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based and person-centred palliative care services across St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne.
Lead the ongoing development and implementation of strategic and operational plans that align Palliative Care Services with the broader objectives of Continuing Care Services, SVHM and St Vincent's Health Australia.
Promote a culture of clinical excellence, quality improvement, safety and innovation, ensuring research evidence and best practice are translated into patient care.
Provide expert specialist advice and leadership to multidisciplinary teams, supporting excellence in symptom management, end-of-life care and holistic care for patients and their families.
Lead and develop a high performing multidisciplinary team, building workforce capability through mentorship, education and succession planning.
Drive service development and growth opportunities, including the implementation of innovative models of care across inpatient, subacute, community and specialist palliative care settings.
Establish and maintain strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including healthcare providers, academic institutions, government agencies and professional bodies.
Advance education and training activities across the service, ensuring high-quality learning environments for medical students, trainees and multidisciplinary clinicians.
Strengthen the research profile and academic standing of Palliative Care Services through collaboration, publication, translation of evidence into practice and the development of research capability.
Provide leadership in organisational priorities and business planning to ensure achievement of clinical, operational, workforce and financial objectives.
Classifications for this position will range from Specialist Year 1 –Year 9 (HM33 - HM41) Full Time), dependent on time commitment and years of experience.
Selection Criteria
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Appointees must be legally qualified medical practitioners, registered or registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Member of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and specialist qualification in Palliative Medicine.
Evidence of ongoing CME participation
Indemnification with recognised Medical Defence Association
Driver’s licence
Other essential requirements:
Relevant experience in leadership and management roles within healthcare
Strong track record in creating high performing teams that deliver impactful outcomes
Highly regarded as a clinician leader with excellent communication skills with both patients and colleagues
Teaching commitment and skills in the areas of undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education
Commitment to and participation in ongoing quality improvement in clinical, hospital services and business activities
Commitment to and participation in continuing professional development activities

About the role
Provide assessment and psychological therapy within Program for Early Intervention and the Prevention of Disability (PEIPOD), a multidisciplinary early intervention service for young people with recent onset psychosis or mood disorders, working across inpatient and community settings in partnership with local non-government organisations
Conduct comprehensive assessments, develop individualised treatment and care plans, and deliver evidence-based interventions in consultation with consumers, families/carers, and relevant service providers
Function as the primary clinician (case manager) for PEIPOD clients, coordinating care and providing consultation and support to families and carers
Deliver individual and group psychoeducation for consumers and carers regarding mental health and alcohol and drug conditions, treatment options, harm minimisation, relapse prevention, and health promotion strategies
Support medication monitoring and management of side effects, assisting clients to develop effective strategies for medication adherence and self-management
Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team and with external services, maintaining accurate clinical documentation, participating in clinical reviews and case conferences, completing mandatory outcome measures in line with MH-OAT requirements, and supporting seamless care pathways across services
About you
Degree in Occupational Therapy with current AHPRA registration, demonstrated clinical experience as a practising Occupational Therapist in a tertiary hospital or relevant health setting, and a current unrestricted NSW Class C Driver’s Licence
Experienced clinician with demonstrated ability to apply sound clinical reasoning and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team in an inpatient or community mental health setting.
Ability to work collaboratively with consumers within a recovery-oriented framework, including engagement with families and carers.
Demonstrated understanding of early intervention principles in the context of emerging mental health problems in young people.

About the Role

To fulfil the employment contract with SVHM ICU, students must be enrolled in the Graduate Certificate of Intensive Care Nursing with Deakin University (Burwood) for the full 1 year period.
Progression to Semester 2 and continuation of employment within the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is conditional upon the successful completion of all required academic and clinical components of Semester 1.
Post successful completion of the Postgraduate year, potential ongoing employment opportunities within the ICU will be discussed.
Classifications for this position will range from YP4-YP9 ($86,684 - $104,379 per annum).

About SVHM - Intensive Care Unit
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne (SVHM) is a 19 bed environment (funded to 15 ICU equivalent beds) caring for patients requiring critical care. It accommodates elective and emergency surgical and medical patients.
The ICU admits deteriorating patients from the ward environment, Operating Theatre, Emergency Department plus external admissions from other metropolitan and rural hospitals via Adult Retrieval Victoria (ARV).
Postgraduate nursing students’ clinical requirements for the Graduate Certificate of Intensive Care Nursing (Deakin) are completed at SVHM ICU. Students are supported in providing one-to-one care to patients with a range of different requirements including: advanced haemodynamic monitoring, management of vasoactive and inotropic drugs, temporary pacing, external ventricular drains / Codman’s, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), invasive mechanical ventilation, non-invasive ventilation (NIV), and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapies (CRRT).

About your role:
Pre Operative Nurse coordinates and delivers pre-operative care, ensuring patients are clinically prepared, informed and ready for surgery while supporting efficient theatre operations and a positive patient experience
Admitting patients on the day of their procedure.
Completing pre-operative assessments and health checks.
Confirming medical history, medications, allergies and fasting status.
Ensuring consent forms and documentation are complete.
Taking observations (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, etc.).

Providing information and reassurance to patients and families.
