About the RoleThe Department of Gastroenterology and Clinical Nutrition is advertising 4 ongoing vacant sessions to fulfil the role of permanent Consultant Gastroenterologists with expertise in paediatric liver disease & liver transplantation. These sessions are available from 5/4/2027 to appoint individuals up to a maximum of 0.4 EFT. These sessions will be linked to inpatient, outpatient duties and on-call responsibilities, depending on the number of sessions the successful applicants are appointed to. The Head of Department will negotiate the details of oncall duties and clinical sessions with the successful candidate.
How You Can Contribute- Help provide clinical care to paediatric patients with a full range of liver conditions, including complex tertiary level liver and intestinal transplantation
- Clinical care to paediatric patients with general gastroenterology disorders
- Contribute to the provision of inpatient and outpatient services (both on-campus and telehealth) and will be involved in the provision of an on-call service
- Collaborate with other services within and outside the RCH to develop a patient-centred, standardised and sustainable model of care
- Contribute to existing research in collaboration with the key campus partners of the University of Melbourne and the Murdoch Children's Research Institute, with opportunities to initiate new research
- Clinical management of the full range of outpatient and inpatient liver conditions, including liver and intestinal transplantation. Clinicalmanagement of the full range of outpatient general gastroenterology conditions
- Clinical management of all gastroenterology inpatients and consults while on inpatient ward service
- Provision of safe and efficacious diagnostic and interventional procedures
- Contributing to the development of models of clinical care for gastroenterological conditions to enhance the quality of that care whilst maximising efficient use of available resources
- Effective communication with other healthcare providers and consumers, including but not limited to referring paediatricians, family practitioners, junior and senior medical staff, nursing, paramedical, clerical staff, families and patients
- Administration and leadership roles in the department
Classification for this position will range from HN19-HN58, under Award 31 (pro rata for part-time, plus superannuation).
Your skills and experience- Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP or eligible for FRACP)
- Fellowship training in Paediatric Gastroenterology is mandatory
- Post graduate training and experience in paediatric liver and liver/intestinal transplantation
- Demonstrated capacity to work harmoniously and collaboratively within a team environment
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
- Specialist Medical Registration with AHPRA
- Postgraduate training and experience in paediatric gastroenterology, especially in paediatric liver/liver & intestinal transplantation
- Training in Paediatric Gastrointestinal Endoscopy approved by the Conjoint Committee
- Ability to effectively interact with colleagues, patients, and families, as well as build and maintain working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- A flexible attitude is crucial, especially with the need to balance competing and conflicting priorities
- Demonstration of efficient time management
- A research qualification e.g. PhD, MD or Masters in Medicine will be considered favourably (DESIRABLE)

About you
Ideal candidates for this role will have:
- Medical Practitioner with current AHPRA registration, a recognised medical degree (MBBS or equivalent), and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP).
- Significant experience in public and/or community mental health, including senior clinical leadership within multidisciplinary service environments.
- Demonstrated expertise in clinical governance, risk management, quality improvement, service development, and implementation of evidence-based mental health care.
