Department of General Surgery
Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position(s) in the Western Sydney Local Health District.The position will be primarily located at Westmead Hospital within the Department of General Surgery.
Successful applicants will function as a junior consultant in the selection surgical unit and function as the bridge between the junior surgical staff and senior surgical leadership. It is expected that the successful applicant will manage the day-to-day junior surgical staff rostering and well-being provision.
Applicants expecting to be awarded fellowship within 6 months are eligible to apply
The position will be for a period of twelve months for the 2027 Clinical Year.
Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
Essential Requirements
1.Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award/ Health Insurance Act 1997. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license (if applicable)
2.Sound clinical knowledge in General Surgery demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.
3.Administrative services for the Junior Surgical staff at Westmead Hospital and WSLHD.
Selection Criteria
1.Qualifications and credentials required for core scope of practice in the Surgical specialty.
2.Evidence of additional qualifications, skills and/or experience required for specific scope of practice for the specialty.
3.Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior MedicalPractitioner including:
•Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team.
•Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
•Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships.
•Maintaining and developing knowledge, skills and professional performance to the level required for contemporary practice.
•Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality.
4.Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system.
5.Demonstrated aptitude for clinical leadership which is evidenced by:
•Systems thinking and risk-taking aptitude.
•commitment to self -care and personal development.
•Capacity to maintain personal integrity, tolerate stress and demonstrate resilience.
•Commitment to building relationships, leading, and developing others.

Selection Criteria
To help us assess your suitability for the role, please tell us as much as you can about yourself in response to the questions below.
- Current Certificate III in Dental Assisting (or recognised equivalent), or current enrolment in the qualification, and demonstrated relevant experience in dental assisting.
- Willingness to travel across all SWSLHD clinics including Mobile Dental to provide relief is a requirement.
Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.

Located at Westmead Hospital, you'll join the University General Practice Department within Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). What you'll be doing
As a Dental Assistant Grade 2, you'll provide expert clinical and radiography support to clinicians and students, helping deliver safe, efficient and compassionate dental care.
- Provide high-quality chairside dental assistance, preparing equipment, instruments and materials, supporting procedures, maintaining moisture control and promoting patient comfort.
- Provide expert oversight of intra-oral radiography undertaken by student clinicians, including radiograph processing and radiation safety.
- Deliver high standards of infection prevention and control, including PPE, instrument reprocessing, sterilisation and clinical waste management.
- Maintain accurate patient records and quality data using NSW Health and Oral Health digital systems, while protecting patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Support a positive learning environment through student supervision, staff orientation, training, meetings and oral health promotion activities.

License: Radiography license with the NSW Environment Protection Authority
Qualification: Certificate III in Dental Assisting or recognised equivalent and Certificate IV in Dental Assisting (Dental Radiography)

What you'll be doing
WSLHD - SRMO - Emergency Medicine (Westmead)
The primary purpose of the SRMO in the Emergency Department is to provide clinical care, under appropriate supervision, to patients requiring emergency medical services in a complex clinical environment. This position will provide experience in a critical care environment and have responsibilities and opportunities for autonomous practice commensurate with the level of experience of the incumbent.
The following rotations are available to SRMO:
· Westmead Emergency
· The Children’s Hospital Westmead Emergency
· Westmead and Auburn anaesthetics
· Westmead ICU
· Other rotations may be negotiated depending on availability
Westmead ED is accredited for provisional & advance training with 16 hours/7 days emergency physician cover.
Our teaching program has multiple streams dedicated to different requirements including a weekly registrar teaching. There are also skills days throughout the year specific for provisional trainees and preparation in both the primary and fellowship exam.

Where you'll be working
Join the specialist Blood Transplant and Cell Therapy service at Westmead Hospital, supporting patients through the complex post-transplant phase and long-term follow-up. Working closely with the multidisciplinary team and the Day 0 to Day 100 Post-Transplant Nurse Practitioner, you will help deliver coordinated, evidence-based care across the patient journey.
Work within a highly specialised blood transplant and cell therapy service
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across WSLHD and NSW
Contribute to the advancement of specialist nursing practice
Support patients, families and carers through long-term follow-up
Engage in research, quality improvement and service development
What you'll be doing
As the Blood Transplant Post-Transplant Coordinator, you will provide advanced clinical expertise and autonomous care coordination for patients following blood transplant and cell therapy from Day 100 onwards, including long-term follow-up.
Coordinate complex clinical care across outpatient and inpatient settings
Provide expert consultancy and clinical leadership in post-transplant care
Lead education for patients, carers and healthcare professionals
Drive evidence-based practice, research and quality improvement initiatives
Contribute to service planning and the development of advanced nursing practice

Postgraduate nursing qualifications relevant to field or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the organisation
Current Registered Nurse with AHPRA List A

Minimum five (5) years full time equivalent post registration experience with at least three (3) years' experience in specialty field.
Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and review of policy, procedure and guidelines
Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills in a multidisciplinary context.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and develop/maintain professional relationships and networks across multiple disciplines.
Demonstrated ability and knowledge to utilise information technology effectively
